Lakair in July with fish, friends, laughter and wildlife
Joey replied to Joey's topic in General Discussion
Thanks all, we had a blast. Yes Lew, there were two at Aikenheads, they flew by and landed way down at the south end, then one flew back. Had his mouth open the whole time for some reason. It wasn't that hot so i wondered why? Yes, got the goodies and they are pretty much gone now. Thanks so much and give Di a big hug for making and bringing them for me. -
I went looking for the resident snapping turtle to see if I could get some pictures of it, and saw it on the surface and started snapping pictures. Everyone came to see, but as we got closer, we all realized there was something very wrong The turtle had a rope tied around it's tail and it's head was missing, it was very bloated aswell. Wonder who would do this to a possibly 30 or so years old turtle?????? Very sad Look at those nails, that could hurt!!!

Lakair in July with fish, friends, laughter and wildlife

A hard day of fishing for Ralphie, and his lower eye got swollen this time. Both eyes swelled up either top or bottom from mosquitoes each night. We may have to go in August instead of June or July so he doesn't get so bug bitten. Another Frog Then we had a bunch of ducks come jump on the dock, and for some reason, they all took off the dock real fast later one, wonder why So, now onto my bird pics. Sorry if there are alot, but I enjoy finding and photographing them. BIRD!!!!!! Some other random shots and some sunsets So once again, it was a pleasure going up there. Leslie and Kevin run a top notch lodge. Thanks for the company and laughs Rich, Roy, J, Joe, Art and for a fleeting moment, TJ and Monique!! Lets do it all again next year -
We had planned to go back up to Lakair for a week with Roy and J again this year, and take my son Alan along as he had such a great time last year. Art and Joe joined us again and Rich hopped aboard much to our delight!! The weather changed from blistering hot and humid to a nice, sunny low to mid 20's for the week we were there, which was just fine by all of us. We started our trek up on Saturday morning and traffic was pretty slow, and then we found out why. This guy was having a bad drive for sure: Traffic was a bit better after that, except for the usual morons who go real slow, then speed up when you come to a passing zone Rich pulled in shortly after we got there and Paul and Alan helped launch the boat. Apparently they were not very good first mates as a short while later, Rich realized a very important detail to launching a boat had been overlooked Hey, we've all done it before!! Rich relaxing by the fire pit Rich was kind enough to offer to take my son Alan out so we were two in each boat. It worked out great and Alan made a new friend this trip. Thanks so much Rich! Roy and J arrived on Monday afternoon and got settled in and we had some laughs on the deck. Tuesday was very windy and we decided to fish from the dock while waiting for Art and Joe to arrive Buddies Art and Joe arrived safely and launched the boat TJ and Monique even showed up for a dinner one night, Ribs!!! And we spent a few nights inside due to the mosquitoes, but had a great time nevertheless. Ralphie loves it up there and got lots of attention. He also got lots of bug bites, but then so did all of us. Sooo, on to the fishing: Paul with a nice 46" er and the release. Caught with one of my homemade lures too Ralphie was interested in the release part and watched with interest. Alan got a really nice pickerel, but it was in the slot. Then he got his first musky, a nice 37" er. Now he's hooked Paul and I with a pike double header Dink perch instead of our target pickerel Some pike, of which we caught in excess of 50, and some random in the boat shots On to some wildlife shots. Here is a baby gar having lunch. It was cool to watch it turn the minnow around in it's mouth to swallow it. This little mink came right up to me while I was taking pictures. I also found it later eating a frog on the dock. Supper time!!!! Check out the teeth!! Then we had this snake go after a large leopard frog. The frog got away much to Ralphie's delight. He had never seen a frog before and wanted to play. The frog did not continued........

what song are you listening to right now???

Great tune B! -
What a monster. I don't think he is holding it out toward the camera, his arms are bent. That thing would weigh a ton and be too heavy to hold out. Looks pretty dang heavy to me and if that guy weights say 200 lbs and that fish is half the guy's size it could definitely weigh 72 lbs. The head of the fish even looks bigger than his head

Nice!

Very different indeed. Never seen one before either!

Happy Belated Dave. I, for one, miss your rants and I'm sure a ban on anyone who questions them could be put into place here should you feel the need to rant in the near future

Yes, indigo bunting, and a very hard bird to find and photograph. I've been looking for them ever since I saw one a week ago and confirmed what it was. They really like to hide in the trees so even on sunny days, I'm finding I'm having a hard time with my settings due to the shade of the trees and branches in the way. I think the one with the grasshopper is a sparrow if I'm not mistaken.

Another spectacular report Drew!

Have fun Joe!

Okay, thanks Raf.
-
Have you had problems with them or know who has Raf? I'm sure Steve would be very interested to know as he said I was the first one he received a complaint from.

Awesome pics and I love the video Simon. Especially you grunting about the weight of the fish in the net, even though you are not the one hauling it in
-
Well it's nice to go for a boat ride once in awhile too

As some of you know, I make my own musky lures, and recently posted a picture of some of the ones I made before our last trip to Lake Nipissing. During my order, I was advised by Luremaking.com that they had a new stirrup clevis, called a Double Stirrup Clevis, or essentially, an S clevis. So when making a double cowgirl, instead of using 2 clevises and struggling to put the blades on, you just need the one now. Here is a picture: I thought this was brilliant and ordered up a batch, made the lures and it was easy peasy!! Unfortunatley, these clevises did not hold up and broke in two places, in the middle, and at the end, and four size 10 and 12 blades are now at the bottom of Lake Nipissing. Now, not only did that upset me, but I now still had 8 more musky lures made with these clevises on them As soon as I got back from our trip, I contacted Luremaking.com and Steve was more than helpful. He asked if I could first send a picture of the broken clevises, then could I send both the lures back to him, at his cost, and he would get in touch with the manufacturer for me. I just received a box of lure parts to set me up for awhile: 100 regular stirrup clevices, 25 wire forms, some replacement skirts, the beads and weights from the broken lures and a credit for the shipping to him. I think that is fantastic customer service and just thought a shout out to them was in order. I have no monetary interest in this company, just a happy customer here. He even offered for me to send all the musky lures to him and they would take them apart and redo them for me. I declined that offer, but thought it was very generous on their part. So thank you Steve
