  1. Rotenone was used to rid Simcoe of Round Gobies...how'd that work out anyway?
  2. Nice find on the net You should have seen the looks I was getting when I kept hooking up from the guys fishing just upstream of that spot It was dead for them all along that stretch, guys on both sides. I was impressed by their patience...they stayed for hours with no hookups.
  3. Was looking at the Islander as well, I don't think you'll find many negative reviews of the IS... I currently use an Okuma Aventa...and it's not as refined of a reel as I'd like (ok it's the crumbiest cheap reel out there lol) but the price was right and it works! Just remember, the reel is just a tool, it's your noggin that will lead to catching fish Tony
  4. Happy anniversary! Wow 3 years since the big upgrade...hopefully with the new tools we'll see the site come alive with even more pictures and fishing related goodness. Good or bad we can all be glad that OFC is here to stay Good job everyone who keeps the site alive and moderated Tony
  5. This is great news...greater protection for populations of Walleye and Muskie and increased angling opportunities for Pike and panfish through the ice. Well done Ron et al who had a large part in the consultation process for Zone 17 Tony
  6. Looks like a great time guys, you put some fish in the boat and by the looks of it got lots of rest hehe Oh! some great looking eye's there too Tony
  7. Glad to see all of the pictures come together from your roadtrip Mike! It was a treat fishing with you and Drew and I hope to do it again in the future. I ended up hooking into 9 fish at that spot you told me about...but only after I stopped fishing the main drift and headed to the woods...I clambered through a pile of wood and shrubs to the other side of where that cliff ends standing in a CRAZY spot with trees above, in front, and behind me...tight flop casts were all that I could manage and I lost a lot of fish in the sticks! I did manage a couple to the bank, this one fought like a champ and thanks to the jumps I muscled her away from the timber. Here's a couple more shots from the day that were neat... Take care, Tony
  8. Definately interesting to see how these motors turn out, from Yamaha though you'd have to think they'll be pretty nice. I am loyal to my trusty Verado...not even a tingling of upgrade thought going through my head
  9. Those are some great looking smallies...pretty nice weather for Nov...glad to see you're taking full advantage
  10. My fingers are crossed
  11. The CRAA runs an annual steelhead derby and pairs inexperienced with experienced guys. It's a great way to learn directly from an expert and the prizes aren't too shabby either! Justin Elia will have details in the spring, assuming he is running it in 2010... Laszlo...going to be a tough weekend without rain. Try to think about bigger flows/river systems & also river mouths of larger, known steelhead runs. Tony
  12. Even hitting Bronte in the perfect post-rain conditions isn't a gaurantee for fish anymore, and that is what is frustrating. I've experienced a steep decline in success rate over the last 3 years at Bronte, and yet an exponential increase in success when I fish other waters. I chalk it up to simply having to learn to work extremely hard to catch 1 or 2 fish in a day...so when I fish areas that hold numbers of fish now, I realize that I don't really suck that bad afterall I've recently had my PB day for numbers of fish this year with 30 to the bank and over 75 hooked...that day made up for the years of Bronte frustration in a matter of minutes. Pat, don't be so harsh...get out your fishing regulations booklet, roadmap, spend some $ on fuel, and put in some legwork on any of the sizeable tributaries that flow into any of the Great Lakes. I am betting in no time, you too will find success and that sweet spot that you will want to keep all to yourself. Tony
  13. Thanks for the support guys! Not a lot of people in the draw so far so you guys have a good chance at a days fishing and some gear!
  14. I rarely, if ever fish Bronte anymore and I live very close to it, if that helps indicate the state of Bronte these days... Spend some time on the road, and look forward to consistent double-digit numbers of fish rather than waste your valuable time in a dead creek. My $.02
  15. Happy Birthday Rick, hope you got to go fishing
  16. No doubt Bill!...and if they can't make it, let me know, i'd be all over that trip. I'm still going to try organizing an adventure with some buddies, I've got the money and time to go, not so much for many others... Tony
  17. Mike & crew...Any more room with you guys? sounds like a good group of lads to be going with
  18. The Avantis are nothing compared to the R-Type...great reels. Keep an eye on Rapala...they are coming out with some quality rods and reels including trolling stuff with line counters...better than the 1st generation stuff. Tony
  19. Craig makes a good point, it is much better to use specific characteristics to ID fish, rather than things that can change...like colour, jaw shape, etc. Atlantics have a thin caudal peduncle (part where you hold when tailing fish) and slightly forked tail Browns have thick, juicy caudal peduncles and square tails. Rainbows always have a black edge to their adipose fin (if it hasn't been clipped haha), almost like someone oulined it with a Sharpie Tony
  20. Great thread...it's fun reliving the learning curve through your post laszlo...you're well on your way to success. The Internet is an amazing tool for anglers isn't it? I learned by watching successful guys, being patient, practicing and experimenting and asking a LOT of questions to whoever would talk to me on the water Good luck this weekend...it's can only get better bud and remember etiquette first, fish second Tony
  21. That's great to hear Lloyd, I don't think all guides are as concious about the handling and care of fish, including going deep for them. Kudos to you! It's tempting to drop a line down to that 100-120 foot mark out in the reach, but I'm guessing most of those numerous hooks are Lakers anyway...we actually caught a laker on a spoon at 35 feet...3 TIMES this weekend....ugh. Tony
  22. Fantastic day guys, that Lloyd sure knows how to stay on fish
  23. Wow what a coincidence, my cousin has an idea registered on the Aviva site as well and I too had requested support from the community here at OFC. I hope the mods don't mind this sort of thing... Even though it is in direct competition with my cousin's idea, you've got a vote from me for Silver Creek as it is also an idea to improve the future (i.e. kids & youth) Tony
  24. Good Job! They weren't on big-time where we were trolling though
