  1. JFish, was that you sitting at the end of the Pier on the lighthouse side around 6:30-7pm? nobody was there yet...I was heading out for the evening troll..Black Lund
  2. Further to what Uncle Buck said...It's end of summer, and every year when the temps start dropping at night and there are heavy rains you can expect salmon and trout to move towards great lakes tributaries. I can gaurantee you that, until the day there are no more salmon or trout in the Great Lakes. Successful , migratory salmonid fishing is a game of timing, and putting in your time. Sometimes you can fish 5 nights in a row and get skunked, but on that 6th night you could land 10 fish. Do you think the guy who has just spent 5 nights skunked and one night catching & releasing double his limit is going to post on here in a public forum right away and let you know where, when, and what he caught his fish on??? Be honest with yourself, and have some good sense. It's called fishing, not catching, now get out there and go fishing! Tony
  3. Condolences to you and your family Wayne. Good for you for spending time on the water with your mom and her catching that Laker...her smiling with you and the fish is heartwarming and I'm sure will be proudly displayed in your home. Take care, Tony
  4. Good to hear from you, don't worry about the website, just get better bud
  5. Have used the shallow diver Smelt (blue) in the spring for Chinook Salmon with success. Replace the hooks right away! they are not strong enough for salmon. We used 2X strong Owner and 2x strong Gamakatsu round bend trebles in size #4.
  6. Good looking site so far Mako, looking forward to your updates. Check out my entry
  7. Nice bass for sure, looks to be 4lbs +?...there used to be a great population of smallies like that in Bronte...dozen a day easily. However, they are targetted heavily now with live bait and catch and keep anglers and the population has been impacted. There is nothing wrong whatsoever with people keeping bass as they are following the regs, i'm just sayin'
  8. I tried...but busted off my dipsy and spoon when I went to change it (kink in wire!) So I spent a total of 5 minutes...marked lots and lots of baitfish out there though! with suspended hooks...worth some time exploring an untouched population of fish. Like you said, the locals anchor off the same spots night after night jigging up the odd smallish walleye...yawn
  9. I'm not sure if you have room or not, but the 36" track system I installed on my boat allows me to change from trolling to other types of fishing easily. triple rod-holder tree and downrigger base slide right out of the track. I can also move them around quite a bit to suit the type of trolling and whether or not I have my top cover up. the longer the track, the more stability it will provide, just be sure to back it with plywood or aluminum plating the same length of the track, and large washers/lock nuts and you'll have a solution that will be rock solid for years. Do it right the first time...
  10. Do you have a boat? How is it equipped? I am pretty sure there is a sizeable population of pickerel that are suspending and feeding on the large schools of bait over deeper water in Restoule. Erie/Quinte tactics should produce some quality fish for you. Also, I would say Stormy is has better variety than restoule (musky, bass, pickerel, trout) Here is a musky from stormy caught by my buddy aaron
  11. Very nice! Lucky Lund strikes again Double headers are great when you have help, but try that when you're on your own ...not so great hehe Tony
  12. Lots of smaller fish getting in the way though Nice sunrise over calm waters Got Bait? Kings! Cohos! And a nice sunset to finish it off Covered a lot of water in my search, hope to lock into something with some weight before the derby ends. Tony
  13. Stick to Cleo's, Rattle traps, and go pick up some of the 'Peters spoons' at Bronte Outdoors Don't forget to be nocturnal either.
  14. I thought everyone would have recognized the lake from the backgrounds...it was Lake Ecks for sure
  15. A very interesting story that goes further...I'm glad we could add to the experience for Zane on that day. We were competing against them in the Tightline Shootout that was running on the same day. Because they chose to enter that fish in the Salmon Derby instead of the Tightline Shootout, we were able to take the big fish prize in the Tightline Shootout with our fish @ 33.7lbs. Vito Cirone, who organizes the Tightline Shootout named the big fish trophy in memory of Grandpa Patrick. We realized the importance of the trophy to the Patrick family (which Zane would have won anyway!) and donated it to Zane for his great catch. Congrats again to Zane, a future salmon pro! Tony
  16. Looks like a great trip! good to see the Lund getting put to good use. Does the Verado still make you grin each time you run it? Tony
  17. Good to meet you too Brian, and also nice to meet your bro memart Here are a couple of kings we got during the pre-fish but you'll all have to wait to see the picture of the behemoth that Gman (Gavin) caught to win big fish during the derby 33.70lbs! These ones are just babies compared to that fish And here is the GIANT that took home $1000 for us. Congrats again Gavin!
  18. Not quite 100% accurate yo_guy as these signs are posted between Hwy2 and Rebecca St... Petro and N is ok though
  19. If there was a Cabelas with the prices and selection of the online U.S. store locally, it would be very dangerous Selection, product availbility, pricing, warranty, customer service are out of this world. Even after exchange rate and shipping you can still save tons of money versus your local Canadian Tire prices for example. Husky Jerk's are on sale for $5.99 at Cabelas right now...you can't even buy a box of hooks for that price here! 'nuff said
  20. No, I mainly spent summers there with my grandparents when I was a kid on Lake Manitou of all places. Lots of family from the island though and I'm a band member of Wiky
  21. Haweater Weekend is coming up! man I didn't realize how much I missed the island until visiting. I concur cambo, I like that the island isn't rapidly changing. Here in Burlington...every other month there is a huge new high-density subdivision, wal-mart, home depot, etc, etc...unbelievable really. I was glad to see everything where it used to be and not super-sized! Clof, I agree, the smallies are probably as much if not more infested on the island but the trip wasn't planned as a hardcore fishing week...more laid-back and spending time with the wife I only got out on 2 mornings all week if you can believe it, first trip out was to put together a gameplan for gramps who doesn't have great balance anymore in a boat, so trolling fit the bill perfectly. Rod would go off and either me or my wife would hand it to him while seated, it worked out perfect and was safe for him. Tony
  22. Pretty close to Manitouwaning just off Hwy 6/Bidwell Rd. We were fishing about halfway between Sandfield and Manitoulin Resort in the deeper water. 110 fow was the ticket for us although we did pick up fish at each of the sharp drop-offs like the one shown in the sonar picture, but it is too much work tracking bottom with the riggers on those steep drops
  23. Just got back from a great relaxing week on the beautiful manitoulin island. It has been too long since I was last there, and what a flashback of a trip as I used to spend summers there as a kid, and surprisingly not a lot has changed in the past 20 or so years! We spent the week at Manitoulin Resort camping and after this experience I don't think I will be camping at Prov. Parks anymore. There is just no comparison to the quality of the sites, facilities and the family atmosphere you get at a private campground. One of the owners Myia remembered we had the big boat from when we booked and set us up with one of the larger docking areas which was greatly appreciated. I was worried about leaving all of my gear on the boat but she assured me there wasn't a worry at all and I had no problems. I was really blown away at the service. She asked if we wanted firewood and we said yeah we'll start with a few bundles and go from there...much to my surprise they pulled up to our campsite with a Quad and a trailer full of wood...and a good mix of hardwood with some pine saw-offs from a mill probablym, and it was bone dry! completely opposite experience from the provincial parks. The other thing that impressed us was the cost of things like ice, it was about $1.50 cheaper there than in town at the beer store! just great to see them being fair and not gouging which they could easily do as you are about 20 mins from little current. Unfortunately, the docking and launch area was pretty shallow for my boat and it was very windy pretty much the whole week which made it difficult to manouvre out of the marina area. However, I did manage a couple of quick outings and can report the Lake Trout fishing on Lake Manitou is silly...you could easily catch 100 + in a day if you wanted...I kid you not! Here's some pics of the week Some hiking and scenery shots... Anyone know if this was edible? What kind of flower this is? After reeling in a dozen or so fish on my heavier salmon gear, I switched it up to light spinning gear. 9' Avid ML with 6lb test A 'small' group of trout...there were times when they were so many it looked like a bait ball but they were all trout! This was one of the bigger Lakers...funny thing happened actually. I was getting a lot of 1-3lb fish on the salmon tackle and then after switching to the lighter outfit I hook this fish and it is peeling drag and I couldn't budge it from bottom at first! I was thinking bad timing to hook a real monster, but it wasn't as big as it fought at first Need to get a proper tri-pod for solo pics...lots of shaker lakers around though. Great eating size This was the view most days...not exactly the best winds to be fishing in Highlight of the trip was getting my grandpa out who lives on the island in Kagawong, he was blown away with all the gadgets and what not...he asked me if I was able to get the address and phone number of the fish that showed up on sonar. I think he had his best day trout fishing on the lake in all his years with me, that made my week! Amanda with one on the light gear as well Here's a couple of the smaller ones we kept for a fish fry, and a picture I am hoping to frame and send to grandpa for xmas this year Now back to the grind and to flip the Salmon switch on...fishing the GOSD and upcoming tightlines shootout The hot lure, that I first put down and didn't take off was a Michigan Stinger NBK spoon kept at 2-2.2mph at the rigger Until next time! I am already thinking about going back after Labour Day Tony
  24. Burlington eh? I'll keep ya in mind next time I am looking to fill some seats in my boat Tony
