Here is a quick summary of this past weekend fishing Friday was Catfishing as the winds were too high for a pre-fish for a fun tournament that was scheduled for Saturday. Met up with fishdawg and steve-hamilton and I think each boat managed a new personal best catfish including mine...they grow big in the Grand!! My new PB! 21.02lbs 34inx22in fishdawg with one on Saturday was a fun salmon tournament held in memory of Trevor Field (oldguy), Jello and Aaron Shirley joined me for the day and we had a great time, even managed to win some money to cover expenses and then some. Total count was 10 for 14 biggest 19lbs New electronics worked great! Sunday I had my cousin who is new to salmon fishing out, as well as Uncle Buck. Fishing was a bit slower and the fish we found on Saturday relocated but we picked away and ended up 4 for 7, biggest about 8-10lbs, by mid-day when we headed home. See you on the water! Tony

Tell them it's ok that they can draw the prize for you and to send it to your local post office. They can verify your ID and release if it matches. When you get the call from the post office that your prize has arrived, maybe then get excited? Otherwise...SCAM Tony

I'll throw up a vote for the CAG membership as well...it's a newer organization and their magazine seems to be improving in quality and content all the time. Haven't had a chance to go through the new magazine yet, but looking forward to targeting Carp in May...going to be putting the boat to use targeting them this year Check out their website: http://www.carpanglersgroup.com/?page_id=4

Give them a call, sometimes they can give you a better idea, their customer service is excellent (I'm not sure about Cabelas in Canada as they were formerly S.I.R.) Cabelas.com is where I ordered my stuff.

I have those exact same waders and I love them! and would highly recommend them. They are high-quality and lightweight and I can't tell you how much I appreciate actually being dry after a days fishing. The problem for me before was getting too hot and damp/wet from sweating and it is just uncomfortable. I no longer have that problem! I use these boots with my waders and they are great except in wet snow which clumps up like any other felt boot (like walking on bowling balls!) but they are awesome for everything else http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...&hasJS=true The ultimate boot for the money though appears to be these new Guidewear boots which are actually better as they have a rubber sole with studs and wet snow won't stick to them like it does with felt. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...t20616&rid= Tony

Suction cups will drive you crazy when they pop off and your transducer gets wrapped up in the prop Here is another option, which is great for faster tinnies as it is very solid. http://www.titelok.com/product_info.php?cP...products_id=129 Tony

Steelheading With Ben Beattie ~ Pic's & Video
tonyb replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Good-bye Gold, hello Silver! Nicely done Ben and kudos to Mike for graciously hosting you for the day. Hopefully you can return the favour Ben, I'm sure the steelhead would enjoy the break Tony -
Two words...Hammy Harness!

Not worth the money on the North side...if you were willing to travel for the day to head to the south side of the island you would do better. Definately take some gear though, there are some larger rivers/inlets that are begging to be cast for Tarpon and cudas...

NY fishing license to increase next year to $70
tonyb replied to bassfighter's topic in General Discussion
Well said solopaddler, I have to agree with everything you said. If the fee increase does nothing but maintain the status quo it is money well spent. If it causes an increase in opportunities, that's just a bonus! Sorry, I will not be signing the petition. Would you sign a petition that called for a decrease in angling opportunities in NY but keeping the license fee the same? -
The new Rapala stuff coming out does look really good quality wise...R-Type included. I think Rapala is trying to break into the rod market by looking at their prices...I think the other higher-end rod companies are not going to be too pleased with the new competition

Great info Craig, I would also add that I don't think the Lakers contribute as much to the overall fishing generated economy as much as Chinooks, Steelhead and Coho. They do grow very large and are numerous, but they just aren't as popular a target.

Here was 4 of the 5 bass that were entered in my first official bass derby with a buddy. I love this picture as it captures the excitement and fun of the day, and yes all 5 fish were retained in the LIVEwell for weigh-in and then live released. This is also on a body of water that has gazillions of derby's/tourny's every year and the population just keeps increasing in numbers and size. Proof of the quality of livewell systems and angler education today, we are leaps and bounds ahead on fish conservation in general in 2008 compared to even just 20 years ago! Anyway, this post may seem antagonizing to you, but it I did have a point to make...oh yeah here it is: Some anglers only practice catch & release, others harvest everything within their limits, some people flyfish and others only chase Musky...we are all different yet we all share the same passion for the excitement these scaled critters bring us. Let's agree that it would be pretty boring if we all shared the same beliefs...so mix things up and go have some fun...fishing! Tony

We'll have to wait and see... It is a proposal right now, not in effect. If it did go into effect it wouldn't be until July 2010. The payments for family incomes under $160,000.00 would not come until July 2011 and would come in the form of 3 seperate payments of $333.33, i'm guessing in 4 month intervals?? It's not like we have a say in the matter, so sit tight, don't panic...this won't hurt a bit

That is pretty funny right there, and a testament to the imprinting abilities of trout and salmon! hehe

Try clearing your temporary internet files. If you are using Internet Explorer go to tools -> internet options -> and then click on the delete button under browsing history, then click delete all. Try logging in again...

Just saw this thread and thought I would add a picture of a Lake O. Atlantic next to a Lake O. Brown. As you can see, it's easy to tell the difference once you know what to look for. A KEY identifying characteristic that doesn't fluctuate like spot patters can, is the base of the tail and shape of the tail... It's skinny and slightly forked on Atlantics and stout and square on Browns. With that in mind, you'll never mis-identify these species. 100 % Atlantic 100% Brown Trout Tony

What is with the brainwashing and Lowrance? From what little I have seen of the Lowrance side viewing, it appears that they have licensed Humminbirds Side Imaging technology (If you can\\\'t beat \\\'em, join \\\'em right?) You can be the judge, see screens below Lowrance Side Viewing screenshot (reportedly...) Humminbird Side Imaging screenshot (actual) Also, what a lot of people are not thinking about, is that hardware as well as software upgrades will be in order. The transducer is quite different for Side Imaging technology compared to a standard transducer. Standard - Side Imaging - So, expect to spend at least another $200 on a Side scanning transducer, time to uninstall/install the old/new transducer and also the software update download/transfer/install process. I am surprised by Lowrances\\\' strategy for launching a new product, HDS, and at the same time failing their loyal customers by not offering a product with current technology already built-in. Tony

Go with the longest shaft possible if you are concerned...you can always raise it up, but not the other way around if you don't have the length to work with.
