  1. Kind of wondered myself douG, seems like the theory has been in the works for a few years at least. Scientists didn`t think a meteor wiped out the dinosaurs at first? Solve some problems if it did?
  2. Just my opinion, you have to enjoy it, be willing to learn, develop the needed skills, and be aware, never pass up good luck. You can fish all day and get a couple hits or catch a limit in 5 minutes, got to land the ones you stick, in a tournament a dink keeper can move you to money. Fishing with people that know what they are doing is always a plus, not everyone approaches a situation the same way, the more ways you know can`t hurt.
  3. Solo, just to add o to your comments, Emerald shiners seem to be the primary food source here for the steelies. In the fall of the year the emerald shiners stack up along the breakwalls and other structure at the river mouths and also in the rivers themselves. Mid to late October seems a key time, and if you see the shiners, the steelies are usually right near by, you can see them rolling or busting the shiners. They may? also herd them against the rocks and piers to trap them? Seems like every one I have caught and chosen to eat and clean was full of them, but also some other young of other species, shad, perch, mostly emeralds though. Just my opinion that everything here in the lake eats them because they are so common, some schools of them I have seen had to number in the millions.
  4. Ever try to break a car window with a hammer? Although I have no clear recollection of the said incidents I believe so, again although my mother named my 3 brothers and I after Saints it was not our chosen profession. But never from the inside under water. Jack handles worked well for a lot of things, again never had the desire to use one under water.
  5. I have always used my livewell, I just glue some screening over the overflow to keep the minnows from swimming out. Just found that the livewell with the timer was the easiest way. Screening I used was plastic and it`s been on the boat for twenty years or so with no problems.
  6. Wouldn't be surprised if power windows are cheaper to manufacture than rollups nowadays LOL haven`t had one apart in a long time. mix in an electric motor, bigger alternator to power all the options, bigger battery, wiring, switches, connectors and 70 bucks or so an hour dealers labor charges once stuff starts breaking out of warranty? Like a drug, get people hooked and they "gotta have it " ? Then there is the tool to break the window in an emergency, 2 buck garage sale hammer is to complicated?
  7. http://venturebeat.com/2008/05/30/blacklig...-this-for-real/ http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2005.../energy.science A new source of cheap clean electric power? A call out to resident rocket scientists? A piece on CNN this morning about this. Quantum physics? Same as Quantum reels? I am just into Quarks and Quasars.
  8. We as a society, most have gone way beyond our reach? Brian I don`t disagree with that, but who set the example? Since 1980 most workers pay has been lucky to double? What could possibly make these CEO`s think their pay should go up by such a vast amount? It is the same for the Auto industry and most other businesses here. Connie I tend to disagree, better to hire the cops before the crime spree? Some one should have stepped in long before now, but political contributions can be blinding? I don`t have any answers, Washington seems to put out some lame ones. I don`t like the bailouts, the reasons given for them even less, and the concept of a CEO making more than the President of this country less than that. Never saw the need for a fancy car or boat, a roof over my families head that was paid for was Mission Accomplished! Only reason I won`t buy a stick shift now is cars don`t shift as well with out using the clutch as trucks, and my left leg has a mind of it`s own. Like anything different opinions, and I can`t and won`t say mine is right, just my view better more are living comfortably than the chosen few. I may have to much also? But it`s paid for and I never thought I was worth more than the guy working next to me, the cop or fireman, heck even the trash dude. Already told the wife when I croak no suit, burn my butt on some old pallets in the back field and have a pig roast and a couple kegs! I don`t need the beer either. At that point dry might be a good thing?
  9. We bailed out Wall Street to save the economy, but if you look at the figures in the link was it wise? And we can deny the Auto companies? Just my take is the only suits some people should wear are striped ones? http://oversight.house.gov/story.asp?ID=2011 Key words In 1980, CEOs were paid 40 times the average worker. Today, they are paid 600 times more. No way to tell what is right or wrong for the common citizens? Our politicians went along for this ride and it seems to be a long one. Projection here is another 8 million home foreclosures here in the next 4 years, and 40% of the people getting modified home loans will again be foreclosed on? We need to keep people working.
  10. How about having to show a legitimate need to buy a pickup truck or suv? Like towing a camper, boat, ect. Parking lot at work used to be full of them and the only thing most people hauled was their BFA! People bought them for safety? So they would survive a crash they might cause? eg 4500lbs of pickup or suv into a 2500lbs of car? If the thinking is they can make 6 to 9 thousand per copy does it make sense to build anything else if there is a demand? Got to remember these are good business men? They have to show the stock holders profits to get a raise? Keep their jobs? Or do they? Nationalize our health care, remove that burden of fully funded employer health care, establish a payroll tax of 2% of your hourly wage deducted from your pay and matched by the employer. Immediately deport any illegal alien that goes to the hospital with a non covered injury or illness instead of the taxpayers continuing to fund them. Lots of people here work under the table and have no insurance coverage, drives up the cost for everyone, including the companies that still provide full employer coverage. LOL I like Stren you like Trilene? Limited selection? People aren`t bright enough to realize it might be in their own best interests? I had a Chevy Astro van (wifes car) 10 mile drive to work, and a chevette (my ride) 28 mile drive to work but I am just cheap! Didn`t need to full size vehicles, didn`t need anything bigger to pull my boat or utility trailer. Need a fancy ride to park in the lot at work for 12 to 15 hours a day? All I need in a car is automatic transmission(now) power steering (now) power brakes and a AM/FM radio, instead they take a 10k car and put 8k worth of options on it, and call it a low end model? Non Union? I have trusted my employers to make good decisions about as much as I trust my politicians, any of them! The decisions may have been in their best interests but certainly not in mine. A lot more complicated, politics involved and things left to certain power bases with their own special interests. Hard to tell which is right, both sides may be to a certain extent but won`t be satisfied unless it is their way? Auto plants are a lot better than 30 years ago, but the Ford plant in Brookpark here used to have 12,000 employees and now less than 2,000, they got the hint? Over all the whole thing is smelly, from Wall Street to the Auto Companies, mostly driven by greed. LOL and the line for bail outs may get longer.
  11. LOL easy on the Chevettes there, I bought a 3 year old one from a private owner for 1200 bucks and drove it for 8 years. Nothing done to it but regular oil changes and tires, and a timing belt.
  12. Believe it or not all Auto sales are down and my understanding it`s world wide. I heard today auto sales in Spain are down 50%, even problems in China from an economic down turn. Imports stacking up in the ports in Long Beach California, foreign MFGS here extending the Christmas shutdown because of poor sales, one I believe to 7 weeks? Heck even Budweiser is laying off people, like 1200? People don`t have money for Beer? wings might be next? Dang! Idea is to stop this economic down turn from turning into a depression?
  13. Ya that was funny also Brian, the news also was showing him kissing Barbara Streisend (SP) neither likes each other I think, some kind of awards ceremony.
  14. LOL Brian, I can`t run to chase any one down or to get away so I try to laugh about everything. I have no idea what a bumble is, I may be a bumbler? Hmmm, take care of myself? That is getting tougher, LOL but I am trying!
  15. LOL Brian, my wife doesn`t want to let me out of the house, she seems to think I have a death wish when I try to walk. I keep telling her I`m Paul I fall? Hard to learn to bounce if you don`t practice? Winter any way, I don`t let my boat out in the snow? You still interested? I thought you figured I was crazy? Topic was Provinces in Peril, waiting to see what they come up with for tonight, after the news today of the Governor of Illinois trying to sell (allegedly) a senate seat. LOL can`t fish so I have to laugh at the news.
  16. Anyone catch it last night? After the IllNoise a couple states west of here we will not be out done!
  17. Mike I have used a lot of different brands, no real favorite but theses are good ones, http://www.allterraintackle.com/products/grassjig.html Available through Stamina Tackle and I have purchased products from them directly. Justin Hoffman seems into this type of fishing a lot and probably is a better source for what is available up there if you chose to purchase locally. The BPS jigs are ok too. Trailers are mostly a matter of personal preference and confidence, I have used pork frogs, plastic frogs, pork grubs, plastic grubs, pork crawfish, plastic crawfish. The list could go on, get some you feel confident in and catch fish on. Colors? Hard to beat black and blue, basic black, brown and orange or brown and chartruse, watermelon, pumpkin. I have also used white, with a white trailer, baitfish scattering thru the weeds. Jigs catch fish, don`t leave home with out them! Caught bass in 6 inches of water on them and 20+ feet. Pointy nose better for weeds in my opinion, flatter for rocky bottoms, eg football style. You can swim them thru lighter cover also. Jigs tend to catch bigger fish.
  18. Also thought the pictures were interesting. A reminder that there are places in most cities the visitor and convention bureaus would rather you didn`t see? Monuments to excess that went up faster than they will ever come down? The rise and fall of the Auto empire?
  19. Also agree with the L/M, not with the Bluegill though, not a very good pic of it though. Sort of unusual most I have seen, even pike tried swallowing it tail first. Fins open and it gets stuck. Soft ray fish chubs shiners and such are better bait. Fish have adapted to them and know there are no issues eating them.
  20. LOL Lew! Might find a nice pole at the mall Rich?
  21. Trees make it easier but just hanging the feeder from a hook or treated 4x4 post in the ground will also work. Like mentioned it takes a little time for them to find the food stop, once they do they will become used to it. LOL I have 4 feeders in my back yard along a row of pine trees, all hold between 2 and 3 liters of bird seed, they can empty them in a day. Pretty normal for me to go thru 50 pounds of bird food a month. TSC sells it cheap in 40 and 50 pound bags. Make sure you have them high enough of the ground 4 feet or more, they can become cat feeders. Nice thing about trees nearby like pine the birds can go on them the cats have some trouble getting to them. TG gave me a hint last year also plant some sun flowers, different for me though country with over 4 acres of land plenty of room to do stuff like that where it`s out of the way. I let about 1 1/2 acres of my back yard return to a more natural state starting about 8 years or so ago. Just saw no need to cut over 4 acres of grass and I like to see the animals. I cut a path 20-30 feet around the edge but the center is animal zone. Didn`t plant anything, but stuff started growing on it`s own. Blackberries, wild strawberries, bushes of some kind and starting to get some small trees in it now. All kinds of small animal paths entering the field a safe place for them as I don`t hunt, just enjoy watching them. Rabbits, Pheasants, Deer bed in the field at night, just flat land that was a farmers field. LOL maybe I am reducing urban sprawl?
  22. Terry, don`t quote me on this but diesel is a denser fuel, I think they can get more gasoline out of a barrel of oil that diesel fuel. Home heating oil is closer to diesel fuel than gasoline, one of the reasons a lot of owners-operators here used to live in the country where they used home heating oil to heat their homes. Some found it`s way into the fuel tanks of the truck to lose the 40+cents a gallon highway use tax. None in home heating oil. They do check, diesel has a dye in it, home heating oil doesn`t, they don`t check often though. They also like to see receipts to match amounts of fuel purchased to amount of miles driven. Anything way out of line can raise a red flag. Truck scale stations along the highways do more than just weigh the trucks to ensure legal limits are observed. They are a convenient place for enforcement officers to examine loads, check logs, inspect the safety of the vehicle.
  23. Just watching some of the experts talking about the quoted wages for the auto company employees on TV yesterday, there is a certain amount of agreement they are misleading. The retirement pay and medical costs of all the retired Auto workers are included in those figures. There was a bit of a discussion of the pension cost now hitting them, because congress here didn`t require them to properly fund their pension plans. Also the fact that we don`t have them same type of medical coverage as Canada. The minimum wage in Brazil is around 250 bucks a month. The auto workers there make between 500-900 dollars a month and get around 900 hours training from the company, so some education is needed. Could you live on 500-900 a month? You know where the profits wind up. Just gets to the question if you will be happy seeing your jobs out sourced by your politicians until your wages reach the level of some of the 3rd world nations? Their governments seemed to have failed them. Congress here is fond of passing legislation and not properly funding said measures, eg. social security, medicare, other pet projects move to the front of the line over time. Never owned a foreign car and never a lemon, only 2 new cars, pretty good with a wrench at one time so my cars were what I expected and fairly priced for what I got out of them. Politicians spin things, the root cause in their opinion is the housing crisis and loans made to people that couldn`t afford them, you have to consider, if you lose your job and can`t find another, can you keep your home? Like 2 million jobs will be lost here this year alone, and figures aren`t entirely accurate, actual number is higher, and the replacement jobs found by many pay much less, with less benefits, a downward spiral.
  24. Wild I am in the States, estimates here for illegal aliens are between 12 and 20 million, no one knows for sure. Talk about secure borders? A lot of them are employed by employers that don`t pay social security or taxes, pay them cash at the end of the day or week. They can`t complain or it`s no work. A lot of not so funny things go on here.
  25. Like 22,000 jobs cuts announced yesterday alone, and more expected. 6.7 percent unemployment rate is not an accurate figure, just includes people out looking for work, not people that have given up or those under employed. Actual figures estimated to be near 13 percent and increasing, not a time to lose a couple million Auto related jobs when jobs losses are predicted to be over a million next year without Auto jobs losses. Exporting jobs isn`t quite the deal it was sold to be? This is starting to affect every thing here, they are fishing for a way to stop it and need to catch a bright idea. Washington though, they are the ones that let it slip through there fingers.
