What is Wrong with People.....Updated Good Guys Win

You know if this guy would have actually contacted Mike, via a PM or phone; Mike would have likely supplied him with all the info he wanted. He sure helped me, when my brother and I went to Beteau Lake. Dan. -
When filleting bass, you should be removing what we have called the mud-line. Don't know what it's really called: but it runs up the center of the fillet, starting at the tail end and goes about 1/3 the length. I believe that little bit of mussel, is what can give bass that harsh flavor. Dan. Not a very good picture.

I wonder how the protester would of answered this question? Why do animals (including fish) eat other animals??? Dan.

Only if it was the last two spots and you were wanting one. LOL Dan.

10 pounds per gallon X's how many gallons? That puts a lot of weight in a boat, that's sitting on a trailer; only supported in a few relatively small areas. Dan.

No we were on the west side of Bell Island. Its a fairly long island with tons of large saddles in and around 20 FOW, that all look like great spots; but only a few really produce. Dan.

Here's the other side of the coin; we were invited to fish along side another boat. We were fishing Lake Mistinikon and found a nice walleye hole; didn't have a GPS then, so I dropped a marker over the side. That night we head over to the spot, to find an elderly couple fishing where the marker was; as in the marker is not there anymore. No big deal as we start to make a wide berth around them; thinking we go back later. The next thing we see is them waving us over? We pull up beside them and it turns out they were locales and had seen us put the marker out earlier that day. They said they have been fishing that spot for years and didn't want the marker there, for everyone to see. They gave the marker back and told us to tie off to their boat, as it was firmly anchored. Well me had a great time with them and we all easily limited out; before the sun went down. Most nights for the rest of that trip we'd meet up with them at that hole; we called happy hour. Dan.

It's not just fisher people that do this kind of dumb stuff. I'll park my 50 Chevy at the far end of a parking lot; no other cars around me. Come out from wherever I was and find another car parked so close to me; that I've had to get in through the passenger side. Dan.

All I have to say is PAINT BALL GUN. LOL Dan.

There are closed end pop rivets, if you cannot get to the hole from the inside. Not as strong as a regular rivet, that needs to be bucked. So I would bump up the size of the rivet to get better clamping force. If by chance this damage is a crack; it would be good to drill a hole at either end of the crack. That will usually stop the crack from growing longer. Dan.

Thinking of buying a fishing lodge....need help!
DanD replied to birddogman99's topic in General Discussion
#1 I/we never wanted an american or a modified american plan. I want to eat what and when I want. So for me housekeeping cabin/cottage is what I look for; when searching for a new place. #2 I've been to drive in, boat in and fly ins . It depends on what our needs and wants are when we're planing a trip. The place we've been going to for the past 5 years; is a drive to with-in an hours distance of a hospital. My brother has been fighting cancer and we need to plan for an emergency. The last fly-in we were on, he was in remission and got the green light from the doctor; we've not been so lucky the past few years. He's not able to go on the trip this year; but he's still fighting! #3 16 foot aluminum boat with electric start, 20-25 hp 4 stroke, bilge pump, nav lights, basic graph, trolling motor, pivoting cushion seats and a floor. That IMO is the ideal small lake/river fishing machine and is the description of the rental boat we use at the lodge, we go to. #4 Only ever hired a guide once; that was a few days into our trip to a new to us lake and we where not having much luck finding fish. Guess what; he took us to all the same spots where we had already been and still no real fish to be had. All we got from the guide was "you guys should have been here last week". LOL #5 If we find a place with decent fishing, the accommodations and equipment are OK and the lodge owners treat you decent; we stay put and re-book for the next year's trip. We usually will make the decision to look elsewhere, if one of the requirements fail two years in a row. Dan. -
I can remember watching the Port Dover fire department washing down the dead mayflies on the streets. Especially the hill leading down to the lake; cars couldn't make it up the hill, it was so greasy. Cars trying to go down; well it was like hang on Mable, we're going for a ride. Dan.

Turn a lawn sprinkler on the truck for a few hours. That'll moisten the bug guts and what's left of their carcasses. Then hit the truck with a power washer; may not all come off on the first try but a lot easier then scrubbing by hand. Dan.

I think a combination of both makes a great report. Watch the vid or read the text and everyone gets a bit of the story. On the weekends at the trailer, it takes forever to watch a video (dial up) so I read the text. At home I watch and read the whole report. Dan.

That will likely trip a code and set the light. The direct injection systems are not anything like the multi-port systems that ran at 60psi fuel pressures. Direct injection pressure ranges from 290psi - 2200psi and can hit as high as 3100psi before a pressure relief valve will open. When dealing with 2 fuel pumps and these high pressures, there are a number of checks and balances that are constantly monitored. Disconnecting the primary low pressure pump; the primary pump control module will not see the voltage drop it's expecting and send a message to the ECM (Engine Control Module) which in-turn will likely trip a code. Dan.
-
With so many systems being monitored on today's vehicles, by the different modules (computers). I'm not sure where I would connect a kill switch; so that it wouldn't set a code or trip warning lights on the dash? Plus it would render remote start inop; when the switch was turned to the no start position. The idea I've been playing with, for my 17 Sivlerado; is adding an electric linear actuator under the truck. Have it attached to the transmission; so that when extended, it will contact the shift lever; stopping the trans from coming out of park. Princess auto has a number of different actuators, that I don't think it would be that hard to fabricate the bracketing required. Yes the thieves will still damage the vehicle in their attempt to steal it; but at least with the trans locked in park; they're not going to be able to take it. Dan.

Dealing with an Insuarance Company that outsources your claim?
DanD replied to scuro2's topic in General Discussion
Good luck with Intact and anyone affiliated with. I just finished a 4 month battle with them; trying to get a fair settlement for my stolen truck. Their hired gun (appraiser) low balled the value of my truck. They (Intact) said if I didn't like their appraiser's assessment; I could have an independent company, do an appraisal and they would look at it. I hired a well known licensed appraiser, at a cost of 200 bucks and Intact's adjuster did look at his appraisal; long enough to throw it in the garbage. It took me filing in small claims court for them to finally come up with a better offer. Still not great but enough that I signed off on the truck. Good luck dealing with them. Just make sure you keep records of all that you have been told and by who. Dan. -
Reading your post and looking at the pictures; brought back so many memories of when my son was that age. Thanks for sharing and the spark that lit those memories!!!! Dan.

Have a look here. http://getnorth.com/category/near-north/ This is TJ's site; the man that started this forum. 90% of the different lodges, that I've been to were found through this great resource. Dan.

Life marches on. I remember putting 10 bucks worth of gas in my 69 Chevelle (396cu" with a 4 gear) and cruise down town London all night and still had enough gas to get home to Delaware. LOL Dan.

He's a link to the boss's site with a list of lodges in the "near North" I've used the site to find different drive to camps. http://getnorth.com/category/near-north/ Dan.

I would suggest reporting it missing to the MTO. You wouldn't want the plate to end up on a stolen trailer or a trailer that's involved in an accident and it still registered to you. Dan.

We all need to remember why tipping started. It is to acknowledge excellent service, above what is expected of the person providing said service. It was never meant to be a wage supplement; but it now seems to be the norm? I'd say play the tipping thing by ear. If the pilot makes you feel at ease, is talkative telling you what and where you're flying over. I'd say yea give him at tip. If he/she is anything like the pilot we had on a fly-in, well he had the personality of a door knob; functional but does/did nothing other. All he got from me was a great big AMF! Dan.

I agree with this; yes fishing can be affected, good and bad. I've been in the service industry for 40 some odd years and i cringe every full moon, The crazies come out or relatively normal people turn strange. Why I have no idea but I believe it to be true. Dan
