2019-2020 Hockey Thread
Old Ironmaker replied to DRIFTER_016's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I haven't watched 60 seconds of Hockey this year, I'm reading this thread and go see who's playing and I see a MMA fight as soon as I turn to the game. -
Nice work there. How are you going to finish the handle? Is it cork? I see instructions for mixing epoxy, Tom you don't need no stinkin' instructions. At least you did something productive with this miserable weather we both are having today. Wait, I put a Pork shoulder that I marinated in Coca Cola and Montreal Steak spice overnight in the oven this morning for pulled Pork. I didn't waste all my time.

I just made one of my best Pizza's ever, accidentally

There is nothing like using freah veggies from the garden for anything. I have a stir fry pan with holes in it for the BBQ to do fresh veg's in the BBQ, nothing better. Always add the Zucchini and Eggplant just before done. Veggies to us need to have a bite to them, "Another way to make a GREAT pizza for little cost is to use french bread cut length ways and add pizza sauce, pepperoni and cheese.......we did this alot when we first got married and couldn't afford to eat out. This was our Friday night meal in front of the TV way back in the day." Mr. G. you made homemade bruschetta bread. My Mom did big Italian bread that way, just EVO, grated Parm, garlic, dry Basil Oregano and salt. Garlic bread I guess. Why the salt I don't know to this day. When Mom cooked you had to scrape the salt off sometimes. Some things she cooked was unbeatable, some things not so much. She would cook a beef roast for 2 hours, slice it up and put it back in the oven for 30 minutes. I had the real deal roast for the 1st time at the home of a High School girl friend. I asked "Mrs. Forde what are we eating?" they all looked at me like I had a few heads and her Mom said "Roast Beef" I said "No way." and explained why. My wife said yesterday if we have another Pizza and salad again for breakfast, lunch or supper she's going out for dinner, with a friend and I can stay home and get fat. I could eat pasta and or Pizza everyday of the week. I had an Uncle that has to eat pasta at least once a day, and it had to be homemade. At least Zia Anna didn't have to guess what to make. Western over Acadia in the Uteck Bowl 74-0, at home, (Football). former Ti-Cat coach Greg Marshal shouldn't have run that score up, not impressed Greg. Edit: Acadia just got a field goal, 74-3. Sad way for some Acadia kids to end a 5 year College Football career. -
Of course there will always be some brick and mortar locations especially for groceries in our lifetime. However traditional shopping has changed drastically. My wife is in retail with a Loblaw's affiliate, Shoppers, and they are moving marketing strategies towards online shopping in a big way. You know what is interesting, Simpson Sears and Sears and Roebuck in the US were the first to utilize electronic off site shopping. Electronics in their case was the telephone, and customers could pick up their goods at remote rural sites or have it delivered, sound familiar (Amazon)? Now they have been beaten at their own game because they didn't evolve but they were the first. I am touchy feely shopper and never buy online, until this summer. We bought an expensive piece of furniture online because it was 30% off from what they had at the Blue Barn. It couldn't tell what it looked like from a small pic on the Laptop screen but it was actually nicer than what we saw in person and the same manufacturer. By the way where did it come from? Vietnam of all places and better workmanship by far than that Scandinavian place with the carton instructions. Tom if you are ever in our local Shoppers there is usually a 6' tall gorgeous (to me) blond lady at cosmetics that says hello as soon as you come in. Introduce yourself and buy something, she gets commission and I reap the rewards! Highest paid greeter I know of, ha.

Eggxactly what I was thinking, peasants. And why don't you rub it in G.Mech. Actually it is beautiful here today, sunny and zero wind off the lake, and going up to 10 tomorrow in Simcoe, so there.

If you get there early there is parking, but things may have changed since I last stopped there. I'll see if I can get a hold of my brother and ask.
-
I always drive by there to get to my brothers place. I hope it isn't like it was last week when I went by, it was shoulder to shoulder. Fish early and go slay em' DJ.

I made another one the other day. Only raised twice and it was as good. Did something a bit different based on the stone oven Pizzas they bake in store at Fortino's on Upper Centennial Hamilton. Balsamica, formage, fungi et chippolla rosa Pizza. Only Ketchinany or Big Ugly may know I can't spell or speak well in Italiano. Pre heated gas oven to 480F Rolled out dough, place on oil sprayed Pizza grate Drizzled with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, (EVO) spread with hand to edges Sprinkled on dry Oregano Laid on good soft Galbani Mottzarella Fresca (also Food Basic), $7.99 so 2 bucks more than the white rubber balls they sell Reduce Balsamic Vinegar in sauce pan, about 1/2 cup reduced to 1/4 cup, don't do too early it will turn to tar Sliced red onion rings and fresh mushrooms, (no canned stuff of which I do like sometimes,) Red onion rings and mushrooms on Pizza and drizzled on reduced Balsamic, In oven for 17 minutes then check, then keep baking if crust edge is not a golden brown, Take smoke detectors off ceiling, shake until silent, Drizzle with EVO or if you want spicy drizzle on President's Choice Red Pepper Stir Fry Oil, (beware it's spicy, actually hot depending on how much) In a real deal Pizzeria they give you a basket full of different oils to drizzle on your Pizza. I usually make my own flavoured oils but am all out. Fight over last slice. A tip, flour (if you don't have corn meal) counter top and roll out from the edges with floured rolling pin, never the centre or crust will be too thick and centre too thin. Toss in air on the back of your hands if you want to impress someone. 5 second rule applies unless guest sees it hit the pavement. -
It's all good to me now that I changed from the "wood" background to white. If I can do it anyone can. All we need now is a "Like" and "Dislike" feature and lets see how others really feel, anonymously of course. Is this the time to make another forum like "Waterside Chat".?All non fishing subjects.

After I retired I took some business courses at Brock. One of the lectures was about naming your business. People invest 100's of thousands and don't think about what to name their business. Some duzzies out there. I have to wonder as well as to why someone would open a bricks and mortar retail store in todays business market. All the bricks and mortar stores are going to the web for sales, including the big guys like Loblaw's. It's nice to see though. We should all shop local Mom and Pop's places, not just for tackle and let the big US players play in the US like BPS, Cabela's the way Target did. Best of luck to them.

That trophy is almost as big as you son and his smile almost as big as the trophy. Some beauty little trout and some not so little. Talk about a mixed bag this year. Same goes with I presume is your daughter, she is using all her muscles to hold up some of those Smallies. Those times you had are priceless, congrats and thank you for sharing. I have to ask how many down there ask you what's with all the Canadian sports team garb?

That's what we see, what does the fish see? A bait seller told me fish are colour blind. He sold minnows not much tackle. It was very interesting to see that the pink didn't change much. But what does it tell us other than pink didn't change much to the Human eye.

Do we get Air Miles for X number of posts?

You can't believe 1/2 of what you read and hear in this Internet society we are in. Even what were once reputable news agencies don't seem to fact check so they are the first to report. Every thing seems to come from a unnamed source.

AKRISONER suggested I go to the theme option at the bottom middle of this page and select default. I now have a white background with black font. I won't go blind after all from reading here.

Man you wouldn't get 3 years in Ontario of you robbed a gas station. Glad to see you back Mike. Do you still have the StarCraft that is basically the twin to mine? Mine is a Superfisherman 190. If I can remember 3 years ago you have or had a 170. How's my memory?

I nedi rince 3 times a day and have a bottle of Salinex plus anti biotic and Celebrex 3 times daily. I can't read the light font on this background. the dark when composing is a bit better. I won't PM anyone as I'm sure Art and Blues boxes are full. I can see the red underlines here but have to zoom in to read it. -
My eyes are sore from reading on this new skin after only a few minutes. I'm sure I'm not te ly one. I do like the notification when someone quotes you or replies to a thread you started. But this bronze background with white font has to go. Not as bad with this dark font on the background but not much better.

Anyone familiar with Wallaceburg On.?
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Thanks all, very interesting. I'm floored by the real estate prices and the number of properties for sale. My wife may be retiring earlier than spring. An option is to buy there over the winter and do the reno's and move when we sell here or rent our lakefront here out for the season next summer and sell in the fall. That will put a few paso's in our jeans if I find the right family. -
I don't launch alone but I know a guy that does with his 18 foot Prince Craft, and he's 70 some odd years young. Plus only has use of 1 good arm after a not so accidental shotgun incident years ago. The word can't isn't in his vocabulary. He is one old tough son of a gun.

Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
That's what I was thinking just looking at all that water on Google Earth. Do you live in the area b-cdot? It really is an interesting area with all the fishing opportunity let alone real estate prices that echo prices here 10 years or more ago. A smallish place 2 bed 1 bath which is all we need and on a big lot that granted is a gut job for 130K. A 65X150 foot lot. Crazy mon. Lots that size in Hamilton don't exist and if you do find one it would be 250K or more just for the land. -
Dope was cheap back then eh Bruce. Otherwise why would anyone jump out of perfectly good helicopter?

Well produced video. Beautiful country. 21 minutes is a tad too long but at least it's not a 21 minute infomercial like most shows are now, otherwise good stuff. Keep them coming. Welcome aboard by the way. How about an intro from you guys. I hope that's ginger ale in that Ale can in the boat, wink, wink. Nice to see you don't need 100K in boat, brand logos and electronics to catch good fish. I love the micro rigger. Reminds me of 2 buddies that used to carry the 12 footer and stuff over and around Beaver dams in back country many pounds of muscles ago. edit: you got me to watch the whole thing, refreshing. Good to see you got the camera man in for a bit.
