  1. Never underestimate the genius of the collective.
  2. Most books and magazines now only list the Canadian price. Many people did try to pay for items that had both a Canadian dollar price and a US price. This practice was met with varying degrees of success. A store does not have to sell you and item (bad PR and business practices aside) if it choses not to.
  3. I don't doubt that many places are trying to increase their margins with the increase value of the Canadian dollar vs the Yankee buck, and it burns me too. That said, the US minimum wage is $5.85 (American $) and the Canadian minimum wage is $8.85 (Canadian $). With with the bottom of the wage scale set lower most other wages are scaled lower as well. Start multiplying that by the number of employees and the other associated employ cost that have been mentioned above and a difference in prices to be expected. Whether that difference should be as high as they are is debatable. Canada has about a tenth of the population of the US that has a huge impact on buying power as well.
  4. How many days until this guy is awarded a million dollar contract to do creel surveys?
  5. I caught a snippet of an episode of Frasier (I miss that show) today. The character Bulldog made this conclusion: golf is not a sport because 1. No cheerleaders 2. No blood 3. The only cups are in the ground. Disclaimer: The proceeding statement was made by a FICTIONAL character on a television show, and does not reflect the thoughts or feelings of the person posting the above statement.
  6. Aristotle and Plato aside (I didn't realize this was a critical thinking forum, and my profs aren't on the board), I use the phrase when someone makes a wrong conclusion or uses an example that does not apply to an argument. My point was that to equate a speeder being aloud to drive after a paying a fine (not always the case) and a poacher being awarded a contract to count an animal population by a government was wrong as rong is. ... besides my dog is black???
  7. What do you use to cut the shaft of the "new" one-piece sticks? A hack saw would seem to work, but I thought I'd check first. BTW CTC has a sale on most of their one-piece sticks, thats why I sucked it up and finally bought one to complement my 25 year old aluminum shaft. Are their any NHL rookies in their mid 30s?
  8. Did anybody else see this in their "minds eye": "One deer" BANG!, "two deer" BANG! The final report submitted to the province states that there are "most likely more deer than reported but we ran out of bullets".
  9. A quote from the article: "We did everything that was legally possible. But you know it's like someone who is caught speeding, if you pay your fine we don't stop you from driving." More flawed logic
  10. Hope the link works. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home
  11. Flawed logic: Something is hard, therefore it must be a sport.
  12. Yeah, the government has never been wrong before.
  13. No and No. Why does it matter? It does not make it (fishing) any less enjoyable, for me or anybody else. Just because something is physically demanding or difficult does not a sport it make. Example: a radio contest to stand and maintain contact with a car. Not a sport. An essay writing contest can be mentally demanding (and physically if you have ever seen me type). Not a sport.
  14. 1. Many other members seemed to have a handle. 2. When I first joined the site I hadn't really lurked all that long, and didn't know what I was getting into and thought the anonymity couldn't hurt. No big deal. My canoe (Green in colour) was made by someone who put the name one it. I think I tried Canoehead and Mr. Canoehead, but I'm not sure now? Rob
  15. Blasphemy, one is trying to break from the ranks!
  16. We haven't clarified the ice-hut registration yet, don't give us (and the MNR) another problem. Seriously, there may be some interpretation and discretion on the part of a CO. Is there a negative impact? Attracting dangerous animals (bears). Nuisance animals (raccoons, skunks, gulls). Environmental harm? Minimal. I'd rather they go back down the hole than in a landfill. Not all municipalities have composting (green bins). Just some rambling ideas.
  17. Anybody been in the last few days? I have some time on Friday and I'm itchin' to go fishin' but not swimin'.
  18. Let's hope that "statement" doesn't come out in mid March.
  19. I think the ministry needs to learn how to write more clearly.
  20. I heard they used 2 Bon Jovi concert tickets and 6 pack of wine coolers to lure them in close enough for a photo.
  21. I do remember them. Le barons used to have them in their catalog (I'm sure many other places had them as well). I have not seen them for a 3-4 years however. Ebay might be an option.
  22. Barrie news just announced major flooding concerns. Information at 705 789 6421
  23. 11pm local. He's on the first half of the show.
  24. Three days ago I had drifts of over a metre in the back yard. Today, grass and over a months worth of dog crap.
