  1. filthy words u speak ice fishing is a last resort.dont get me wrong i love the hardwater but its very boring compared to open water.and the water will be open for a long time still.even when the lakes start to freeze there is still opportunity to catch chrome on the tribs.or fish the hotpipe in porthope open water all year.
  2. welcome to the board.
  3. nice report.but those first few pics reminded me of a crazy mushroom trip i was on.wait maybe im having a flashback they were blurry right?
  4. looks like u had a good season nice fish
  5. i only use live bait for tip ups while ice fishing it provides the action while i keep my hands warm.after ice fishing its artificial all the way i think in most cases artificial will out perform live bait.i do use roe for trout and salmon but technically its not living.
  6. dont waste your time on the tribs till the bows are in.most salmon caught upstream are lined or flossed.the very odd one will hit out of agression but its way to slow and tedious work.cast hardware such spoons ,rapala j13,rattle traps.or get a honkin piece of skien and fish it under a float.use these methods at river mouths and piers.landed 5 on skien and one on a spoon earlier today not to mention numerous takedowns.u dont need fancy gear like center pin or 20ft rod i use a one piece7ft medium heavy spin outfit 14lb main 10lb floro lead and a #1 owner hook.skip the floro if your casting hardware
  7. crap i say just crap basspro makes me angry they dont carry half the stuff posted on the web page and the markup in canada is outrageous.this said they are still cheaper than most local tackle shops.

  15. im not a fan of commercial cures.for skien fishing butterfly the skien lay it on newspaper cover the top with newspaper and let it air dry for about a day leave it somewhere cool like the basement or garage or fridge.next fill a strong ziplock with borax and drop the skien in now shake the hell out of it.cut each skien into day size slabs i usually get 6 out of 2 skiens.put them into thier own ziplocks add more borax and freeze.take a bag with u and cut chunks off the slab as u need it fish it under a fixed or slip float.another simple cure for roe bags fishing.take some sea salt or kosher salt make a saturated solution with water.drop the skien in let it stand for about 4-5 mins do not let it sit to long or the roe dries out.remove skien shake of excess water.scrape the skien with a plastic spoon take loose eggs and put in a strainer let stand for several mins to remove more water.place in sandwich bags twist to remove air, then place those bags into good ziplocks.put ziplocks into a paper bag and freeze.
