  1. Portable heaters, whether propane or catalytic, are great tools that work well, just remember to use common sense and leave an opening that'll allow a constant supply of fresh air to replenish what's being used up.
  2. We do several 2 day trips a year, each one usually a couple hundred miles from home, and rather than hauling the tent and all the gear, then setting up a camp for such a short time, we just book motels in the area and can usually find something nice for anywhere from $60 - $75 ..........just stay away from a certain motel in Lancaster......... Nice cheap trip, plus a comfortable bed & good grub at the end of the day.
  3. Yup, farms are a great option for winter storage. My boat spends the whole winter hi & dry INSIDE a barn and it only costs me $150 for the entire season. Lotsa farms offer outside storage but many also have room inside the barn, so a person could save some serious money by going for a country drive and knocking on a few doors.
  4. Paris Marine just south of Lakefield may be able to help you and if not, they could probably suggest someone who can. http://www.parismarine.ca/
  5. Any day is good for me Phil, just lemme know when.
  6. Mornin boyz I got up at 2 this morning, just can't see wasting my life sleeping
  7. Another thing to watch for in a policy is that some companies will not cover damage to a stored motor caused by freezing temps if you winterized the motor yourself. They want them winterized by a qualified marine technician.
  8. Thanks Jocko, you've got some great pics there !! I missed your original thread with the pictures of the Lancaster but I'm assuming it's the one based at Hamilton ?? I've seen that old girl flying many times and she's still extremely impressive to watch. Seeing as you have an interest in old planes, you may like this picture. This is my Uncle Len (Mom's bro) about 1939. He used to deliver the Air Mail around Ontario in this old bird, although I don't know what make of plane it is. According to my Mom, he used to fly outta Buttonville airport north of Toronto. That old plane looks pretty rickety to me and I know for a fact I'd never fly in anything like that, but I spose things were different back in the day. I have no idea what he's holding in his right hand, but I'm guessing it's something to do with the plane.........any ideas ?? He joined the Canadian Air Force at the outbreak of WW2 and became a bomber pilot. Sadly he was killed in action in 1943 along with his entire crew when the plane went down.
  9. WTG Roger, that's a couple nice fish. I think I have every Believer colour EXCEPT chartreuse , so maybe I better get one for our upcoming December trip
  10. Well done, she's a beaut !!
  11. I used to do alot of winter mountain biking and found the Lobster mitts to be the best choice, both for dexterity & warmth. Their as warm as good snowmobile mitts but the extra finger makes it easier for changing gears & working the brakes. Actually makes doing just about anything easier than mitts. I don't ride anymore but still use the mitts all the time even when just hiking thru the woods with the pooch on cold days. The good ones are expensive but worth every penny. Just something else to think about.
  12. Thanks George, I gassed up at the Tilbury station last year too.
  13. Your right Mike, it's getting tougher all the time to make those long 401 trips. We were fishing down at the Ontario/Quebec border last month and noticed 3 more rest areas / gas stations along the 401 were gonna be closing as of September 30/09 (I think that was the date) Those small town gas stations & restaurants are gonna be a nightmare next summer when they have all the tourist traffic trying to gas up or get food. I'm heading down to Lake St. Clair near Windsor next weekend, leaving Toronto @ 2:00 AM, so maybe I better carry a couple Jerry cans of gas along with my thermos of coffee for the trip, although it's not quite as bad down that way..........yet Here's the governments answers to a few of the questions. http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller...swers.shtml#twp
  14. I've never tried the Slimy Grimy Bernie, but I hear it's also a good product. It seems like the algae slime gets a better grip on a fiberglass boat and it's a lot harder to remove compared to aluminum. I tried the usual cleaners on the glass and they didn't work well, then I tried a pressure washer and it did nothing either. I used this new product and it cleaned it up instantly.
  15. Walleye Central has a good classified section for boats Steve, but not sure if that's what your looking for. http://www.walleyecentral.com/
  16. I started using this product to clean the green algae off my boat hull this summer and it's by far the best hull cleaner I've ever used. All you do is brush it on the stained areas, wait a minute and then rinse it off with your garden hose and it comes up like brand new again. My boat sits in the water all summer so it gets alot of crap on the hull but I clean it every couple weeks and it looks great. The one I use is strictly for fiberglass but they have them for aluminum too. I bought mine at Hastings Marine and other than them I have no idea where to buy it, but if you can locate the product you should give it a try. I have no affiliation with the company, but just wanted to pass on an idea to anyone who may be interested and is getting ready to clean their boat after the season is over. http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userp...=on+off+cleaner
  17. That's quite a coincidence Norm, cause the home we were moving out of that day was on Robins Ave which runs east off Coxwell, the 1st street south of Gerrard. You were only about 1000' away from us...........heck, you coulda stopped by and helped us pick up all our stuff that was getting scattered all around the neighborhood by hurricane
  18. My folks had a brand new home built in Don Mills (Toronto suburb) and October 15th / 54 was moving day. Like Roy, I was only 7 years old but I remember that hurricane very clearly and can still see our things blowing around the neighbourhood while the movers, the neighbours & my parents tried to hold it all together and get it on the truck. It was a wicked storm that killed more that 80 people in Toronto that day. I've gone thru 3 more hurricanes since then and I think that's enuff for any lifetime. Scary stuff.......
  19. Actually guys, this really IS a good morning, infact it's a fabulous morning, cause today is the 43rd wedding anniversay for myself & my wonderful wife Diane. Life is good !!
  20. Don't worry about the 25 years Brian, it'll just fly by..........well, maybe not
  21. Mornin boyz Mike, we fished the St. Lawrence River east of Cornwall for a couple days last month and had we known you were working the area, you coulda joined us for few hours on your lunch break
  22. Thanks everyone, it was indeed a great summer. I seldom take musky pictures anymore and post them here even less often so I'll not be making any fishing reports. I'll be fishing with Pete again Mike and will arrive early on the Saturday morning, so I'll see you & the rest of the gang then. Sorry Ron, but I'm done for the year up there, but will be back in May. Unfortunately, all my fishing trips this year messed up my plans for the meetings as I was away for the last 3 but will hopefully make up for it next year.
  23. Howdy all My wife and I headed for our little hideaway in the Kawarthas early last May and we just got home last night after the best summer either of us have ever had. We spent the last 5 months just enjoying life, laying around being lazy and a fair amount of travelling. Infact, so far this season I've towed the new boat 2500 miles to different fishing locations. As usual, I spent 7 days at Lakair on the West Arm of Nippissing with the OFC gang in June, then Diane & I, along with our best friends of 35 years, went back up to Lakair again in July and rented a cabin for another week and had a fantastic time. In August, Diane & I along with 3 other couples rented 4 cabins at Memquisit Lodge, also on the West Arm and had another absolutely excellent week. Squid & I also fished Quinte in May, the Ottawa River in July and the St. Lawrence the beginning of October. I"ve had a great musky season so far, although I haven't landed any real bruiser yet this year, but we've still got a couple months to go yet. My one big project I had this summer was to put a roof over my deck at the lake and it turned out pretty good. I put louvered blinds all around so now when it rains we can stay outside and still enjoy the fresh air. I spent a huge amount of time in the new Skeeter and absolutely everything about it is excellent and I don't have a single complaint about anything. It handles big rough water with ease and the smooth ride of the fiberglass far exceeds any aluminum boat I've ever owned. The 150 HP Yamaha pushes the boat at 51 MPH (83 KPH) and the hydraulic steering is effortless, even at WOT. Sure is nice not have to content with steering tourque anymore. I'm also very impressed with the 60", 80 pound thrust Minnkota Fortrex bowmount. Even in strong winds it pulls the heavy boat with absolutely no problems. The huge amount of storage is excellent and the rod locker under the front deck easily holds all of my musky rods too which is a nice way of keeping everything outta the way but also very accesible when needed. It's also nice to finally have a boat where I can carry the big Frabil without it constantly being in the way. The disc brakes on the trailer making stopping on the road a breeze too. I'm sure glad I changed my preferrences and decided to go with the full windshield and standup, convertible top. I've spent farrrrrrr too many years freezing my butt and being soaked to the bone in my tillers & side consol boats. Now that my wife has retired, were gonna sell our home here in Toronto in the spring and buy a home in the country like we've always wanted. We've had trailers up near Lakefield since the early 70's and that's where were gonna move to. Anyways, that's enuff of my rambling, but I just wanted to stop by and say howdy and let my fishing buds know I'm back in town. I hafta admit though, it sure ISN'T good to be home in the city after laying around the lake all summer
  24. Well, it's finally that beautiful time of year again, the van is packed and me & the Mrs are outta here tomorrow morning at 8 A.M. for our little hide-away in the Kawarthas and we won't be back home again till mid-October Nuthin for the 2 of us to do for the next 5 1/2 months but enjoy my new boat, plenty of musky fish'n, or just lay around under the shade trees and enjoy life. I'm going to Lakair for 7 days in June for the g2g and I'll see a bunch of you there, then a few of us have another 7 day Nippissing trip booked at a different location in August. There'll also be a couple more musky trips to both the Ottawa & St. Lawrence Rivers and where ever else the roads lead me. I'll probably have to come back to the Smoke a couple times taking care of business, but they'll just be quick trips and I'll head back north as fast as possible. I seldom take fish pictures anymore, but I always have my camera just incase. So have a great summer everyone and stay safe on the water and I'll see y'all in the fall
  25. Hey Kevin, keep June 22nd open and we'll go put the 1st Nippissing musky in it
