  1. title says it all
  2. Nice fish .. good too see our team adding up the inches
  3. Very sad news .. my condolences
  4. I havent got out as much as I would like (wind and rain)but have found the days I do get out I seem to catch more .. or should I say my son catches more
  5. last couple weeks been getting them from 6-18 ft of water ...there is also a ramp at Austins Park .. between Naticoke and Port Maitland .. there are lots of shoals out there .. go on a Saturday and you will see where other boats are fishing .. it will give you an idea where the shoals are .. good luck finding a favorite spot .. there are plenty of them out there
  6. Yup .. toss crankbaits or bounce jigs off bottom
  7. what a beauty fish .. cant wait to get out to St Claire
  8. Headed out last Sat for the opening of Bass season .. our annual bass tourney started out rough with the lake getting too rough for my 14' tinny .. decided to hit the Grand instead and wasnt disapointed .. got a few cats and was outfished by my son yet again .. he got 4 walleys to my one .. this is my biggest cat from sat didnt get out into the lake on Sunday either .. managed a few small walleye and a couple cats .. didnt get out again until Tuesday .. only had 3 hours to fish because of the shift I was on but managed to get my personal best 5.15 lb smallie(20.5") .. unfortunatly it engulfed the tube and didnt make it tried to get out Wendsday morning but after 2 waves made it over the front of the boat I decided to head back in and get some sleep .. Got out Friday evening again and got a 4.585 lbr .. Sat morning I was hoping to get another high 4 pound fish to put me in contention for the big prize .. didnt get anything big but my son Dawson managed to get a 2 ponder which was his biggest for the tourney after a fish fry at my friends place we went to the hunters and anglers club at 3 for the annual awards .. ends up my bass was big enough to win me 2nd place for big bass .. first time I ever won anything at the torney .. it was only 75 bucks but it covered the beverages for the week (well almost) ... hopefully next year more will enter the tourney as the numbers were down from last year
  9. glad to hear you had a great day .. wont be long until she is outfishing you
  10. the question is how many times has he got away with it .. what a
  11. I normally use smaller crankbaits in there (fat raps, walleye divers, hot n tots) .. some use worm harnesses but I havent tried it yet .. if the troll is slow you can find some drop offs and try jigging for them .. if its your first trip out in the boat make sure you have ALL the safety equip. .. the OPP have been out there alot checking boats for licences and safety equipment as far as hotspots the walleye are everywhere .. I try to troll in the 10-12 ft .. good luck
  12. Erie for some monster smallies ( I hope) .. forecast doesnt look good
  13. good report .. I am going to have to make it out next year
  14. Like you mentioned the lower grand .. troll for eyes or you can get some big cats down there .. there is also port Maitland (mouth of the grand) for perch .. or get into the lake for some smallies (thats where I will be this weekend)
  15. you could use a slip bobber stop
  16. I was there Thurs as well ...I only managed 1 sheephead for the day .. first time this year I didnt get atleast one walleye .. the OPP have been out alot in the lower this year .. make sure you have all your safety gear on the boat
  17. My son asked me what I wanted to do for fathers day and I said fish of course .. we headed out to port maitland and got there around 6:30 .. got some minnows and tried for perch .. two hours fishing and only a sheephead to show for it .. decided to hit the river for some walleye .. the morning produced a lot of sheephead some big cats and one walleye for my son Dawson practicing the trophy pose with a minnow from the bait pail Dawsons first of the day my biggest cat of the day the afternoon bite heated up .. landing 5 more walleye, a few more cats and a few more sheephead (within an hour and a half) .. even gave my son a try at driving the boat before we left .. Dawson ended up getting his personal best walleye at 5 lbs .. and outfished me yet again
  18. I cant bring myself to do it either .. but when you think about it they have the same diet as a walleye .. still cant do it though but I know a few who have tried it and say its ok
  19. Crankbait .. in the firetiger variety
  20. Had the weekend off so decided to do some fishing .. headed out Friday afternoon and hit the Port Maitland peir .. its amazing how many sheep head there are in one little spot on the peir .. the pic didnt turn out (too dark) but there were tons of people filling their buckets and coolers with them .. I was targeting perch.. managed to get 9 keepers .. fished the peir again Sat morning (2 hours) and got another 7 keeper perch (quite a few dinks) .. there were hitting hard but just not in thick yet ... hopefully by next weekend .. decided to troll the river since the perch werent cooperating .. the first trolling pass I ended up getting 2 pics and a channel cat .. not a half hour later I got a few more .. ended up getting 5 eye's, 3 channels, and 5 sheetheads ... went to a friends place but he wasnt home (Mudcat festival weekend) so I headed to his inlaws and couldnt get a parking spot for the van and boat so i went back to his place anyways .. cleaned up my fish and decided to have a little walleye fry after a feast and a beer I headed back out to the peir .. got another 7 perch for the table .. again the sheepheads were getting slaughtered .. Sunday morning I started trolling early .. didnt get any keeper walleye but did catch a few cigars which is good for the future of the Grand .. managed to get 4 sheetheads, 4 channels (even a biggen) .. a smallie, and even a rockbass realeased this one in front of my friends daughters bobber .. she was fishing in the Mudcat kids derby next weekend going to get my son out for some perch fishing .. hopefully they will be in thicker by then
  21. had the same problem till last week when I put the boat on stands so I could pull the trailer out to replace the bunks .. the center support was bowing the center of the boat .. realeased the preasure and found the keel was cracked .. when it was on the trailer you couldnt see it but whe the preasure was realeased it was clear as day .. my advise would be to lower the trailer tongue as low as possable .. place jack stands under the transom and raise the tongue so the boat is off the trailer (dont forget to remove the rear transom straps)... support the front of the boat and lower the trailer so the boat is only supported by the jack stands ..and inspect where the boat sits on the supports .. ya never know it just might work for ya
  22. Franzen .. back the next shift .. cant take it dont play (he is getting good at diving.. good thing its an olympic year) Osgood flopping around like a fish outa water .. what a display of sportsmanship .. if it wasnt for the Detroit Defence blocking shots and stoping the Pens offence Osgood wouldnt look so good now would he .. heck with the defensive play of Detroit Raycroft would look good Roberts might be old but he plays with alot of heart .. if half the pens team would play with his determination they wouldnt be in the trouble they are in now hopefully the Pens can pull it together at home
  23. spent Sat morning fishing with my son .. didnt have too much luck .. got a few small eyes 8" long .. should be good to get them again in a few years ... my son was happy catching small bugs and playing with the tie ropes went out this morning on my own since he was spending the day with his mom and within 5 min a huge strike .. line peeling off .. thought it was a big cat but it ended up being a rather hungry 31" carp managed a eating sized eye and a sheethead .. heading out again next weekend to Byng park .. hopefully get into some cats as well
  24. get her to cut them up before ya head out
