Let me clear this up a bit more. I'm sure there are some gl2 rods that are good but the 784C CBR was not the rod for me. I thought it would be great for jerkbaits and it just wasn't what I was looking for. The jerkbaits special on the other hand had just the right amount of well, everything to make me happy.

I used to use a 7" compre and it worked quite well. I bought a Megabass XX Jerkbait Special last year and found it even better. It is a 6'8 rod so it kind of gets the most out of casting while still being short enough for tip down presentations. I bought this for jerkbaits but quickly realized how versatile this rod is. I had been using a G. Loomis GL2 for this and it was just too whippy. The Jerkbait special is a little stiffer than most rods I have used that were designed for trebles but it just seems perfect to me.

I agree with Irishfield, If you have a rubber hub design, putting it into reverse may just reseat the hub long enough to get you where you want to go. My experiences of when they go are eerily similar. I have a merc though but was running an old Michigan Wheel with a rubber hub. You could feel it slip and then grab every so often so before it got worse, I switched to a merc prop the guy I bought the boat from had as the factory prop. It had the flo tork designed hub. The prop was a little big for the boat so I bought a smaller pitched one with the same hub design. The flo tork will explode if you hit anything but you can easily replace it yourself. You can buy a merc prop and a yammy hub kit as well. they have hub kits for all major brands of motors.

Had my Pro team 190 in a 20' deep garage at the old house and it was on an angle with the tongue swung in. The new house has a bit more room (Wider, not longer) but it is still on an angle and just fits. At least with the new garage though, I can park a vehicle beside it.

Very Possible. Have you hit anything with it lately? Stump? Shoal?
-
When it spins out, do the RPMS increase or remain constant? I still wouldn't rule out the spun prop if the rpms spike but if it remains constant, there might be something else wrong. It wouldn't hurt to bring it in. There always seems to be something to tinker with and although shop rates can suck, nothing is worse than having a boat that continues to give you issues.

Highly doubt it's the clutch dog. They make an aweful racket...

Don't forget perch! Its one of the only places around there where perch has a closed period. pay attention to the wind and stay close to shore if you are going in a canoe. Wind and water conditions can change on a dime.

Yeah, It isn't needed, but it is always good piece of mind to have it. I know lots of people with similar setups that don't. I thought about running mine without but was quickly told the advantages and if I ever hit a rock or something, it will pay for itself.

They are tools and there are reasons to use both. my spinning outfits are used for wacky rigs, drop shots and new this year; Spybaiting. Everything else I do is on a baitcaster. If I am pan fishing, it is spinning gear as well. Spending some good coin on your first baitcaster is always a good idea. In this case, he already has the reel so he just needs to learn with it.

well, The use what the people are telling you here and practice practice practice. I learned on the best reel I could afford. I figured if I didn't like it, I could sell it and lose less money than if I bought a cheap reel and threw it out. Luckily, I didn't have to. You will get the hang of it. It took me a few days on the water to really dial it in though.

Trolling Motor - Minn Kota or MotorGuide (GPS)
Lape0019 replied to hutch4113's topic in General Discussion
I had a terrible experience with Motorguide so when it came time to buy a new TM, I went with MinnKota. The Motorguide was sloppy and it had a few issues. The biggest problem was it was underpowered for my boat. I have a Terrova now with I pilot and really do enjoy it but do not plan on ever upgrading to Link so that I can follow contour lines. From my experience, I will never go back to Motorguide but I can't say MinnKota is any better as my foot control broke within a year. Now, the Xi5 which is like the terrova gets great reviews so I doubt you would be disappointed with either. -
Creditmaster, If you haven't gotten this all sorted out yet, I would like to agree with SirWhite. Keep the braid on. It is a hell of a lot harder to kink braid or ruin it than it is a spool of mono. I have rarely had to cut birdsnests out on braid because they were that bad. I have on Mono because when it kinks, you lose a lot of its strength and that is where you will lose a fish. Granted, if you're only practicing it really doesn't matter. Now my questions: 1: What brand and model is this reel? People keep talking about mag brakes, but I have not read anywhere that this reel had mag brakes. I learned on a Pflueger patriarch XT and along with spool tension already spoken of, I originally set the centrifugal brakes (Little pins attached to the spool under the non handle sideplate) to 50% I can't remember if it was 3 on 3 off or 2 on 2 off) and than cranked the Mag brake to max. My distance was terrible, but I did not birdsnest all that much. When I got comfortable there, I reduced the mag brake a little at a time. When I got confident, I turned the centrifugal brakes to 25% and hovered around 50% on the Mag side. Now I wrote all this to say, not one company has the same brake setup. If you tell us the reel, I can probably walk you through how to set it up. That is unless its a Daiwa because I have never used one. 2: You say "Braid" but what brand and what pound test? That makes a huge difference because if it is too narrow (20lb braid is line 6ln test), it will dig in and cause birdsnests more frequently. I personally do not use anything less than 30lb braid on a baitcaster. Anything less and I have issues. I was at a fishing seminar on Saturday and JP DeRose was one of the speakers. He said he uses nothing under 40lb on baitcasters. If he requires lighter line, he will use a spinning outfit. Needless to say, there are many variables that come into play with bait casters. line size and correct setup or just two of the many. But I think they are the most important two. I've been using baitcasters for at least 5 years now and I still get overruns once in a while. If happens to everyone. Just stick with it and sooner or later you will see the benefits. Good luck, Adam

My boat is covered under my home policy. I pray I never need to you it but after shopping around last year, I could not find the level of coverage I have for near the same amount I pay. Even if it was a $100 more, I would have taken it. The one thing that really bother me was all of the other policies I found would onlyminsure me in the province I reside in. We have a family cottage on Lake St. Francis and it borders Ontario, Quebec and the United States. When I told the brokers that, I typically got the "can't help you" line. I one day want to go over to lake Champlain for their C&R bass season so until I find an insurance broker that will cover me year around and in other provinces/countries, I am sticking with who I have. Oh, and I don't have a lay up period.

All good points here. I run interstates and replaced mine after 8 years in the boat. They were charged after every use but just like Mr G wrote, and I only changed it because I didn't want to get stranded. I had left it at my Dads house and he decided to use it because his was toast. Guess what? left us stranded that very same year. If you get 9 years out of a battery, is $300 a lot? I don't use AGM and doubt most of the responses on here were about AGMs but if you can afford it, it is almost worth it to not have to service them. As for trickle charging the AGM, make sure your charger is rated for AGM batteries, many are not and it can really affect the battery.

I find super slick has its place in time. For the most part, I sti run regular PP on most of my reels. I would never run Super slick for pitching but it works great on my Jerkbait rod.
-
Honestly, I think it is more designed to be breathable and moisture wicking more than anything. I am with you and beleive that a regular shirt has about the same amount of sun protection so that part is marketing. The fact is, the clothing is specifically designed for fishing . They probably figured if we would spend a fortune on gear, why not market some clothes for it? I know I would prefer to wear a Comumbia UPF long sleeve than a cotton t shirt any day of the week. And yes, I beleive the Nike/Adidas shirts would work just as well.
-
I have a Columbia UPF long sleeve hoodie for the top and a pair of Under Armour guide wear pants. I will be trying out a Under armour Buff thing this year as well. Glacier glove also makes a glove for summer UV protection. I know a few guys that wear them and they say they are comfy. I just have not gotten to that point yet.

Tackletour has a 100 post count rule. It is to allow people to gain a perception of you as well as deter people who only want to take your money and scam you. If you think of it as a way for these sites to try and save you some grief later on it isn't that bad. As a seller, it sucks, but I would rather a forum try and do something rather than not do anything.

Oddly enough, I had the same issue for about three weeks. I knew I hadn't been banned so I tried to send an email to the site admin. Wouldn't even let me do that. In the last day or so, I was able to log back in on my iPhone. During this whole time, I was still able to view on the work PC running IE. And what is up with the Russian brides? Is that spam or did the admin decide that was a good thing to advertise. I get a kick out of it everytime I see it!

I thought that article was great! If the temp dips below 11 degrees, you better beleive I am wearing cold wheatger gear. I enjoy both fishing for fun and tournament fishing. I will never do it for a living and don't take it as seriously as others but I do enjoy competing against others. I've joined a local BASS club this year and will be doing 7 tournaments because I love the challenge as well as the camradery that comes with tournament fishing. You can be in the zone and only concentrating on catching fish but once the weigh in is done, it all about having some fun with your competitors. I watched the live feed on and off today and it was pretty cool. Congrats to Casy Ashley for winning the Super Bowl of fishing! Adam

I've posted it before, but I have alligator clips installed on mine and leave it out of the boat (they are heavy!!!) It takes 10 seconds more to hook everything up and get back into the house!
-
It's not needed but if you use your electronics often and do not make long charges, your cranking battery may never get fully charged. I prefer to just be careful and charge all three. I got a great deal in mine so I couldn't resist.
-
I have the mk330. It's gotta be close to 8 years old as I bought it used. It charges my deep cycles and cranking battery in less that 5 hours after a heavy day on the water. The cranking battery is usually charged within an hour but the deep cycles take a little longer because they don't get any charge from the main motor. All of the ones in the market today seem to be pretty smart and you don't have to play around with setting for wet or AGM batteries. You just have to make sure the charger you but is suitable for the battery you are using.

90% of my stuff comes from 1 store around the corner from where I live. He sells almost everything I need and has alright prices on most items. For what he does not carry, it is either a trip to SAIL or I order online from TW.
