  3. Mum and I were spending Christmas 1972 in Peterborough, my first experience of snowmobiles and a real winter.....
  4. On Christmas Day people of similar class would exchange gifts to celebrate, but on Boxing or St Stephens Day, those of the higher classes gave gifts to the lower classes. Boxing Day is so called because goods given to the less fortunate were placed into boxes for easier transportation. I'm expecting the mother-in-law to give me mine tomorrow
  5. Guy driving down the highway at 100 and gets overtaken by a three-legged chicken so he speeds up to 120 but the chicken goes even faster. The guy just gets up to the chickens speed when the chicken puts out his right wing and goes down the off ramp, the guy follows it for some time and eventually they are on a country road. In the distance is a farm, just then the chicken puts his left wing out and turns into the farm the guy follows him in through the gate. As he stops his car the farmer comes out and asks him what he wants, the guy explains what had happened and the farmer says, " its simple, as there is just the wife and I and our one son we bred the three-legged chicken so that we don't have to slaughter two to get a leg each". "Now I understand" said the guy "it makes good sense, but what do they taste like?" the farmer replies " how the hell should I know we've never managed to catch one!"
  6. Favourite Genre:- Folk Favourite Band(s):- Altan, Battlefield Band, Clannad, Chieftains, Flook, Patrick Street................ not forgetting those fine Canadians, The Rankins. Got fed up with the popular music scene when it became "over" electronic and traditional instruments along with the ability to play them was lost! Known by my workmates as "squeeky door music" Mick. My Music
  7. Blue Bird B&B There'll be blue birds over The white cliffs of Dover, Tomorrow, just you wait and see. There'll be love and laughter And peace ever after Tomorrow, when the world is free. The shepherd will tend his sheep, The valley will bloom again And Jimmy will go to sleep, In his own little room again. There'll be blue birds over The white cliffs of Dover, Tomorrow, just you wait and see. Nautifish, you can see I'm just a sentimental Brit! Mick
  8. Thank you for the superb report Moosebunk, its always a treat to read your latest news and see your wonderful pictures. Sadly we get to Canada all too often and certainly not to your area, but the scenery pictures take my mind off living in the overcrowded S.E. of England. Great stuff, Mick

  11. Not sure on the sizes but I have seen some good size Carp in the Ontonabee around Peterborough, they seem to be widespread along the river, perhaps someone with more experience in the area would be able to help. Weight apart I'm sure they would give you a good run for your money, especially with a bit of water current to help things along. Tight lines, Mick

  15. Only a couple of hours here before Santa puts an appearance, a chance to wish all OFNers happy holidays and a healthy 2007. The picture was taken just now, the residents collect from their visitors and all the proceeds go to the Eastbourne lifeboat crew. RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institute) lifeboats are crewed by volunteers who turn out at a moments notice in all sorts of weather, lets hope their Christmas and all emergency services wherever they are is a quiet one. Best wishes to you and of your families from us all, Mick
