  1. EDIT: I just realized I posted the Train station photo already so I deleted it and changed the title of this thread. Sorry... This one I messed up. I forgot to adjust my white balance so everything was blue. I just removed all colour and processed the hell out of it.
  2. I was a roofer for many years. Rickster is absolutely correct. I have installed the heat cables (i hate them) but they are safe and they work. It is, however, only a cover up for the real problem. Remove and replace the ice up insulation and add another layer and you should be fine. As for hydro consumption. I have no idea, but you don't have to have them plugged in 24/7. Just plug them in until the ice is gone. When you start to notice the ice building again, plug'em back in. If your in a financial position to do so then have a roofer come look at your ventilation. As SlowPoke mentioned your attic should always be the same temp as it is outside.
  3. Very nice Dan. I like the way the snow looks like it is going to fall off the tree onto my desk.
  4. You Left??? (shakes head) Why would you do such a silly thing..... oh wait. no tech jobs, forestry in the crapper, rest of the population leaving as well, -643 in January,... Stop me anytime.. haha
  5. This shot was 9 exposures. I wanted to try focus bracketing with 3 different exposures. It probably wasn't the right subject for focus bracketing but it turned out OK. Most of the HDR peeps don't care for the gloomy over processed look. But I do.. haha This next shot was only 3 exposures. I think it turned out decent as well.
  6. I couldn't control myself, No clouds but I went anyway. I got some decent shots before the rain. I will go back and get the same shots when the clouds are right. I'll post in another thread
  7. Nice shots Dan, I have been wanting to try an HDR of the Gov. building. Nicely done. If we get some good clouds this afternoon I may head over there. I love the over pass shot. HDR really highlights the dirt and graffiti. haha Here is one I took last week.
  8. If FTA ever goes back online I may catch the replays during the week. DAMMIT! Glad to hear GSP and Chuck won. I figured Chuck would win because he was hungry. I also picked GSP with little uncertainty. From what I read on UFC.com, sounds like GSP owned him much like he owned Kosschek or GSP vs Hughes 2. I agree, GSP is one classy dude. Good on him.
  9. I have a couple. I will scan and post later tonight. They are not from Nipissing though. They were caught up here in the TBay region. I am sure it doesn't matter where the fish were caught as long as they are blue.
  10. Yes very sad. It's natural selection at it's finest.
  11. Definitely wouldn't want to get hammered up and fall into that tree..haha
  12. Well said! Probably the best response to this subject. It is not just rural areas. Here in TBay the cops shot an estimated, 400 lb sow out of a tree in my buddy's back yard. Well within the city. It fell out of the tree, bounced off his shed and landing in his neighbours yard. Just to give you and idea of how 'within the city' he lives. This was last spring. No mention of it in the media anywhere. I know tons of people who have done exactly what Bernie has mentioned. numerous times. The bears keep coming, and they keep knocking them down.
  13. Will a water hardened egg still last with a lot of freeze thaw cycles? I don't use an entire fish worth of roe in a season. For instance, I get roe in the fall for the next spring. I cure the eggs, rinse, and store in the freezer until spring. I tie a bunch of sacks, enough for the spring fishing. Usually 3/4 of the eggs are used up in the spring fishing. The last bit are used in the fall. The cured eggs seem to be fine with pulling in and out of the freezer multiple times.
  14. I use salmon roe for steelhead. They are normally lighter in colour. I also cure my eggs in a salt solution for 24 hours in the fridge. I am not sure I lose colour but my eggs are some what transparent as you mentioned. I tie them in an orange netting and they look just fine. They seem to work fine for me. I use yarn as well though so thats what I rely on for my attractor. I have seen those powders used to cure/dye roe. I have never bothered to try it as I was worried about scent. A lot of people use Borax to cure eggs as well. But again, does this change the scent of the eggs? I kinda like that food colouring idea while still using a salt solution. I may give that a try next fall. What do you use to cure roe? (question for everyone)
  15. I am pretty sure it is a mooneye or possibly a goldeye. They are similar and both found in Ontario. MNR site says goldeye are found in Northestern Ontario.
  16. Apparently I played 20 games in the nfl. 1994 9 games for the LA Raiders and 1997 11 games for the New Orleans Saints.
  17. I always look forward to the ice. But not the same ice as most of you. I will be climbing my preferred ice not fishing through it. Gave up ice fishing long ago.
  18. My wife tells me there are fishing rods in this photo...HERE I can't see them.
  19. Here is how we fix the Leafs. We feed them the same breakfast Tucker eats everyday. Nails and rebar!
  20. Kinda reminds me of the ole......"pissst, the colour is blue, pass it on" by the time it gets to the last person the colour is... "a ford mustang flew off the bridge" Good idea but stories have a way of getting twisted out of shape the more they are told. I like the letting the air out of the tires idea, only if your sure the tires belong to the poacher and not another law abiding angler. If I returned to my truck with no air in the tires. People would get thrown in the lake. haha
  21. "Donny" isn't the only one. There is a whole friggen pack of them wolves. We have at least one here in TBay area. I am not mentioning names as I fear for my safety..haha But he is a prick and I would love to punch him right in the face! I NEVER break the law but yet he feels he needs to give me, as well as others, a hard time. I knew sleeping with his daughter in high school was a bad idea..
  22. Go with Garmin GPS 76CSx. It has a colour display and a more efficient processor that MAP 76 in B&W which means your batteries will last longer in the colour unit than B&W. You can buy all the maps you will need as well as metro guides which give driving and All point of interest information. There is a company out of Quebec that makes a wicked topo map collection for Ontario. They are very detailed. I haven't gotten lost since. I even managed to find some previously unlocated lakes. It has a barometer so you can track weather. You see the pressure drop quickly. Get the @#&$ off the lake. If your a climber it also has a barometric altimeter. It's handy. Electromic compass. Handy but finicky. You have to be moving for it to work properly. Basically it has everything you will ever need and more. I even found the alarm clock super handy will on vacation. Moon phases to tell you when the best times to fish, if you bother paying any attention to that crap. I can't remember if it has a power adapter or not. I never bother to look. 2 AA batteries last me about 24 hours so I never bother to get concerned about power consumption. My 2¢
  23. I am heading up a new catch and release program in P.E.I. Clams can be a very rewarding catch. But even more rewarding is the release. Knowing that that little clam will live another day and skirt water on someone else's foot, as they walk on the beaches of P.E.I, is a feeling only attained when releasing a big hen steelhead or Brook trout. below is a photo of a couple 1 ounzers I dug and successfully released.
  24. Skinny dipping doesn't bother me. It sounds like the pike and musky are after a larger prey than what I can offer...
  25. LOL @ Scuttlebutts cougars. So true!
