1. I used to catch my own bait a lot of the time, obviously a size 12-16 hook with the barb flattened to prevent damage to them is going to work better than trying to catch minnows or chubs with a size 2 hook? For bass, walleye and such I have never seen a need to go smaller than size 1, and the amount of cover in an area can dictate whether I used light wire or heavy wire hooks.
2. Chicago style supreme add anchovies, I usually release my fish.
3. Here in the states I have been stopped for having a license plate light out, although not recently, no ticket though. The reality of the situation is this, traffic stops result in the apprehension of people for other criminal activities. Our local police reports confirm this, people stopped for minor traffic offenses and found to be drug mules, drunk, carrying concealed weapons with out permits, people in possession of stolen property. Granted in your case it seems extreme, but consider how many excuses a police officer hears? Heck I got stopped returning from a fishing trip with Deg, it was my own fault and I admitted it, and received just a warning.
4. I had a block heater on my Chevette and my first Astro van, I kept both parked outside, it was nice to have almost instant heat. The tractors at work all had them, diesels can be a challenge at times to start when the temps get real low. You could almost always tell the guys to lazy to plug their`s in, they were always running to the shop for help starting their tractors. On my cars I would plug them in when I got home from work, no timer, I figured the cost of the electricity was balanced out by the cost of fuel waiting for the windows to defrost.
5. I used to fish the western basin of Lake Erie with my dad and brother for walleye, Hot n Tots and Wiggle Warts were all we used. 8-10# with just a snap, the metal bills on the Hot n Tots could break loose from the plastic and water would get in the lure killing the action. The old red label wiggle warts turned into a hot bass lure for me.
6. Well I always enjoyed Findlay Lake and Chautauqua.
7. Billy you should move here, bring your states water and we will keep our taxes.

10. According to recent reports oil is one of our largest exports, that hasn`t seemed to help stabilize the prices here? Our business community is just concerned about exporting to people willing to pay more. Sort of the same concerns as the mega quarry up there? The Ogallala aquifer runs under where they want to run the pipeline. The mid west states here have a tendency to have prolonged droughts, so any damage to their water supply could be devastating.
11. Thanks for that link jat, it makes the discussion a bit easier to understand. I calls to mind a similar incident years ago in Florida, a sneaky American company bought up a bunch of farmland under different names, and created Disney World. If you have ever been down to that area you can imagine the traffic nightmare that created. I am sure though ( ) if Disney had put an ad or been upfront about their intentions when acquiring the land the asking price would have remained the same? No I still don`t have answers, it`s your country you make the call. When I had my home built I could go to the quarry and get limestone for 4.50 a ton, to buy it and have it delivered at the time was 11 bucks a ton. If the province needs it for roads, if you need it for home construction, it`s still going to cost you. Maybe birth control is the answer?
12. So do jobs? Note, I never said it was a good idea, when only one side presents their side of the story how will the debate go? I believe we have a Canadian company repairing the Cumberland dam here in the states, I don`t whine about that.
13. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpHxCG5owWk?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"> There is info on youtube about it, I don`t know how recent it is. There area quarries here in Ohio, most are old and smaller. Limestone, sandstone, and sand. Most have turned in ponds, perhaps by accident? I would guess it can get expensive pumping water out of a hole in the ground you are working in? All the ones I have seen here, again older and no longer producing have fish in them. Access is a problem because here they usually have a very long drop to the water, deep water, and it raises liability issues in case of accidents. The farmers here complained about them also, it takes away farmland that they might be interested in getting at a cheap price, so they put their spin on them. They don`t seem to have an issue though when they reach an older age and stop farming and sell their farm land to a developer for a huge profit. Sort of the same principal as the old strip mining pits in southern Ohio that now have been turned into a nature and wild life area once the mining was done? The area was reclaimed, trees and such planted, pits stocked with fish. If the province turned it into a park?
14. Hello, and yes you can get a concealed carry permit. Sadly in some parts of Cleveland I would deem it as a necessity. Since you made it back to Ontario alive? You didn`t get the full tour. One of the reasons I live 35 miles away and rarely go there, I lived there until my 23 birthday, that was enough fun for me.
15. I bought a semi automatic pistol, 3 magazines, and 350 rounds of ammo a couple of months ago. It took about 15 minutes in the sporting goods store, background check and some paper work and I was out the door. The US had record gun sales over the Christmas holidays. I can legally shoot any legal weapon in my back yard.
16. Consider the waters you intend to use it on, some boats are well suited to inland waters, but aren`t the best for a great lakes boat. Others can be a viable compromise in good weather on the great lakes. Always have enough horsepower to make a speedy retreat to safe harbor. Crestliner, Lund, Almacraft make decent boats, I personally wouldn`t own a tracker, just too many friends that had issues with them. No idea on the Canadian models.
17. Not sure how your laws work up there Gerritt but years ago I was involved in a minor accident here with the truck at work and was called to give a deposition, under oath. The lady tried to pass me on the inside as I was turning a corner in a semi, I was doing a couple of miles an hour, and she was claiming permanent injury. All I did was put a slight dent in her fender where it met the bumper and pulled the plastic cover off the bumper. I didn`t know that I had even hit anything until she came running up to my window at the next traffic light. My companies insurance company provided a lawyer, she was there with her lawyer, and a moderator. I gave an honest account of the accident, her lawyer kept trying to get me to change my story or trap me, then complained and kept asking if I had been coached. I never heard from them again.
18. Just my observations, I also fished mostly for bass. The steelhead I have caught have been on bass tackle, it can be done. Is it the best equipment for the job? probably not, especially in a stream or river setting. Since I don`t or didn`t make a practice of fishing for steelhead or salmon? I can`t picture the need for me to buy a center pin reel.

20. We have been increasing our yearly rainfall record, it seems almost daily, for almost two months, but better that than snow.
21. The was a bar in Parma Ohio in the 70`s, Baron`s, a shot or a mug of beer for 25 cents. I probably spent too much time in there.
22. They were incidental catches for me while fishing for bass in Lake Erie and it`s tribs. Usually started catching them around mid October here around the river mouths. It has been the wettest year on record here, I can`t picture the rivers that I fished being clear.
23. I am disabled so my fishing has been limited the last 7 years, plus I learned long ago the rod and reel usually have little to do with your ability to find and catch fish. I have reels dating from the 70`s to more modern Citica`s and Older Green Curado`s. Same with rods, I never shopped by name, I shopped by feel or need. I have Diawa rods, Shimano, Abu Garcia, Berkley, Falcon, Ugly Sticks, just tools to me, use the right one for the job? Spinning, Casting, Closed face, it didn`t matter much to me, and rod action, and feel made more of a difference than name brand or price. I have seen people blow up a 150-200 dollar rod on a hookset, I don`t need to be bothered with that. To me there is a limit to what quality can buy you, time on the water and learning from it is money well spent.
