Interestingly enough, the only place that there was any of it that he could see was right at the hatch to go into the attic. It wasn't present underneath the batting... Not all vermiculite is contaminated, the only way to know is if there is an old bag that it came in Zonolite is the brand that is definately contaminated, the rest requires a test to prove if it has asbestos fibres or not in it. Not sure if 'fine' is an appropriate term for how you turned out Wayne Keep the input coming... Tony

During the home inspection on a home that my wife and I have put an offer in on, the guy found a small amount of vermiculite insulation in the attic (A handful or 2, the rest is fiberglass batting insulation). For those who don't know, vermiculite insulation is assumed to be contaminated with asbestos, although it may not contain it. His advice was since it is such a small amount (that he could see) to remove it (with proper removal techniques) Now, since our offer is conditional on home inspection, should we walk? Everything I read on contaminated vermiculite insulation is that it is best to leave it alone, and not go into the attic at all. I'm now paranoid about having ANY asbestos in the house at all... Has anyone else been in this position? Should I have the seller pay to remove it professionaly or adjust our offer to consider a removal operation. I understand this can run up to $10,000.00 a home for professional removal. Health is the most important thing we have... Help! Tony

Check this out! Tony

Yikes, good thing the engine didn't stall and you had an operational bilge pump. Time spent maintaining your craft = more enjoyable time on the water. Should be an easy fix Tony

LipDip, a quality sonar is an absolute must if you want to consistently be successful fishing deep or large expanses of open water. Certain types of fishing don't require a sonar (eg. bass fishing in summer) but for big water salmon, trout, walleye, etc you will have less success without a sonar, gauranteed. I think you meant to say don't confuse fishing tools with gadgets Quality sonar units are tools, this is a gadget... Tony

Love it when the UPS truck stops by on a Monday....

Very nice, I'll be doing the same thing with my boat Wayne. I am thinking Trojan tackle though, local guy that makes some quality track systems as well. Berts, Trojan Tackle, Pursuit (Traxstech) all look the same to me. I know that you know your aluminum, is there really any difference in quality between the brands that you noticed when you were comparing (if you were comparing...)? I thought about it, and I'd say go with the 4ft track (It's what I'll be installing). That way you can get your riggers and ball holders into the track and still have room for 2 rod holders for Dipsy diver/Planer board rods if needed. If you have dual rod holders on the riggers, even better. Now you can run 8 rods on the big water and have a nice uncluttered set-up. That is of course, if you have that many friends to plunk into seats She's coming along, it looks like I'll be walking down that same path...thinking it will be next spring though, instead of this fall as the original plans had in store. Have fun! Tony -
The problem is that the people that are willing to take the test are not the people that need to write the test. Tony

mmm Green Pickerel I mean release immediately! Tony

Thanks for posting the pics David, that is what I am talking about. People should realize the quality of the units before dismissing the idea of side imaging. I blame the manufaturers for not putting out such a clear message. This technology is priced at a premium eliminating a vast portion of the market. In time, expect to see this technology become more affordable, it is good to know that there are actual improvements beyond 'color' in a sonar unit. Tony

Condolences to the family. I didn't really know Peter, but he did sell me some custom spoons for Salmon fishing that put a # of fish into the net for me. Any guy that can do that is ok by me Tony

Pickling is a popular preparation method Stan...the same way that they pickle herring. I haven't tried it myself, but have heard that they are a fairly bony fish, like most coarse fish. Let us know how it turns out! P.S. Amazing how the steelhead will use the schools of suckers for cover Tony

Is there a URL that someone could share? I haven't heard of Extreme Angler magazine... Thanks, Tony

I am surprised at all the Lowrance loyal folks here. In my opinion, Lowrance has been riding their reputation for too long while other companies are pushing the envelope when it comes to technology and a quality product. If you seriously compare the colour sonars from Lowrance to Humminbird you will see a CLEAR difference, Humminbird coming out on top. Humminbird is innovating while others are contemplating, kudos to them. My next sonar purchase will be a Humminbird, but I haven't decided if I will go the SI route or not yet, it is a very nice unit. If you are near Tall Tales Bait and Tackle in Cambridge, stop in and talk to Pat about the Side Imaging technology and he can give you some great information as he is actually using the technology. Cheers, Tony Tony

Let's not get started with the Atlantic salmon for Simcoe... Perch 50(25)- Fine where it is... Crappie - No Limit, they compete with Perch for food, lets protect the World Class perch fishery on Simcoe, people can go elsewhere for Crappie... Pike - 2, 4 what's the difference...majority release Pike anyway. lakers 2 - Fine where it is... White fish 2 - Fine where it is... Walleye - There's walleye in the lake?? hehe Bass - 5 is fine...do people actually eat bass?

Thanks to the absent minded person at Lund
tonyb replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
Very nice Wayne, you're going to need it on Temagami! BTW, Step 1 of Operation Lund is completed, house has been sold to make way for the new one! Now I've got 90 days to find a house, trade my car for a pickup, and order the 1900! Tony -
Agreed Roy, all you can do is call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) and hope that the non-native fisherman get fined. The native people do not need to abide by MNR regulations, provided they are in their treaty area. That means there is no posession limit, angling method restrictions, etc, regardless of how the act may put at risk future populations of fish species. Considering the bigger picture...who are the businesses buying illegal fish? The natives would not overharvest if there was not a demand for it ($$$), so perhaps that is the place to direct our energy to be productive in reducing harvest by the natives. Locate and identify the businesses involved in the illegal fish trade. Let's not turn this into a Native bashing thread folks Tony

Not surprising at all, garbage may have also been a contributing factor. Tony

I could have swore you walked right past me, I was going to say hello but it was one of those moments where I wasn't 100% sure it was you. If it was you...Hey man! how are ya? Tony

Of course they feel pain! I don't think that they associate lures with pain, nor do I think they dwell on it or keep it in memory. We have all probably at one point or another caught a fish with a hook in it's mouth from a previous breakoff from another angler, or net marks, etc. If the fish were intelligent beings as P3TA states they are, don't you think they would avoid lures and being caught multiple times? Fish that eat spiny rayed fishes will always juggle the fish around in their mouth until it goes down head first, with the spines not sticking into their throat. Kind of like when you take a bite of a Jalapeno popper and the temperature is too hot, you bounce it around in your mouth until it cools It is not an argument you can win, re: pain vs. no pain. Tony
