It's brutal since the only reason why I don't have a boat right now is because I have nowhere to put it Even new developments can't make accomodations for larger garages if requested since the approved lots are zoned for a specific house plan. Tony
-
Talk about frustrating! I am just curious how most people store their boats, I need to move to accomodate a 19' boat and it is next to impossible to find a place that has a garage that is ~25' in length! Most of the garages in homes in the Burlington/Milton/Waterdown areas are 20' in length and the majority have 2 garage doors instead of one single garage door, making it impossible to get a boat of that size into the garage. I know that it is possible to get a swing tongue on the trailer and park the boat diagonally to fit it in a 20' deep garage but that can be a real pain when you are exhausted after spending a day on the water. I am really looking hard for a property that has a big garage, but man is it tough! It's also overlooked on places like mls.ca where they rarely list garage dimensions. I also found that a 'double' car garage is more like 1.5 cars, and that counting the 'squares' on the garage door can make the difference (6 squares is 1.5, 8 is closer to a real 2 car garage) Tony

Should be fishable in the east by tomorrow or Thursday. Tony

Kemper, that's something that I try to do as well. It's surprising where some fish hang out, especially when the water is high and dirty. Tony

addicted, I can totally understand where you are coming from. I've caught a fish, landed it, turned around to start fishing and there are 2 guys right where I was fishing when I hooked the fish, only they have waded in up to their thighs! grrr hehe When I arrive at a pool I want to fish and there are people there I assess the situation. Is there room to fish? if so then a simple "mind if I can join you guys for a couple drifts?" question rarely gets a no answer. It's all about respect. If I don't get an answer or they say there is no room, then I'll chill out for a bit and wait for them to leave or move to the next spot. Life is too short and time on the water too valuable to get ticked off about other guys acting like idiots. I think that in general, angling ethics have taken a dive with the Internet age. Respect for other anglers and learning streamside etiquette isn't something you can scour from a message board. It is something that comes from experience, tolerance, patience, and time spent fishing amongst others with the same interest. Tony

Like I said...even creating a law doesn't mean people will change. People still drive without wearing seatbelts, even though they are putting their own life at risk in addition to being susceptible to a fine from the police. Does it make any sense why they don't wear a seatbelt? NO!...neither does littering, disrepecting people and kicking fish but that still happens. It would be nice though, if common sense wasn't so uncommon. Tony

Thanks guys! Can't wait to have a complete carp set-up that I can just grab and go in the summer evenings. Tony

Steez = The finest spinning reel made, EVER! They also make a baitcaster and rods, but they are less impressive than the spinning reel. Tony

I think I heard or read somewhere that if they aren't released by April 18th, they are being asked to wait until Jan 1, 2008 to avoid the confusion of a regulation change just before opening season for most of the sportfish species. As for now, stick to last years regulations as the MNR has requested. Tony

What you are describing is common sense behaviour, regardless of the activity. Whether you create an ethics code or try to educate people, there will always be rude, inconsiderate people that kick fish back into the water, litter, and encroach on another anglers spots. As embarassing as it is to admit, it's human nature. Tony

Thank you Rick, Dan C, Riverat...You have all basically said or re-iterated what I was thinking and would have posted. I'll leave it at that. Tony

Cheap and Steez do not belong in the same sentence. You'll get the best price at cabelas.com, even with exchange and shipping. Tony

I'd rather be stupid and lucky than good. (fishing report no pics)

Good job, getting out early to beat the crowds does pay off! Hopefully next time, you are a little more lucky and get some more fish to the net. Funny read, that sort of fiasco happens all the time Tony -
Thanks for the kind words everyone, I really did enjoy myself and always do when out fishing (How could you not?). I remember when I got the call from Aaron... Aaron: Hey Tony, do you want to fish the lower Niagara tomorrow for Steelhead? Me: Heck yeah! Aaron: We'll also be filming for one of this year's episodes, is that ok!? Me: HECK YEAH! What will I have to say and/or do? Aaron: Nothing in particular, let's just go fishing, say what you want to say and we'll try to capture it on film. Needless to say, it was great having no pressure and I just blabbed on all day about everything helpful I could think of. (Although the tip I did on the baits took a few tries to get right without me smiling like an idiot the whole time or fumbling the words Doug, you noticed that snarl of line!? hehehe It just goes to show that those kind of things happen to everyone, I think that's a big part of the fun of fishing too when that sort of thing happens, can't be too serious! If you pay attention at the end of their episodes they try to include something funny like that on each show. For anyone who missed the show, you can catch it on http://www.gettinghooked.net/Episodes.htm Tony

Hmm, I worked out the cost of 2 Shimano Baitrunner 4500 reels with shipping and the $ U.S. to $CAN conversion and it works out to $274 Canadian (Before Tax) from Cabelas.com 2 x Shimano Baitrunner 4500 reels from Fishing world = $360 (Before Tax) That is $86 savings on just the reels, let alone everything else. There is something to be said about convenience, but only if price margins are within a reasonable amount. I don't understand why local retailers can't be more competitive, it's difficult to not be drawn to significant savings from non-local retailers when you work hard for your money. Especially when it gets delivered right to your doorstep. Tony

Have a great one, good luck in your game of chesterfield rugby! Tony

So then, I assume the Credit River watershed extends North into the buffer zone? (Pretty interesting stuff anyway) Tony

I am curious where the Carp folks purchase their equipment in the GTA. I would like to purchase 2 entire setups for this year (Rods, rod pods, bite alarms, net, baitrunner reels, etc) I think I will get the baitrunner 4500 reels from cabelas (109.99) but rods and rod pods are pretty large items and I imagine the shipping costs would be pretty high. I know Fishing World in Hamilton carries a pretty good selection of Carp gear, but I found they were rather pricey. Could you please help me out by recommending some different shops? Thanks, Tony

Hehehe I've got the cat jumping in the air too! she does a big jump with her front legs stretched way out like a big Y trying to catch the mouse. She knows the sound of the drag coming off the reel means playtime. I just pull about a foot of line off the reel and she comes running Good times... Tony

Why do they care about egg collection and fish lifts in a body of water that is known to already be contaminated with VHS? It's not like they can get rid of it now... Tony

Lots of places to fish where there are fewer people. The rivermouths of a lot of the major tributaries will attract both salmon and trout that are feeding on baitfish that congregate in those areas. You can get into some good numbers and variety of species as well. The opener in the popular creeks is pretty hectic, you need to try to get a few fish early before they are spooked by 'deep-waders' (people who walk into pools up to their armpits trying to make drifts) Tony

No, no that fish was caught on....Georgian Bay...or was it Lake Nipissing...lol the hoax emails will begin circulating. Still an amazing fish though! Tony

Hahaha! I have an ice fishing rod setup that I use for catfishing in the house I use a uni-knot tied to a catnip mouse toy (no hooks required) and I found the best presentation is a quick, erratic retrieve or the famous twitch, twitch...pause Tony (No cats were harmed during catfishing episodes)

Shouldn't our licensing fees also be reduced by 46% then too? Tony

Oh man, that just makes me laugh. Is Mr. Ramsay being asked different questions than what is in print? He is not addressing the questions at all! talk about 'beating around the bush'. Who do you vote for though? I still say they need to have a 'None of the Above' option at the voting polls. Maybe when the majority vote is 'None of the Above' they will start to change their lying, deceitful ways. The GTA is a very wealthy area so the Conservatives will likely get voted in again -- Woohoo another 1% drop in G.S.T...or were we supposed to forget about that? Tony
