  1. I would try to remember that their claims dept. is probably run by a legal team working for them. What they consider a fair and equitable settlement probably doesn`t have the injured parties best interests in mind. They aren`t working for the injured party.
  2. Stayed at Rock Pine many times myself, but it has been 20+ years ago. You won`t find a shortage of shallow, sheltered areas for the pike to spawn in, although I never planned a trip there before the opening day of bass season. Can`t really give you much help on locations for this time of year. My thoughts though would be to look at the sheltered areas off of the deeper water channels. The area around Brignall`s banks, the Winoa channel and even the Christopher channel have areas that have weeds, lilies, reeds and a pretty well defined deeper channel. The end of the Christopher where it meet the bay was tricky (rocks). Rocks were all over the whole area though, and I have no idea of the water levels or how early in the year they get markers on them. Some where just marked with white jugs back in my times there. By June the whole area had weeds all over, not sure about picking a starting point for pike this early in the year as I have no idea on the weed growth. Dad was more into walleye fishing and would go there for the opener, he had mixed results though, mostly because he was self limiting in his method of fishing for them. If he couldn`t get them in his chosen areas dragging a worm harness it was his opinion they couldn`t be caught. Try up the Shawanaga river past the narrows, near shore 6-8 feet of water, drag a floating Rapala, silver with a black back, perch finish, a jig and grub. It is a spawning area and has deep water, more like a lake past the narrows to the falls. Actually dad got his biggest pike around 46 inches near the falls in May. He was fishing with a perch for bait under a bobber, no idea if it is still legal to use perch for bait there now, but the bait store on Hwy 69 sold a good selection of minnow sucker and leeches. I fished in the river with my ex wife and caught walleye on large chubs in July and August, it is a fairly big area, with deep water, just my thought that it holds a resident population of walleye.
  3. Mike, there are some nice bass here too, but I very rarely use or see others using worms over 8 inches. I had a friend that worked for Berkley and would send me just about anything I wanted, just never saw a need to go that big. You might find the evening - night bite on some lakes is a lot better than others. If the lake you are fishing has a good evening bite a 6-8 inch worm is probably big enough. They are moving from deeper water to shore to feed and it`s all about opportunity not size. Usually if I wanted to eliminate smaller fish I will just switch to a lure with a bigger profile, like a lizard, same deal though 6-8 inch. Hooks? like comparing Chevy`s to Cadillac`s, my choice was Mustad Ultra Wide Gaps. Never used the Trokar`s, a buck and a half or two bucks a piece? I wouldn`t have been in a hurry to! marketing, I don`t fall for it often and never had any one handing me free hooks. Any hooks I might own over 5/0 would be on a muskie or pike lure, not many bass around here 10+ pounds and it wouldn`t be a concern with a 5/0 hook. I like banks with an edge, it`s nice to have some deep water around, not that it is always needed but it can be a plus, especially on lakes that get beat up with boat traffic. Shoreline features that may extend into the water, cuts, points, humps can also help, a stream entering may also. Evening and night usually found me in deeper water pitching to shore or along the edge of the weedline. A flipping stick or 7 foot rod, 17 pound test stren original. Not really into big lead with out a good reason, punching through weeds, wind or current. Lower light conditions in the evening and night, not particularly worried about fish seeing the line or getting a good look at a soft plastic worm or lizard falling through the water column. A real worm or lizard rarely takes a fast dive, they just sort of slowly sink. Remember opportunity feeders, the size of the food usually isn`t much of a factor, it`s getting it in front of their face. They can easily find a 1/8 ounce jig and pig, jig and plastic or 4 inch worm in the dark, whether you are swimming it slowly or dragging it even slower.
  4. http://lurepartsonline.com/cart.php?m=product_list&c=1968 I have used these in the past, they have a good strong hook in them. Limited color selection though. Black works with everything?

  6. <---- filled up a couple days before Christmas using my grocery store perks card for like 2.39 a gallon. I think it is around 3.89 a gallon here now, but I still have 3/4ths of a tank left from the Christmas fill up. I guess being disabled has one advantage?
  7. I will have to look Phil, as I recall the molds called for a size 6 hook? I opened things up to take a 1-1/0 on the drill press with an end cutter. As I recall I have 1/16th and 1/8th. Another consideration, a lot of fishing pressure on the lakes here, some times throwing what everyone else is just isn`t a good plan? If you are the 50th guy to pitch a jig and pig to a dock or stump in a couple of hours the fish might just not show an interest.
  8. Looks like a shiner to me, and my live bait of choice for everything big enough to eat them. If I found a school of them up north on vacation? I would stop and fish for them, emergency bait for when lures weren`t getting the job done.
  9. console!
  10. I fished for L/M and S/M, I probably still have about 800 tubes around here, but probably only a couple dozen over 4 inch. If the bite was tough but I felt the area was holding fish? Bust out the spinning rod and work it with 2 inch crappie tubes. Bass aren`t always aggressively feeding, sometimes they will take a snack. I did make my own tube jigheads and altered molds for crappie tube jigheads to take a larger stronger hook.
  11. No worries Phil, a glance once a year or so will do, I don`t move fast enough to get out of visual range. Besides one of us has to keep the sheephead population down?
  12. Home land security, my home and my land.
  13. That brings back memories, when my kids were young my neighbors on one side also had young kids. Every spring they would go out and buy 50 chicks and raise them for food, it only took like 6-8 weeks for them to be eating size? All the kids had a strange fascination with slaughter day. My kids would be up at dawn to attend the "event". Maybe it was because of the chicken dinner after it? Talk about smell? They had the chickens, goats, sheep, horses, dogs and cats, all on only 4 acres of land. They would dump the manure-waste from all of them on one pile in their yard and roto-till it into the ground, for like a week after being outside could gag you. My first ex got my dad six baby geese one Easter as a joke, they also grow very fast. He couldn`t walk around the yard with out his herd following him, but they made good watch dogs. They would kick up a fuss any time some one that didn`t live there came over. Kids have a lot of fun with animals.
  14. Here is a link so you can sort of compare pricing http://boats.oodle.com/1991+-astro/ Question? the boat has a trailer? A 150hp motor should easily get you 50mph set up properly. If you think about it, it`s sort of hard to get fish to bite at 50 mph? 50 mph is got to get you around nicely on most bodies of water, you may be at a disadvantage if you plan on tournament fishing all the time, but I was competitive running a 35 hp motor here, on an aluminum boat though.
  15. Pictures of them record size fish sort of shoots the old adage " a picture is worth a thousand words " dead in the azz. A picture now seems to start a million questions. I was always able to find better things to do with my time than worry about people believing my fish stories! Maybe they will require the fish to produce a birth certificate?
  16. I have one, but it is like 10+ years old, never had an issue with it. Sort of a unique rod, for a limited time they made a flipping stick with a spinning rod eyes and handle which is what I have. Falcon Lowriders have been popular in this area for a long time.
  17. Thanks ah, daughter #2 telling me what daughter #1 is telling her, and she is a blonde. For some reason when I tried to google map it everything came up in Chinese. I think I mentioned, my son in law designs prefab building sections, for homes and commercial building. From what I understand China is spending huge amounts of money on their infrastructure, and I would think that prefabricated sections would speed up the building process for either. A bigger city with labor available, access to materials and transportation also makes sense. Some concern over schools? do they go to school 7 days a week there? If so I would imagine more advanced at an earlier age as far as grade placement?
  18. Ok the name of the city is Hubei, and it`s in the province of Wuhan? Not sure if it is called a province though.
  19. ah, I am going to have to have her email me the name of the city, I don`t want to risk trying to say it or spell it. Heck I get culture shock anytime I travel south of Ohio, but the people have been nice. My son in law just came back from South Africa just before Christmas, but he was only there for about 5-6 weeks and didn`t take the wife and kids. The biggest problem for them will be the time frame, they have to leave early in May, it doesn`t give them much time to figure out what to do with their home and cars for a year.
  20. LOL, I wish Bill Dance or KVD had competed in our local events... not! they were hard enough as is.
  21. Thanks bassfighter, I collected old fishing reels for a time, it seemed unusual to me that the Japanese were not afraid to send cash for their purchases. It wasn`t unusual for me to open an envelope and find 300-500 cash in it. Not something I would have done here, but I never had an issue with any of my dealings with the Japanese. Never did any with the Chinese. Just my view to my kids? go for it! I passed on a lot of adventures when I was young due to work limits and family limits. If they have the opportunity to do it together? go!
  22. Have a great b-day Pete!
  23. Kids that work have less free time to get into trouble? and that buck fifty a day (1.50 ?) teaches them finances? Look at what it has taught us? Americans and Canadians will pay top dollar for tackle made by people who work for less a day than we would work for per hour? Me leave the country? maybe to head north.
  24. My daughter told me the name of the city, but I have no idea if she pronounced it right, or how it is spelled. If they have schools for English speaking kids? it must be a pretty good sized city or town? No mention was made if the company has set up their own facility there to teach the kids. Just my understanding that the son in law is showing the people there how to do stuff and train them to trouble shoot. The way the population over there is, prefab housing or buildings may be a quick fix for them? I am sure it will be an adjustment, but getting paid to learn can`t be all bad? Chinese translators may become in big demand here? My daughter works in the banking industry, so it probably would be a plus for her also? Nice to be able to tell them the check is in the mail in Chinese just in case they start calling in our debt?
