  1. I've got a Home Depot & Ronas equal distance from me and have always preferred Ronas, but now a Lowes has opened a branch right behind Ronas. I just finished hanging 11 sheets of drywall and called all 3 stores the other day for a price on the drywall plus delivery and all were approximately $12 a sheet. Ronas & HD wanted $60 for delivery & Lowes wanted $75 to deliver the same load. I went to the local Home Hardware lumber yard and got the sheets for only $10 and they delivered them the next day for $50 I saved $32 over Ronas & HD and $47 over Lowes. Maybe give your local lumber yard another call
  2. I was a hard working union member for more than 30 years but seldom get involved in these union threads because they never resolve anything, but your comment was one of the most un-informed and ignorant things I've read here in awhile.
  3. All the best my friend & here's to a speedy recovery.
  4. Funny how everyone says that eh ?? Just kidding bud, that's a beautiful lookin pike !!
  5. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Bernie, some nice old machines there !! Back in the early 80"s my 2 buds & myself decided to get into snowmobiling and went out and bought 3 old junkers, but boy, did we have some laffs on those things. I had a Ski Doo Silver Bullet, one bud had an Evinrude and the other bud had a Suzuki. Don't know what years they were but they all ran half decent and we had a blast on them. We ran them for 2 years then we all bought new machines, but then with the fancy new rides, the wives all decided they wanted in on the action too, so we all had to buy more new ones for them I think we each paid about $100 for the clunkers but it made for a couple fun winters on those machines that we still laff about all the time.
  6. Jacque, give Shimano a call at their head office in Peterboro, 705-745-3232 and explain the situation to them personally, rather than an email. Their great folks to deal with and I've never had a problem with them before, infact I don't recall ever hearing of anyone getting a hassle from them. Maybe you just had the wrong person reading your email
  7. You got that right Wayne, I bought a new Dodge Dakota pick-up in 2001 and in the next 3 years they replaced the multi switch 4 different times under warranty. I told them to stop replacing the stupid thing and figure out what's causing all the problems with it but they basically said it's easier to throw them out and stick a new one in again. I got so fed up with taking it back in for repairs so many times on the same thing I sold it as soon as the warranty ran out.
  8. Best of luck with the new show Jamie, really looking forward to seeing it. Diane & I are coming to Ottawa in the near future for another weekend, maybe we can all hook up for dinner.....I'll let you know when.
  9. Always nice to see the finished product of someone who knows their way around the workshop. Great job !!
  10. Now THAT'S what you call a day of bass fishing !! Well done boys !!
  11. Hey Pete, if you were any kind of pal you'd ferget about the Niagara trip this year, grab your paint brush, and come spend that weekend with me. Lotsa painting for everybody
  12. Harry, it sounds like a few of us should go in to the drywall / painting business together
  13. A few years back there was an old couple, both in their 80's, who used to jig a weedline every night at dusk and I'd always stop my boat & chat with them for a few minutes on my way out night fishing. One night I came across them and they were both looking over the side of the boat with a flashlite, obviously upset, and they told me the old boy had dropped his favorite fishing pole in the drink and couldn't find it. It was nearly dark by now and they were gonna head in to their cottage which was close by. Early the next morning I headed to the spot he'd dropped his pole and with the sun shining I was able to find it and snag it with a big treble hook. I headed in to his dock and when he saw me he came down to see what I wanted. I held up the fish'n pole and as soon as he saw it he started to cry and said he thought he'd never see it again.......and that was one of the happiest moments of my life He offered me a reward, but of course seeing the old boy so happy was reward enuff.
  14. I'll be passing this year Roger, infact this'll be the 1st one I've ever missed, but I'm re-doing the whole house and am gonna be busy for awhile. I've even put all the fish'n gear away for the season.
  15. I've dealt with the Peterboro office a few times and they've always gone way overboard to accomodate me and rectify the problem. I broke a rod once, 100% my carelessness, and they replaced it without question, and a couple times they've repaired reels for me without charge. If they can't find a replacement tip,I'm also surprised they didn't just offer a new rod, even with a small replacement cost.
  16. Maybe we can work a deal Dara
  17. I feel your pain bud, I'm just getting ready to hang 11 sheets of drywall, then re-paint the entire house, then lay down new flooring. I enjoy doing the drywall & hardwood, but not the painting, infact I think I'd rather be doing anything else
  18. And don't forget about carbon monoxide while burning those logs inside your shelter.
  19. Never heard of Tackle Industries or their rods before, nor have I ever found the need for a triple XXX rod, but hopefully it'll work for you. Not sure why you sold off your other rods though, cause now what are you gonna use for your smaller baits ?? Only my opinion, but I think you'll find that new pole will be far too heavy & stiff for anything but the heaviest lures. Sort of like your proverbial 8' pool cue with very little flex. Good luck with it though.
  20. Atta boy Simon and congrats of the 1st musky, the uphill climb is over now
  21. Dam, Steve, that's terrible news, Sonny was a great guy and so young for this to happen. Condolances to both you & Jen
  22. I don't want to be out of line here, but if you don't know how to use a mast, boards or electronics, perhaps your not quite ready to be a charter boat captain yet ?? I'm thinking guys spend big $$$$ when chartering a boat in hopes of a successful day on the water, but if the operator isn't experienced in ALL aspects of what's going on, the clients may be spending money for nothing more than a boat ride. I may be wrong here, but that's just the way I read your post
  23. When I first went on the job way back in '68 we were making $100 a week. Seemed like good $$$$ back then
  24. Another Shimano fan here, Calcutta CT's & TE's and Tekotta 600's for trolling. Best if you tell us your price range and target species and it'll be easier to figure what reel will work best for you. As others have mentioned already though, best to buy good quality now rather than starting off cheap and regretting it down the road.
  25. Good to hear I'm not the only one having this problem
