    New Rod

I've always thought that if you need to buy a sensitive rod just to feel the fish biting, your after the wrong kind of fish
  2. Now you tell me
  3. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went down to Peterboro this morning and stopped in at the local concrete dealer and he recommended a product called Quickrete. He said it would be a good idea to drill a couple holes and insert bolts although not absolutely necessary and I could also drill a couple more holes just to anchor the mixture. I followed both suggestions, then built a small form and added the Quickrete mixture. Let it sit for a bit, then removed the form and wiped it down with a damp cloth. Looks like it's gonna be a good repair....fingers crossed. Says to keep it damp for 48 hours so I've got a damp cloth laying over it for now. Thanks again for the ideas.
  4. OK, thanks
  5. Morning boys I'm having glass panel railings installed on my front porch but I have a small concrete repair to do 1st. I removed the old wooden railings yesterday and all the main support posts were drilled thru the bottom and set on top of steel rebar that was embedded in the concrete. I cut the rebar off flush with the porch floor but on the corner of the porch the concrete was cracked and loose and when I cut the rebar the corner broke away. You can see the cracked corner on the left under the post It's not a big piece but I want to fix it properly before installing the new railing. Here's a pics of the break First, what's the best product to buy for this reapair, I'll just need a small bag And second, should I drill a few holes into the break in order for the new concrete to go into the holes and act as an additional anchor ?? Appreciate any thoughts
  6. Just different types of ships, that's all.
  7. Absolutely outstanding Mike !! Reading these kinda tales early in the morning is always a great way to start my day, thanks.
  8. I've been fishing for around 60 years and find PowerPro to be about the best I've ever used and can't see any reason to change at this point. Got it on all my reels, both spinning & casting. To each their own...
  9. My brother and I were up there for a week back in June of '96 and without a doubt, it was the best smally fishing I've ever seen, infact it was incredible. There was a heavy Mayfly hatch that year and the bass were gorging on them and we'd just toss Skitterpops into the Mayflies near shore and would get bass on nearly every cast. Course that was June so it won't apply to September but it may boost your confidence nonetheless. There were steel boats cached on several different lakes and you carry a gas can and small outboard with you and just basically hop from one boat to another as you changed lakes but none of the portages were very far. Best part was there was no road access to any of the other lakes and the only boat ramp was Lost Lake so we basically had the entire lake system to ourselves and we never saw another boat for the entire 7 days, although that may no longer be like that now. Can't offer anything for this time of year other than to say it's a great lodge and if it's still owned by the same family your gonna be treated very well and will definetely enjoy your stay.
  10. Bernie grows French Fries in his garden ?? WOW, talk about a green thumb
  11. Dale never claimed this to be a record fish, everybody else did. The man just caught a big fish, took a couple pics of it, along with some measurements, and put the big girl back in the water to swim another day. Seems everytime somebody catches a huge musky the same tired old arguments start all over again. When that fish was 1st caught the story and pictures were on every musky website. Some just congratulated the angler on a nice fish while others, including a few members from this site tore the guy apart. One of our members in particular basically called the man a liar because he didn't take pictures of the tape measure beside the fish as proof, even though the guy said he wasn't looking for a record. Some guys are pretty pathetic actually.
  12. My schedule is pretty flexible Steve, just gimme a day and a time
  13. I saw that mount at the Musky Odyssee a couple years back and it really was a gorgeous fish and something for Dale to be proud of. As for the World record, I honestly hope someday folks will actually go fishing for the fun of the sport and forget all about who caught the biggest fish.....who really cares ?? It's an argument that's been going on for decades and some guys actually seem obsessed with it. Musky fishing is fun and it's too bad so many can't realise that.
  14. That hour or 2 after sunset is some of the best musky fishing you'll ever have Steve, infact it can be really amazing. And another fantastic time for muskies is when the sun 1st breaks over the horizon on a cloudless morning. That sudden burst of light is just like a trigger for the fish but the window doesn't last too long so you have to be on a known spot when it happens.
  15. Muskies stay active after dark right thru the entire season Roger and you'll get as many in late fall as you will in early June. Keep your baits big and black and move them slow, but even slower in colder water. Large spinnerbaits with big silver Colorado blades are your best bet as they'll hold the slow moving baits up higher and they also give off lotsa thump. Big 10" wobblers like jointed Believers or Jakes are also excellent but keep them slow too. You'll find alot of your night time hits will come right at boatside as soon as you start your figure 8 so be sure to do it every cast. Muskies like very shallow water after dark all season long, and if you can find pencil reeds still growing that's a great place to start. If there's big rocks or stumps mixed in it's even better. Don't be afraid to go in extremely shallow, we get plenty of fish in as little as 12" of water including bigger fish. I've got at least a couple 50 inchers in less than a foot of water. As Roy said, keep the boat clean and know exactly where all your tools are at all times and always keep everything in the same place so you can grab it without looking. I like a headlamp myself but I only turn it on after the fish is hooked. Night time muskies are 100 times more fun to catch than daytime fish but it's also much more dangerous, but if you pay attention to what's happening around you, your gonna have a blast. Just remember though, tools are much harder to work with gloves on and if you get a big hook thru the glove and then into your hand you'll have a real problem so take the gloves off before you stick your hand into the net. And if you have followers in the daytime that won't commit, mark em on the GPS and come back after dark and there's an excellent chance you'll get em, spring summer or fall.
  16. A neighbor just up the road from me heard a rukus out in the front yard the other day, then the pooch started going crazy so she went out to have a look and found her dog nose to nose with a momma bear while her 3 cubs looked on. The lady let out a yell and the 3 cubs scampered up the nearest tree with momma close behind. She then grabbed the pooch and put him in the house, got her camera and took this picture of the 4 bears in the tree, although the 3rd cub is hidden behind momma. Not really big news, but kinda unusual at 2:00 in the afternoon. Anyhoo, just thought some may find it interesting.
  17. Very nice Roy, beautiful markings on that fish !! I also like the set-up for the DownEasters too....pretty slick.
  18. Well done boyz, a bunch of real purty fish there !! Hope you leave us a few for October
  19. Atta boy Steve, great looking fish for sure !! Sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset
  20. Looking forward to netting your biggest ever musky for you Art
  21. I dunno Mike, I'm retired and I don't have a care in the world either, but at least I put my pants on when I haul in the anchor
  22. I don't have any, I gave them all to you
  23. Thanks Steve, I'll be doing my best to put both my daughter and my wife on their 1st 50"er each this trip.
  24. Yeah, those folks 100 years ago sure weren't thinking too straight
  25. Wonderful news, congratulations to your whole family !!
