  1. The current Ontario Out of Doors (June 2016) has a one page article with some tips on boat batteries. One paragraph mentioned that with the all the electronics on board many boat owners were switching to a deep cycle battery for the starter battery. They did mention that you should be careful with the "largest motors" and that you should consult your owners manual. I've always used a starter battery and not had an issue but I only have one sonar unit, one livewell and a bilge running on the starter battery. I was wondering what others thought about this?
  2. Made it out for the first serious fishing trip of the year today. The forecast really looked too good for a spring trip but a day off is a day off. Flat calm and sunny at 6am, a bit of mist hanging over the water. Not a sound but the buzz of the baitcaster and the splash of the lure. A few really small pike early but the best fish were caught around noon once the wind had put up a very small chop. My brother caught half a hammer handle on a zara spook and the rest were caught on some form of suspending husky jerks. Nice feed of fresh fish tonight for dinner. My 4 year old daughter might be the first person to get some food from my brother's plate... ever. She cried a little but she got the piece of fish that she wanted. The two biggest fish of the day went back in the drink.
  3. Interesting that mlb players still get paid for these type of suspensions unlike hockey. And managers have zero recourse for their suspensions. No apeal no representation.
  4. Switch pitcher Venditte is back up with the Jays.
  5. It might not matter where Jose plays next year. A former player was talking about a bench clearing brawl he was part of back in the day. Batter is hit by pitch and next thing they know the pitcher and hitter are going at it and they all run out onto the field and pair up with someone from the other team. Not much else happened and after the game the player telling the story asked his pitcher "What was that all about?". The pitcher says that the batter hit a big homerun off of him 9-10 years ago but they'd been in different leagues since and that this was his first chance to "even the score". Little tougher for an outfielder and a second basemen to even things up but they won't forget it either.
  6. If that were the case. It would have been more entertaining to plunk José in the first game.
  7. Great response. Rays pitcher couldn't find the plate with a gps and they get stomped.
  8. If we accept the narrative that the bat-flip was such an egregious offence to baseball mores and that the Rangers and their fans feelings were so badly bruised hurt that retribution in the form of a baseball between the shoulders was the only revenge. Then that should have been taken care of in the first at bat... or game.... or series... or first game at home to appease those fervent Rangers fanatics. Nope. They waited until they knew they didn't have to face the Jays again and waited until the last at bat. And it wasn't that crybaby pitcher, who's neck is still sore from watching that ball rocket over the fence. He sure talked a lot back in October. He had his chances but didn't back up what he said. Big tough talkin' pitcher who doesn't have to bat was really quiet. The league now knows exactly what the Rangers are about. They look for the easy way out. I'm going to get tickets for the first game in Toronto next season.... I just hope someone without enough power and who is too small to play firstbase but with not enough arm to play anywhere but 2nd is still in the league.
  9. http://www.nugget.ca/2016/05/16/divers-do-part-to-keep-lake-clean For the last 15 years members of the North Bay Scuba Club have been pulling couches, chairs, barbecues, lamp posts and bikes out of Lake Nipissing. The tradition continued Sunday when six scuba divers put on their wet suits and jumped into the frigid waters near the waterfront marina. The scoured the bottom looking for dropped items. And they didn't come up empty handed. Wheelbarrows of garbage and rusted items were recovered. Every spring the club removes bins of garbage from the bottom of Lake Nipissing. They have also salvaged propellers from the water and returned them to their owners. Brian Baldwin, a member of the club since 1973, said it's amazing what is pulled out of the lake every spring, everything from plastic snakes, pipes, bumpers, windshield wipers, shirts, bottles and sunglasses. “We started to dive where the chief (Chief Commanda II) is parked and then we moved into the marina,” Baldwin said. “The visibility is a little rough because the waters are murky.” Club member Rick Taylor said the club has been contacted numerous times to assist in a variety of recoveries. “A few years ago we were contacted and various members went diving in Lake Nipissing near the Waltonian Inn to look for a missing person. They spent days searching,” he said. “The club has also been called to assist in finding a missing camera that fell off a drone. The camera had fallen in a quarry off Highway 11 North. The camera had dropped 70 to 80 feet and the owner was hoping we could assist.” The club has also been called to retrieve expensive sunglasses and help put the course markers in the lake for the North Bay Canoe Club. “We've been contacted for a variety of different things that involve underwater activity. It's our way of giving back.”
  10. I think they did respond and that's why they got ejected and face suspension and or fines. Odor was also behind his whole team as well. Not sure about the suspensions. A few games for position players and a handful more for a pitcher and that's about it. Although Gibson might get more since he was ejected earlier and returned to the field.
  11. Spikes down and on the bag? Jose should have hit him with his shoulder I guess. Dirty is sliding 4 feet to the side of the bag. Odor also tried to throw low as Jose came in. I'd put the first pitch in his first at bat right between his shoulders and then drop him as he came to the mound but that would be tough since Odor runs backwards while "fighting".
  12. Little guy or not, Odor may never get a chance to get a free punch like that again.
  13. When has a punch like that been thrown in the type of situation in a ball game? Jose knows what most of us know. A big guy, or even a regular size guy, can't get into a fight with a little guy because you can't "win". If you smoke the little guy, it's all: "Well sure he picked on the little guy". And if he lands one sucker punch, everyone acts like David took down Goliath. It's the reason little guys are always running their mouths. They think they're tough when it's really that they are just not worth it.
  14. Good job! The wind report for tomorrow doesn't look good for my plans, but I'm not sure I can wait until Friday.
  15. If you are a lure collector Len Thompson is raising money selling some spoons. http://www.lenthompson.com/fishing-for-fort-mac.html
  16. I little ray of sunlight shining on Lakair in 2009 I believe.
  17. I am not a fan of them in anyway but I believe they are considered a migratory bird and interfering, let alone killing them, could land someone in serious trouble with the feds.
  18. Been there. At least I've got hands.
  19. Marina staff said there was no fishing and that there was a bylaw. I'm going to the source. I also have a very strong suspicion as to what the marina will say, although asking them to cite the bylaw number might be amusing, better to see their face in person.
  20. Not invasive. They numbers were down significantly due to DDT use like many upper food-chain birds (osprey, eagle, hawks). With the virtual elimination of DDT use in North America the numbers of most of these birds has been increasing for the last 20-30 years. Not sure if the numbers of double crested cormorants are higher now than in the 40's and 50's but the large flocks and the amount of damage they do on their nesting areas is a concern for many. Many of our lakes (the Great lakes and the large ones near big cities) are cleaner now than they were in the 50's and 60's and I wonder what role that might be playing in the large numbers. The lakes are also clearer in part to being cleaner but also due to zebra mussels and that might also just make it easier for the birds to see and chase/catch their prey.
  21. Damaging property is wrong and can/should be dealt with. Wronging claiming to own water that you don't isn't the way to do it.
