Always wear some form of eye protection when fishing. Sunglasses, clear safety glasses at night, etc. It will save you from a trip to the hospital and this! Oh nevermind the picture is too gross to put up, but I think you folks have seen it before... Protect your eyes! Tony

Trojan Tackle is a local fabricator of such systems, check it out. http://www.trojantackle.ca Traxstech and Bert's offer quality products as well. Decide what your needs are and then award your business to the company who offers the best service & price. Tony

Go with a Lund, just finance it over 15 years to keep the payments reasonable.

Offshore fishing Subsurface Speed and Temp units
tonyb replied to Vanselena's topic in General Discussion
Until they realize they are $500...Vanselena. Tony -
Nice fish! I'll remember to pack the shoulderpads next time out I wish they would pave along the front (lake side) of the rockpile on the east pier to create more space for anglers.

I've talked to some of the 'pro' salmon guys that fish Lake Ontario and the common theme is they would rather be without a Sonar before losing their down speed and temp. Tony

Good for you! I'm sure many will appreciate your kind gesture.

Holy Crap, that does look like a Crucian. You should call the MNR... Tony

This is precisely why myself and I'm sure many others, are guilty of not wearing a PFD 100% of the time on the water. It sucks casting lures with a clumsy foam jacket on, period. The auto-inflateables use hydrostatic inflators. Meaning they only fire when submerged. While I agree there is more risk in something breaking that has moving parts, it's less risky than not wearing a PFD at all. They are coastguard approved, that has to say something about the reliability of the technology used in these new devices. Tony

Hypothermia is a real threat in the summer on the Great Lakes. Auto-inflateables are the way to go. Anyone use an EPIRB or GPIRB? Tony

Nice catch and cool name too...Vanselena Why would you ever release any precious gold from Erie? Mr Walleye...meet Mr Frying Pan Tony

I haven't heard of Crucian Carp being seen around here, but I have heard of Rudd being sighted. Are you sure it wasn't a Rudd? (Still VERY BAD - eg. Invasive Species) Tony

Is he a member of the O.S.G.A.? I would suggest that as a starting point if not ( http://www.ontariofishcharters.ca ) Also, if he does salmon fishing charters on Lake Ontario, getting involved as a member of the charter group that can include Salmon Derby tickets for their guests is another way to entice business. As for publications...Ontario Out of Doors as someone suggested as it has one of the largest circulations out there. To take that even further, why not have him contact some editors to have them out for a day to display some of his tactics that could be used in an article. I think they call it advertorials when they are really cheesy, but with the right spin he'll appear helpful, successful and a good reference for people who get all hot and excited after reading the article, and as a bonus people can then see his contact info in print at the end of the article... So many ways, yet there is not one magic solution that will work. Be creative, helpful, honest and make it fun, and word of mouth will take care of the rest. I should be in marketing or something..sheesh lol Tony

I bought some for Carp fishing but they were a smidgeon more in price than that. http://www.delkim.co.uk/ Tony

The newspapers are the last place I would look for a job, good move. Maybe it's just me but, I always felt that the jobs in the papers were the leftovers that every person has already passed up, or from companies that are less than ideal to work for... You should have no trouble filling this position as it is a good starting point for people in sales by the sounds of the job ad. Tony

Sounds like a productive night Mitch! good stuff. What's with the angled horizons in the shots though? I thought we had this talk before? hehehe I liked the Kodak team shots from the Tightlines shootout, very nice touch. Tony

Even worse when they crowd the area you are fishing from shore... This is the St Lawrence seaway...I couldn't believe they were literally directly over top of where we were presenting our baits. They would get right in front like that, drive up the river and drift back down right over top of our setup. It was annoying since they were starting the engine up every time and blasting away, surely spooking the fish. Ignorance is bliss... Tony

Question: can i use sunfish or gobies as bait?
tonyb replied to gforce's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely do not use either for bait. You can however use Yellow Perch for bait in the Great Lakes I believe Tony -
What's Your Favorite Fishing Site to Buy Gear from?
tonyb replied to canadianguy33's topic in General Discussion
Cabelas all the way, no hidden fees or extra duty charges. What you see on your online invoice prior to clicking the purchase button is all you pay. $179.99+ for a reel here vs $109.99 at Cabelas. What's the U.S. exchange rate? 1% now? the savings are clear. This applies to all tackle except big bulky items which could cost a lot in shipping. I got ripped buying a rod pod and carp net here locally, only because of the size of those things it is not appropriate to buy on the Internet. Tony -
Yep, this is my second year now. Always a good time. Now that I have the proper gear I am going to try all over the place for Carp, they are literally everywhere in southern ontario.
-
I also agree that is very reasonable pricing for a week. You can't even get a campsite at a provincial park for that price...and the floors are dirt Tony
