Anyone here who hasn't left for the fishing show yet?
lew replied to Joey's topic in General Discussion
I herniated my disc while trying to lift a large generator off a truck by myself, but it was really strange, because I never really had any pain in my back at all and it actually started in my hip but over the course of a couple weeks I could feel it gradually working it's way down my leg and it finally settled in the shin on my right leg, and if nobody has experienced the feeling, it's hard to describe how incredibly painfull it can be. Before my surgery I had to start walking with a cane to try and relieve some of the pain, but I vividly remember one day at the trailer and I was out very early in the morning trying to go for a bit of a walk for the excercise and the pain became so absolutely incredibly bad I couldn't move anymore and actually had tears in my eyes and had to lean on the cane to stop from falling down. I stood there in agony for 5 minutes before somebody saw me and was able to help me back to my place. Thankfully my operation was a total success and I owe it all to a fantastic surgeon and I've never had a re-occurance or any more associated pain since then, but I have so much sympathy for anyone going thru a similar injury. -
Thanks for that Eric, I always enjoy reading your fishing tales when your out in the boat in the middle of winter.........good stuff !!

I caught something on the news this morning where in a CCG ice breaker is gonna bust out the ice jams and get the water flowing outta there. Always a shame to see peoples homes getting damaged like that.

Congrats on the new truck Ted and hopefully you'll be very happy with it. I spent alot of time driving different Ridgelines last year and I was always very impressed with everything about them. There's just something special about driving down the road in a brand new vehicle

The only bad deal I saw was the prices at the snack bar. They must be insane if they think anyone is gonna pay $3.50 for a lousy bottle of water and I decided I'd go thirsty before I payed that. It's too bad when they put on a good show, but then try to gouge people in other ways

I was there yesterday from 11-4 and it was about the quietest I think I've ever seen the show, but it made it nice for wandering around . We took a break at 1:30 and sat in on the Pete Maina seminar & that was excellent The only thing I picked up was another 13" Double Cowgirl with the twin #13 blades for $36 but other than that, there wasn't too much I needed. Good show.

We've got a trailer up in the Kawarthas and the Mrs. and I will be headiing up there the beginning of May and won't be coming home again until the end of October. It's gonna be nearly 6 months of fishing, or sightseeing, or maybe just sitting under the shade trees and just doing whatever the heck we want, when we want I'll be heading off to the West Arm of Nippissing for 7 days of musky fish'n in June , then Diane and I have a nice waterfront cottage booked in another location on the West Bay area of Nippising for another 7 days chasing muskies in August. I'll also be getting slimed on the Ottawa River for a few days .....probably July, and then another musky trip is in the works for the mighty St. Lawrence River. Lots of other fish'n trips will also take place, but they'll be spur of the moments decisions. Life is good !!

Really sorry to hear that Joey and hopefully it isn't too serious. No offence to anyone on this board who are offering advice Joey, but I'd wait and see what the doctor recccomends before you start making appointments with anyone. I herniated a disc at work back in 99 and it sounds very similar to what Paul is going thru with the leg pains and was caused by the disc compressing the sciatic nerve. The doc tried a few meds 1st but that didn't help, so we then tried therapy, massages and then chiropractor, but none of it worked and I was in agony for months. Finally the doctor decided that the only thing that would work would be surgury and I wish now I'd gone that route much earlier. I had the surgury on Friday, was up walking on Saturday and home on Sunday and within a week I was back to 100% and totally pain free. Always lots of good advice offered here on any subject, but for something serious like an injury, I'd let the doctor make the decision. -
I hope you find what your lookin for, cause from alot of recent threads about CTC sales, it seems many folks are heading to the stores only to find that nobody is carrying any of the advertised sale products......me included

A friend of my daughters used to build incredible custom motorcycles and he went to every Friday 13th Port Dover g2g there was. Sheri rode down on the back of his bike a few years ago and said it was a fantastic day and a must see for anybody into bikes.

Might be better if we just meet up at the show Mark, as I think we may be there most of the day and into the evening, but plans may also change thru the day and I can't be sure.

Yes, that's a beautiful mount and will look great on the wall. I've also got a couple mounts on driftwood and it sure makes everything look better and much more natural than laying on a flat board..

Squid and I will be there at 11:00 and will probably spend the whole day wandering around and taking in a couple seminars. Anybody else gonna be there today ??

Good to hear Kelvin, and it'll be a pleasure sharing the coffee and early mornin fire with you as always It'll be nice to finally meet you too doubleheader.

Absolutely Woodsman, and I was thinking the exact same thing and impounding the rescue unit would be no punishment at all for the driver in question. I think we'll see some changes in the system after that incident as far as removing certain vehicles from service.

Thanks Roy, and my forgetfullness also explains why Diane is the one who always looks after paying all the bills around here

OH OH, it appears that I'm the moron that didn't uphold his promise to Rick and I feel absolutely terrible about it and apologize wholeheartedly to everyone involved for my stupidity. I made out my cheque way back in December but it seems I somehow forgot to mail it and only just realised it 2 hours ago. I was telling my wife this morning about your post douG, and saying that Rick appeared to be on the road to recovery, and Diane said that it seemed strange that my cheque still hadn't cleared the bank. Well that got me thinking, and I started rummaging thru a bunch of papers I have here and sure enuff, there was the cheque that I'd written still sitting exactly where I'd put it 2 months ago. Rest assured though, that the cheque will be in the mail this morning, and I'll also contact Rick and explain things to him too. As Nanook says......it must be an age thing Again, I apologize to all involved

I'm not knocking teachers, or any other profession, but I've said for years that strikes that seriously disrupt the lives of other people shouldn't be allowed and there are other ways to settle contract disputes. I think it's just insane when school boards, transit systems, garbage collectors, water services etc etc etc are allowed to walk out and totally screw up the lives of the very people that are paying their salaries. A perfect example is the recent York University strike that screwed up the students for 3 months. It's basically over now, but alot of those students have lost their job opportunities for this summer and the money they were counting on for next years tuition. In my job as a fireman we weren't allowed to go on strike, and the politicians would sometimes seem to use that to delay contract negotiations and force us into arbitration, but in the end we usually came out OK. Were in the 21st century now and I think it's time we come up with a better solution to wage settlements that don't totally screw up the lives of all the innocent people that are caught in the middle of the disputes. I always find it interesting that the politicians never have the money to pay the workers, but everytime THEIR contract comes up for re-negotiation, a bag of cash seems to drop from the sky. Intersting discussion, I hope it doesn't turn bad.......

Harry was only expressing a personal feeling about something, so I see no need to try and publicly embarass him for it. He's entitled to an opinion just like anyone else around here.

OK, I just got off the phone with Kevin a few minutes ago myself and he asked me to pass this information on to everyone that's coming to the g2g. As mentioned by John, Kevin has a group of guys that come up every year for the bass opener, which is the weekend of the 27 & 28 this year and they've already pre-booked their cabins for that weekend. All Kevin has for the weekend of the 27 & 28 is a couple of the small 1 bedroom cabins and he says they'll probably get booked soon too, so if you want one of them, you better call him ASAP. Most of the campsites are still available for the 27 & 28th though The weekend of the 20 & 21st is pretty well wide open for cabins & campsites so far, which is the weekend we normally go up. I just booked my regular campsite for the entire week from June 22nd --29th to be sure I get in a full week of musky fishing which opens on the 20th. Only 4 more months to go and I'll be in my home away from home.

My boat also sits in the water all season, but about once a week I use a fairly soft bristle brush and scrub the hull & motor and it keeps it pretty clean. Whenever I pull it outta the water to head to a different lake, I use a spray cleaner called Super Clean from CTC and that does an excellent job. After 10 years though, it definetely has a bit of a light green stain that seems to be on there permanently.

Don't forget me TJ

Unfortunately Roy, if Lakair can't handle our group as always and we have to spread folks around the area to different lodges, it kinda defeats the purpose of the g2g It's 3:35 AM right now, I wonder if Kevins awake yet so I can book my spot while there's still a few available
