Lost a friend and co worker back in the early 1990's to a boating accident, you need to be careful and alert, no matter how much fun you are having.
-
LOL, fish in the net makes them easier to tolerate?
-
Looks a bit rolly out there for a toon?
-
Evidently there old ones and newer ones, you might want to ad which you are looking for? On some lures it makes a difference? Like the old Wiggle Wart lures from Storm?

Black bear encounter leads to sudden death
OhioFisherman replied to FishFishing's topic in General Discussion
The list does separate the bears by type. Even one from my area! " Brent Kandra, 24, male August 19, 2010 Captive Columbia Station, Ohio Kandra was a bear caretaker on property of Sam Mazzola that kept exotic pets. The bear was out of its cage for feeding. Prior to the attack, Sam Mazzola had his license to exhibit animals revoked, but was still allowed to keep the animals on his property.[21] He also accumulated dozens of dangerous, exotic animals despite past convictions and losing his license after animal rights activists complained he was making money by letting people wrestle bears. I remember one of my uncles with a picture of his car stuck in the bay of fundy during low tide, he was lucky to get it out in time!

Black bear encounter leads to sudden death

They are wild animals, unpredictable and some times dangerous! If a black bear is native to Ontario, doesn't that make it a Canadian black bear? -
Sadly it seems these happen every year, seemingly everywhere.

Tecumseh Reef still good for smallie?
OhioFisherman replied to GaraldT's topic in General Discussion
A dime? they were like 4.50 a dozen here, The price in some areas seems to have gone up? https://www.smithcreekfishfarm.com/index.php/bait/crayfish-for-bait.html -
LOL, mid summer trip was a family trip, September was the guy's trip! They were usually better able to deal with the weather.
-
I used to getup to Pointe Au Baril once or twice a tear for a lot of years, September weather was always a crap shoot, some times almost like summer and others like later in the fall. My choice for bigger fish would always be September.

Tecumseh Reef still good for smallie?
OhioFisherman replied to GaraldT's topic in General Discussion
Here in Ohio a lot of bait shops near the Erie Island area sold crawfish and what they called bass minnows in the spring as Smallmouth bait, the so called bass minnows were just hatchery raised Golden Shiners in the 3 - 5 inch range, I can't recall ever seeing leeches for sale here like in Ontario. Live bait gives you an edge at times, some days while fun fishing it saved a day or trip for me. I am not sure how much the actual type of live bait matters, smallies will take a worm, if you can get past all the other smaller fish that will get to them first. Them smallies in my avatar are just a couple of many caught in Lake Erie when I lived 1/2 mile from it. -
New to downrigging - 1 or 2 downriggers?
OhioFisherman replied to tdelam's topic in General Discussion
Never used one myself, one of my brothers was big into Salmon and Trout fishing on Lake Ontario and following the Walleye migration here on Lake Erie had two on his boat, both electric. -
dave, I never caught a catfish while fishing the open waters of Lake Erie, never targeted them out there either though. Places like Sandusky Bay and some of the rivers that empty into the lake are loaded with them though, good sized ones here too.
-
Often wondered about the direction of some of the fish stocking programs here, coho in Lake Erie, Striped Bass in some of our inland lakes that really can't compare in size to some of those southern state's lakes that have them. Blue cat and spotted bass in Lake Erie seemed like better and cheaper options to me?
-
If you have looked at the last couple of these articles? both had a good sized channel cat as a cover photo, and both were caught ( allegedly ) in a relatively near shore area of Lake Erie, gobies also make good cat food?
-
I seem to recall seeing pictures of Cormorants with some type ring around their necks to prevent them from swallowing the fish completely?
-
Looks like it may have been another good year for the Walleye and Perch spawn on Erie, it also sounds like the Emerald Shiners could use some good spawns? https://www.cleveland.com/sports/2019/08/calm-down-lake-erie-walleye-coming-home-for-labor-day-weekend-aug-30-fishing-report.html?fbclid=IwAR2Du05COTkBwx7IpFm-thnU7Mzey952MDPHzlCcSLRITgpPhY11uXggYbA

Yes Rizzo! I guess the cab of the pickup truck was buried in the branches of the pine tree, no one even knew some one was inside until the police came. Lost a lot of friends and co workers over the years to sudden medical conditions.

So I guess someone hit the mailbox on the blue house across the road and continued on hitting the pine tree in the front yard of the neighbor's across the road. Guy is dead and the guess is cardiac arrest, haven't seen anything on the news yet. Sad to see stuff like that happen!

? Is that a you-go, looks good to me!

No sorry s needed, depth is a relative term anyway, on Erie I was usually in 17 to 22 feet of water, and a lot of guys thought that was shallow.

Congrats David! That looks like the St. Lawrence River to me. Just curious, deep water fish? I watched last years elite series on the St. Lawrence and was kind of surprised to see a Carolina rigged lizard thrown in that for smallies.
