Ask for separate bills of sale for the boat, motor and trailer; use realistic values for each. You’ll be charged tax on the trailer value, when you transfer it into your name. Then eventually RevCan will be looking for tax on the boat; after the registration has filtered to their level. You don’t have to pay tax on the motor being it’s a private sale. KEEP ALL YOUR RECITES it could be a couple of years before RevCan comes knocking. Dan.

Here’s the reply that I finally received from the Ministry about trailer tires VS automotive. He’s not saying which are better; but clarifying the highway traffic act in regards to what tires are not allowed. So legally run whichever you want, as long as the tire is rated for the weight. Dan. Ministry of Transportation Carrier Safety and Enforcement Branch 3rd Floor, 301 St. Paul Street St. Catharines ON L2R 7R4 Tel.: 416 246-7166 Fax: 905 704-2530 Ministère des transports Direction de la sécurité des transporteurs et de l’application des lois 3e étage, 301, rue St. Paul St. Catharines ON L2R 7R4 Tél.: 416 246-7166 Téléc.: 905 704-2530 August 10, 2012 Thank you for your email regarding trailer tires, I welcome the opportunity to respond. In reading your e-mail, I notice that you are installing tires on a trailer that have a “P” rating. I also notice that you are aware of the weight rating of the tire and the capacity that you intend to load onto your trailer, and that overloading is not going to be an issue. I can advise you that the Highway Traffic Act does not speak to what type of tires are mandatory on a trailer. The tire markings that are not allowed on the highway include: “not for highway use”, or “farm use only” or any other wording or lettering indicating that the tire was not intended for highway use. Again, thank you for your interest in road safety. Yours truly, Original signed by Bob Lickers Enforcement Program Advisor

Yea the jello shooters are usually a big hit with the woman; we used those small paper cups, like what you see at Mickey D’s for ketchup. Mix whatever flavor of jello with about 1/3 the water subbed out with vodka or tequila; sell them for a buck a shooter or 2 bucks for three. Another thing that seems to get a lot of attention is take a large plastic garbage can, like those Rubbermaid ones. Large enough that it takes the whole length of your arm to reach the bottom. Put 12 or more cans of beer in the garbage can; marking the bottom of one with a magic marker. Fill the can ½ to ¾ full with ice and then fill to the top with water. Now charge a buck or two for a chance to pull out the marked beer can and win whatever prize you attach to it; no they don’t get to drink the beer. LOL It sounds kind of goofy but there was always a line up of people waiting to stick their arm in that ice cold water. The bonus part of this game is that the clean up crew at the end of the night has some nicely chilled beer to drink. Dan.

Yes the technology that got the thing there is amazing; but what is/was the true reasoning behind the US for wanting to go? Almost every new discovery has been funded by greed; almost. Christopher Columbus got his money from the Spaniards; them thinking they were going to get a shorter trade route to India; they didn’t give a rat’s A that he found a whole “new” continent. Now I’m just talking about the people holding the money purse; but any real benefit to the human race will be a spin off, not the true reason for getting there; whatever that may be. Yea I know I’m a cynic. LOL Dan.

Mike. Are you sure you’re going on a canoeing trip? I ask because this tent to me looks a lot like another shelter that was used a few years ago? Have a great trip and stay safe; yup a lot like the Lunar Lander without the base. LOL Dan.

You lucky bugger you; a nice day, your daughter as company and a nice fish to boot; can’t ask for any better Brian. Enjoyed the read and pictures. Dan.

Just a heads up for you guys running automotive tires on your trailers. I haven’t found a regulation as of yet that states a trailer rated tire must be used; I’m waiting for the MTO to reply to that. But I have spoken to a number of insurance appraisers/adjusters and they have had claims denied; when there was an issue (blow out causing damage for example) with an automotive tire being on a trailer. So even if it is not a legal requirement that a trailer tire is to be used; you may find that you have voided your insurance for any personal property damage, because of. Don’t believe me; call your insurance company and I mean the company not your broker. I know what you might be thinking, how can they deny a claim when (if?) it is not illegal to use them. I just finished suing my old insurance company because they denied a theft claim on my son’s car. They said that if they knew the vehicle had the “performance enhancements” installed, they would not have insured the vehicle. We won the case because it was a restored 79 Firebird that made it appealing to the thieves; not the nitrous system. Yes a nitrous system is legal to be installed on a street vehicle; as long as the bottle is turned off and cannot be turned on from the passenger’s compartment. Dan.

Maybe a 12 volt power inverter connected to your tow vehicle. Plug your on board charger into the inverter and charge the boat’s battery bank as you drive? Match the electrical draw of the battery charger to the output of the inverter and it should work fine. It'll mean connecting an extension cord securely between the boat and tow vehicle; but what's one more thing to plug in? But then again I don’t know how far you tow; but it would still work anytime the tow vehicle is running. Dan.

Not sure how happy the fish were Brian; but I know there’s a pile of them that are likely hook shy and won’t touch another orange floating Rapala. LOL Dan

We kind of have to wait before booking anything; don’t know what my brother’s health will dictate in a year’s time? Dan.

With my brother not being able to sit in a vehicle for the 17+ hours drive to Nakina, we opted to fly out of Toronto too Thunder Bay. Because the commercial flight only allows 50lbs of weight, we fedex our dry goods, tackle and poles to Thunder Bay. It was cheaper then paying the commercial airline’s extra weight and oversized baggage fees. Once in Thunder Bay we picked up our rental car at the airport; drove around the corner to the fedex terminal and collected our stuff. Unpacked our collapsible coolers; went to the grocery store to buy our perishables. With a couple bags of ice the food was ok during 3 ½ hour drive to Nakina and Lower Twin Lakes Lodge, where we spent the night and used their freezer too freeze all our meats. The next morning we packed up, drove to the Nakina air base and waited for our flight out too camp. Because it was just the two of us, the flight from Toronto was comparable cost wise then if we drove; only splitting the gas two ways. The rental car was about the only thing that wasn’t cost effective; having it sit for the week at the air base. But we did have the freedom of our own wheels and no real schedule to follow; other then being at the Thunder Bay airport for our 3:45 flight back to Toronto, Sunday afternoon. The people at the Best Western in Thunder Bay held out fedex boxes until Monday for pick up. I had preprinted the return labels before we left home. It was just a matter of calling fedex Saturday night; giving them the tracking number and the location of the parcels. The boxes were back here at my shop Tuesday morning; a bit beat up but everything inside survived. Dan.

Hey it was your help, map and log that you so graciously offered up that got us onto to fish as quickly as we did. I studied the map and log to point that when I got on the water it was like I’d already been there. I brought up a few smaller laminated maps that we could take out on the boat, along with an erasable marker. We would plan out our day the night before, mark it out on those maps and then there wasn’t any of “where do you want to go” thing happening. I left those laminated maps there at camp for others to use; but yours came back with me. Thanks again Rob and your 32" Walleye camp record is still safe; well that's until I get back up there that is. The place is addictive! Dan.

Yea but I inverted the map before I posted it; if anyone follows it they’ll find themselves in James Bay. Dan

Yea that was defiantly our honey hole. It is different fishing that body of water; I’m use to doing a troll at .5 to 1 mph but not there, anything below 3mph on the GPS and we were just washing lures. By the time you’d add the boat speed and the current speed the lure is seeing something like 4-6mph and that was the speed they’d hit at. And like I said when they hit it was like a fright train didn’t have time to set the hook because the drag on the reel would be just screaming and you’re turning the boat to go chase after before you’re spooled. My rye bottle took a beating those two nights celebrating my PB walleye two nights in a row. LOL Dan.
-
This is the best shot I have of the 31” man what a rush getting it into the boat. Before anyone asks Yes it was kept; the fish had literally inhaled the lure and it was bleeding pretty badly there was no reviving it. I felt bad about taking it in but it did feed the six of us that night. Dan.

We were able to go quite a ways up stream and we could have likely gone further but I just didn’t feel comfortable in the fast water. I marked the map with red lines as far as I dared go. One of the others tried going past the North West set but turned around after tagging a couple of rocks. Dan.

Well what can I say about Beteau Lake and Eddie’s camp that the others haven’t already said? Getting to Nakina was uneventful; our flight from TO to Thunder Bay, the rental car and our gear at fedex all fell into place with nothing missing. Get to the air base Thursday morning; met the other 4 guys that will be at camp with us and started loading the plain. My brother checking out the view; can’t believe how many small lakes, rivers and streams there are. First look at Eddie’s camp from about 2000 feet. Our home for the next 9 days; it didn’t matter to me which cabin we had as long as the screens were good. Man were the mosquitoes bad; you didn’t dare stand still or you’d need a blood transfusion by the time they were done with you. It didn’t take long for the camp mascots to come out of hiding and start begging for hand outs. Here’s my first pike of many, I didn’t get into anything real big they all averaged at about 24 -30 inch. He’s Moe’s biggest pike of the week at 37”; he was quite happy and it was the largest caught that week between all six of us there? The picture is a bit blurry; I just picked the camera out of 4 inches of water that was in the bottom of the boat. He’s me showing the proper horizontal hold. I still don’t understand what these little guys are thinking when they hammer a lure half their size? The walleye average size were around 16 -20 inches and there were no shortage of them But there are some monster walleye in there, I landed one at 25 inches and 8.6 lbs and another at 31 inches and 11lbs. Man these guys hit like fright trains and fought like they were pike. The 31 almost spooled me; I had to chase it down with the boat to make some head way. This is the pic of the 25 inch; my camera was still drying out from its bath and my brother hasn’t sent me the picture of the 31 yet. This is the Rapala that did all the walleye damage for me; after the lip broke off, we thought it deserved a place of honor in the lodge. Being that it brought in a walleye 1 inch short of tying the camp record that Rob (Walleye Wonderer) set last year. The weather the first few days was almost unbearable with the heat & humidity; but after a very large thunder storm rolled through the one night, things cooled off and the fishing picked up 100%. Yes even on Beteau you can find some slow fishing days; but when they turn on it’s unbelievable with numbers and size. Thanks for the read. Dan.

Hey Everyone I only have a couple of minutes, while the generator is on and I’m so happy that things are coming together for the fish-a-thon. Like I said the genny is only on for a bit here at the camp, I’m on the Atawapiskat at Eddie’s camp right now, so I’ll keep it short. Ryan there’s 250 dogs and 200 burgers; you got too keep count man. Hope that the little freezer works out on site to keep drinks cold after the food’s been pulled out? Have fun everyone; I’m not missing next year’s event; not going to plan any form of trip around this date that’s for sure. Dan.

Thats the way Ive felt for a long time; just transportation; likely due to repairing the things for a living for so many years. But then last fall I found something that sparked my interests again. Ive been driving this old Chevy all summer and having a blast. The picture should read Styleline Deluxe. LOL Dan.

I would make sure that she doesn’t touch any of the gear; not even hold a rod for one of the kids while they do something like get a drink from the cooler. That would constitute fishing and if a CO is watching he could lay charges; he’d have to be a putz but he just might be one. For the cost of a temporary conservation license why not get her one and then if mom wants/needs to help the kids there won’t be any issues. Dan.

Kind of reminds me of the West Arm, when the slot was first introduced. Then West of Hwy64 was a different zone, which didn’t have a slot size. So you’d catch a legal fish in let’s say Warren Bay; but you’re staying east of 64, cross under the bridge to go home and now you have an illegal fish in your possession. We were never stopped but I always wondered how that conversation would have gone? Honest officer we were over there; but you and the fish are now over here. I guess it would have been a judgment call on whether the CO believed you or not; I guess this CO didn’t believe your buddy? Some official finally clued in and made the whole area the same zone. Dan.

These are likely the connectors for some form of accessory that on your application is not there? Things like a power trim gage/meter, voltmeter and or keyed power for instrument panel? Call the manufacturer of either the boat or the motor depending on where this harness originates from and ask (likely have to buy) for a wiring diagram. Dan.

People at the trailer park laughed at me for installing a ceiling paddle fan on my wooden awning above my deck. Guess where they’re sitting on a hot summer night when the mosquitoes are out in full force. They can’t believe how well it works; let alone the nice breeze coming from it. Dan.
