  1. Thank you for all your responses. I have more then enough leads and great info. I should be able to find what I need.
  2. An unseen pike did that at Kesagami...about 2/3rds the way through 80 pound test. I bought 120 pound test after that trip.
  3. Would anyone know of a good fly fishing store within an hour or two, that would stock flies for flats fishing?
  4. Walleye are prized by the locals...and get a fair bit of fishing pressure. I've fished the upper Mattawa near lake Champlain Provincial park. There are walleye there but they are not an easy catch. I fished underneath the dam by the paper mill about two years ago and got to chatting to a local. He complained how there used to be lots of Walleye in the river. That part of the river is narrow. My bet would be bigger bodies of water. If it were me, I ask my dad for local contacts, perhaps after a call or two you may even get an invitation. I'm sure there are walleye there and in some places good numbers, but I am also sure that you are going to have a hard time finding them by yourself.
  5. There should be some lake trout in some of the lakes in that area. The folks in the local stores don't mind chatting about fishing conditions and locations. Try the hardware store right on the highway before you get to town.
  6. If you want to hook into a freight train this is your type of fishing. Lift weights...do endurance training...I think my pinched nerve started on my last trip to the Fraser.
  7. http://www.mccollumsresort.com/resort.htm It might be the only place on that huge lake where you can rent cabins or a room. There was another place close by but I believe that business is closed. They wanted to rent only by the week but I think they would be accommodating late August when there is little business and most families are getting ready for school. They have a dock and water access to the main lake. Nice people, clean cabins. Drew, that is HUGE water...I thought you were a river rat.
  8. What a fine example of erudition on how to release fish...perfectly salty and peppered.
  9. I am never going deep sea fishing...keep me on shore with Cuda and cute fish.
  10. Just an observation...is it just me or does the baby get less attention in the pics once the beers come out?
  11. Is there a time of year you don't fish?
  12. My favorite pics of 2007 are all pics that I took and not of me. Two are of Moosebunk and one of my wife. That son of a gun was damn determined to lift this sturgeon and he held it up for what seemed like five minutes. Lovely pic. Love this pic of the Bunkster it's simply just a great photo. This is the type of place where it's not the most important thing if you do that well. The scenery made your heart ache. My wife's first big fish. She is talking baby talk to the pike..."yous are such a big boy".
  13. Oh I know how lucky we were. I was badly hungover that day after taking in Float's impromptu midnight fishing clinic with the Loblaw's boys. Alcohol was flowing freely and up there free alcohol was something to take note of. The next morning my head was pounding at it was 7 degrees with driving wind. We did catch one nice pike but we had decided to head back early that day because basically I was pooched and the weather was so crumby. Also the lodge never removed my tacklebox from the plane and we were fishing with crap lures. We head out into the wind and the motor conks...then we get pushed to shore and rocked by the waves. It looked very very grim. My wife had never gone fishing anywhere. This was our first day and it wasn't a good start. They wouldn't have sent anyone looking for us until after 8pm so if we were lucky the rescue would have been around 10pm or later. You can make out Ramble-on in the photo. In the pic you can see how pleased my wife was to get rescued. Dinner time was approaching after all and it was darn cold and wet out there. She laughed when she saw your post. The rescue was a trip maker for us...the lost first day due to weather...the lost tacklebox....the zonked motor...all negatives and then the great rescue. We are indebted to you!
  14. You were our saviour at Kesagami!! For that we are grateful!!

  15. Right now it's not to bad at all. I haven't experienced tingling and it really only bothers me at night when I try to find a position that my left arm is comfortable in. I'm sure it will get worse again as work ramps up and I'm back into the daily grind. Thanks for all of the input and links provided. It's good to hear your collective experiences and hear of therapies I had never even known about before. Really, I had only talked to one person before who described what I had. It's all food for thought. I'll make that appointment with the Dr. as planned and see what he believes it to be and what he recommends.
  16. That one made me laugh...it's hard to see your Dr. in my town. The best way for me to see him was to make an appointment at 9am the Wednesday before Christmas so I could line up at the walk in clinic that Saturday. Never had time then and should have taken the appointment for the 4th. Seems like the problem I have is one that can't be cured by a magic bullet so I am doubting a Dr. will do anything immediately for me but get me on better medication. If I'm lucky I will get 15 minutes time with him for what looks to be a chronic problem. In talking to people, this tends to also be a longer term thing so what better group of people to quiz then fishermen? They do the physical movements that I see as most critical for living, I'm guessing a number of them are in my age bracket, and they display great pragmatic and information gathering skills in spades! Hate to say it but I find it also best to go into the Dr. office with a problem like this knowing what you want to do, and then when the issue has been determined, suggest a specific specialist. I know this may sound like an assbackwards approach. Yet I think I've gotten the best info I will get when I talked to someone who had this problem, and he described the weaker small fingers and what worked best for him. ...and I bought a new muskie rod and reel for Christmas
  17. It's not and neither do I do much physical work day to day...so I don't see this as a repetitive injury type thing.
  18. I've had a pinched nerve for a while now...from up in my left armpit, shoulder, down the arm and into the two small fingers. I don't have bad pain....don't notice it much until I try to do something or sleep on that side. More activity makes it worse. I'm thinking of chirotherapy. Thoughts...experiences?
  19. Then there is the sinking US dollar which most pundits see falling even further over time. What percentage of your business is American tourists? I haven't overnighted in the states for many years...since the loonie sunk, it just didn't seem economical. What if American's get that mindset with the loonie?
  20. I saw a new Hummingbird unit that gave you a 3-d impression of the bottom of the lake. It looked interesting. Anyone have one of these units?
  21. What would you like to know? The lake is in the flat Hudson bay lowland. That makes for some unusual lake and river formations. Lotsa pike lotsa walleye. The water is stained a golden orange colour.
  22. Will you have time on a Cruise? Forget ultralight...they will bend out normal Rapella hooks. Silver lures work, you will need a leader, and burn your lures. Poppers also work.
  23. Using a gift certificate and cash, I bought a rarely used trade in combo for $220 no tax from my local fishing store. The combo was a Quantum PT 40 Spinning Reel, Compre® Spinning Rod-7ft medium heavy action, with a full reel of premium braided line. I pike fish, fish in the south for Cuda, and have given muskie fishing a go. I imagine a 8 ft heavy action rod will give you more control with large muskie, these are things I'll be learning about in the future hopefully What do you think of that combo at that price?
