    COFFEE

Many moons ago, back when I was serving in Her Majesties Navy, we had large coffee urns (probably 25 gallons each) in the galley of the ship that ran 24 / 7 to accomodate everyone who worked around the clock. It never was what you would call good coffee, but it served it's purpose when nothing else was available. One of the urns developed a strange taste at one point, so they decided it was maybe time to clean it out. The basket to hold the coffee could be reached from standing on the floor, but to look inside the urn, you had to climb up the counter, and when it was emptied and the cleaner looked down inside, he found the remains of a rat. Seems one of our lads had gone ashore at some point and possibly consumed slightly more alcohol than recommended, had found a dead rat on the jetty and brought it aboard ship and deposited it the coffee pot......for whatever reason. The lads often did strange things when they went ashore after an extended tour at sea I still luv my coffee and probably drink far more than I should, I'm just very careful to never drink any that's been made on naval ships anymore
  2. If you like to burn your baits fast, the higher gear ratio would probably be your best bet
  3. You'll never go wrong tossing a Suick.
  4. Always nice spending time with you & Paul, Joey, and the fish pic turned out excellent, and congrats again on that one, it's a real beauty......guess that'll be enlarged & hung on the wall ?? Good to hear you enjoyed yourself, but with the crew we had down there this weekend, it was hard not to have a great time. Here's the picture I took of you & Paul on the dock last night. See you guys next year.......same time, same place And Wayne, I've heard em all, bud
  5. I lost my brother (and favorite fishing partner) last May so that really put a damper on my fishing spirit this year, but I still got out a fair bit and have boated 85 muskies to date. I'm leaving here in about 30 minutes (2:00 AM) for a 4 hour drive to meet up with some fishing buds for a couple more days on the water and hopefully add a couple more slimers to the total. I won't put a rating on this year, but it's been OK and I've fished with some good friends, including a couple for the 1st time.....Wayne, DEG & mistyjr See youz all on Monday
  6. Thanks for the update lundboy, that's good news for those that live in the area, as well as those of us that enjoy spending our recreational time in those beautiful surroundings.
  7. Thanks for the request Holdfast, that video is one of the best there is for paying respect to those who fought & died for the rest of us. Should be required viewing for every school in Canada.
  8. Mid Atlantic musky Photo taken by Terry..............sorta
  9. The cruise appears to be working fine now, so I'll leave it as is and see how well it works on the long drive this weekend. If there's any more problems, I'll take it to the dealer next week. Thanks all
  10. Don't worry Steve, when those pics were taken I was only doing about 20K, infact I was passed on the shoulder by an old lady on a bicycle equipped with snowtires
  11. 30 # is pretty light for throwing heavy musky baits Andy. Go heavier and it'll reduce your chances of snapping it on a backlash. Muskies aren't the least bit line shy, so no need to fish the smaller diameter. I only use 65# PP for casting and have never had it snap on me yet, but most guys are casting with 80 # and get as many fish as always.
  12. Thanks for the info Kevin, and hopefully you can get this stopped before it's too late. I like your neighborhood just exactly the way it is right now, and I'm sure future generations will too.
  13. Thanks Raf, it was on my way home last night that the problems occured, and the roads were in fine shape by then, definetely good advice though. Hopefully it was just the slush
  14. I think yesterdays early season snowfall in the Barrie / Midland / Collingwood area caught alot of drivers off guard and there were a few scary things happening on the roads. Most folks had the common sense to slow down abit, but too many others figured it was fine to continue on their merry way at 120 K, as if it was still July on a deserted road. Most folks were avoiding the northbound left lane near Barrie because it was pretty well buried in slush, but at least a couple guys flew by me like I was parked, including one tractor trailer driver that figured his delivery was more important than anybody else's saftey. He went by me at a speed I would consider dangerous on a DRY day. It's gonna be snowing alot around here very soon, please put some decent tires on your car and slow down when necessary.......the life you save could be my family. Thanks boyz
  15. Thanks Glen, but it was definetely turned on, I even tried it in "tow haul" mode to see if that made any difference, but nuthin. Maybe a loose fuse ??...... hmmmmm, I'll check that when it gets a bit brighter outside
  16. Wait'll you see me when I'm having a LOUSY day
  17. On my way up to Penetang yesterday morning I drove thru all that snow, ice, slush & slop, then parked the truck all day, and I don't think the temps got above freezing. On the way home last night down the 400, I clicked on the cruise control but it wouldn't engage, infact I tried it a dozen times over the next hour, but nada. I took the truck out earlier this morning and tried it again, and it worked fine, although I never got above 45 KPH I can't imagine why, but is there ANY chance it could have somehow been affected by the slush up under the truck last night ?? I'm assuming the cruise is strictly an internal component, but now I'm not so sure. I'm heading to Windsor this weekend and want the cruise working for the trip, and even though it's covered by warranty, I'm hoping to avoid a wasted day at the dealership. It's a 2005 Safari....any thoughts ?? Oh and BTW, this thread is fishing related, because......umm...... I was coming home from a fish'n trip when the problem with my truck occurred.....yeah, that's it
  18. You may get a few different opinions on this Mike, but myself & most of my fish'n buds prefer PowerPro with a fluoro leader......80 pound for casting & 100 for trolling works well and 130 pound fluoro goes good with it. Myself, I like Seaguar fluoro, but again you may get varying opinions on this. You also need good terminal tackle to go along with the line & leaders and I find Stringeze snaps are about the best around and Spro makes excellent swivels. You can buy fluoro in bulk, but it's expensive at close to $70 / 50 feet, or you can go to JB's and buy a couple leaders already made up. Brian can set you up with everything you need there.
  19. Shoulda called me Andy, I coulda swung by & picked you up
  20. Another awesome day has come & gone Wayne, and as usual, it's always a pleasure to spend another day on the water with you. No fish this trip, but that's never mandatory for a good day of fish'n anyways. It looked chilly out there, but it wasn't really as bad as it looked, infact I don't think I even put my coat on till about 2:00 or so when the temps started dropping again. The drive from Penetang back to the Smoke this evening was a heck of a lot easier than the drive north at 6:00 this morning, cept for the fact that my cruise control decided to take a vacation ...... Have to get that fixed tomorrow before I head to Windsor this weekend. Here's a couple shots of the hiway up around Barrie about 7:00 this morning Sorry Wayne, but I had a good shot of you in the boat , at least I thought I did, but it never showed up on the camera. Oh well, I'll take 2 of you next time to make up for it. Thanks again for another great day Wayne, the pleasure was all mine
  21. No fish......lotsa snow......tons of laffin Now I gotta go find some grub !!
  22. I'm outta here shortly and heading north to spend the day with Wayne on G-Bay, lookin to see if any big girls wanna come out & play on this beautiful fall day. Looks like some snow up that way, and it's gonna be breezy on the big water, but even if we don't get what were after, were still gonna have a great day. Talk to y'all tonight
  23. Don't worry about it Wayne, I'll probably be at your place by 4:00 tomorrow morning and have the snow all shovelled outta your driveway by the time you wake up. Just leave a thermos of coffee on the porch beside the shovel
  24. I often think alot of folks spend far TOO MUCH time sleeping and in my opinion, that's nearly as bad as not sleeping enough, and I'm sure many would feel better if they got up and got going, rather than laying in bed for 8-10 hours a day. Not saying that's YOUR problem Gerritt, but I think it's a problem for many. Even when I was working, I'd be up at 2 or 3 in the morning and head off on a 20-30 mile bike ride nearly every day before heading into the hall, and I'd do this 12 months a year, no matter how nasty or cold it was outside, and like Dawg says, I never felt so healthy in my life and I did that right up into my 50's. Even now that I've been retired for 7 years, I'm still up nearly every day by 3:00 AM.....hence the "Lew O'clock" ......and have most of my stuff done around here before anyone else is even awake. Maybe it's not for everyone, but more folks should try it sometime rather than laying in bed cause they THINK they need more sleep. When you WAKE up.....GET up
  25. It's funny, but in all the years myself, friends and family have owned outboards, which is at least 50 years that I can personally remember, I don't recall ever hearing anybody talk about changing impellers, and I can definetely say that NOBODY has ever had one fail on them, and some of these motors were ancient. It's only the last few years that I've been on this board, that I've even heard mention of it. My bud has a 9.9 Evinrude that's gotta be pushing 30 years old and it still purrs like a kitten, runs all the time, and still has the original impeller. Infact, I honestly don't think he's even changed the lower unit oil. Not saying that's a good thing, but it almost seems like the newer units aren't made nearly as strong or dependable as the older models, as today, we hear constantly about somebodies impeller breaking down after only a couple short years. Maybe our throw-away society now includes outboards too
