  1. That's the motel I looked at, thanks. Man that is very helpful, thank you, thank you. Yes you are spoiled. We live right on Erie just east of Nanticoke. Watch the Smallies, Gar Pike and can walk across the carp having group sex from the deck. It's nice being spoiled outlaw. I Mike I know that's your neck of the woods and again much appreciated, more than you can know. I didn't expect any tips but sure aren't going to ignore them. Would you please PM me with your charter rates for the Musky season. I have shown a few from my crew a few of your reports and pics of the new mount and are very interested.
  2. Shloim, Budget, that's probably the most important thing you didn't mention. You may have a beer budget and someone recommends a good Champagne. The other thing is what is your definition of amenity? I think luxury at a fishing camp is an indoor toilet, my wife's definition is it's a necessity. Shower, now that's a luxury, she begs to differ. I always tell everyone asking me a question that I have problem getting, you have to remember the W5 formula. Who? What? When? Where? And why? Now ask the W5 and that's a good question. How included and you get the best answers. Let us know the above and you will get some great recommendations here. Total of thousands of years experience at your disposal.
  3. Fantastic, love to see this. Proof the lakes aren't frozen to the bottom, Erie I'm not so sure. Off topic again. Who me? What do you do for the 2 stroke once she's out of the water to ensure the -12C nights don't split open the bottom end? I'm told just run her until she stops pissing water out the discharge. Not so sure I want to risk a new 115. We're talking about getting out this month on big "O". And I agree you worked and worked hard for them. There's the old saying the harder you work the luckier you get.
  4. You know your stuff Joey. Those groups I mentioned weren't to compare to Foreigner, just an example of electronic studio music I guess. We always said the 70's was where Rock came to die other than some that made it through the 60's alive, like the Eagles. The 80's is when music became as visually important as the music and guys like Glen Fry and the like looked like someone on the Miami Vice set, actually they were, see MTV and Much Music. The days of breaking out as a single act, everyone was doing it. Money talks. As the decade came to an end I think Rock came back the way it was supposed to evolve, more money talking and bands getting back together touring. Some great bands came to light, U2 for one. I'm having a hard time sleeping tonight and having some Sr. Moments trying to remember names.
  5. Fish from when you get there til say 1pm. Then head in for some lunch at Hooters. The same Hooters with the exploited women? Where was Hooters when I was 12 that I could go into? Can't make but good luck and have fun all. Could someone please PM with the instructions to quote without pasting the entire page and pictures? Can't be that difficult, is it? The picture posting has been solved for me.
  6. Actually Joeytier I have to agree with you a bit. I don't think they are awful but wouldn't put them in the category of Rock Royalty. Talk about synthetic studio music, there's one band that fits that category. Tears for Fears, Toto, to name 2 that fit studio musicians laying over 8 tracks to produce an album. Without the producer they would have sounded absolutely terrible. One reason Hendrix hated the studio, it wasn't what he heard in his head when he wrote the song. One doesn't need to listen hard to realize that "Wall of Sound" could never come from a guy with 1 guitar and a guy with 1 bass guitar. He hated his own voice, they said we can make you sound like Harry Bellefonte. He hated that worse but made the records so he could afford to write music. Listen to Hendrix and Buddy Miles live, that's music the way the artist meant it to sound. Listen to the Stones pick up the instruments and play a song live at the El Macombo, the tape exists, it's not studio quality but it's what was heard that night. Not the Stones we pay money to hear. There's an old grainy recording of the Beatles in Germany playing country western music. You wouldn't pay a loonie to hear them today. I wish I could find that recording I had. Sorry about the thread highjacking King.
  7. Good to know problem solved. Come to think of it I never rotate my reels to close the bail. I have a few that are less than perfect that once were. Will remove the friction ring on my favorite Shimano 1500x and try it. Yes, a 25 year old 1500 that I paid around 20 bucks for new at Wally World in Port Charlotte FLA. It's flat black, doesn't have interchangeable spools and come to think of it can't clean it because the spool doesn't come off. It has rear drag quick fire, that's why I bought it. Dyslexia. That can be a problem when you think you are loosening drag and actually tightening it, lefty tightly righty loosie is what goes through this scull of mine on a front drag, I'm getting confused thinking about it. I bought 2 a few years back that sit in the box. Time to break out a new one. When I tell you I've caught everything but a Musky and Gar on it I don't lie. A great reel. Sorry to see her go. Who's kidding it's going on the shelf. I lie, never caught a big Shark on her.
  8. King, Remove the word Foreigner and the years 70's and 80's and insert Tommy Dorsey and insert the years 40's and 50's and you sound like my Nana in 1960's when the Beatles hit North America. Not much has changed. I really had a laugh when I read that. If you think everything you hear at a concert is live music from any band it just isn't true. All that music was " produced " in a studio on multiple tracks. To reproduce it live on stage and satisfy an audience is next to impossible unless it's acoustic with a few guitars and a piano. Listen to any top band jump up on stage playing the bar bands stuff live and you would think it's your kid brother in the garage covering the Stones with his buddy and the paperboy from across the street. You will be very disappointed in any modern era band play true live. Watched an interview with Edge talking about playing one simple 3 cord riff then over dubbed on 6 tracks for the recording, not the same as what was played by the artist, not even close to what comes out of our speaker.
  9. A friend has booked a large 2,400 sq. ft. home situated on Gibson Bay on Whitestone Lake for the first 2 weeks in August for his family and himself. He might even invite me, who knows? I was wondering if any of you have fished it and I'd appreciate any insight or knowledge you may know of Whitestone Lake that you would like to share. It's located near the town of Dunchurch, Ontario. Not looking for specifics just a general where to start and for what species at that time of year. Anyone willing to give some more specific info that would be greatly appreciated through PM message. Thanks guys.
  10. I see this Shimano sells for $69.99 at BPS. Your right by the time you get it repaired and shipped if applicable it may very well be 1/2 the retail price, for sure. Usually 20 just to have someone look at it. The reviews I've read give the thing a high rating for the price. There was one comment that mirrors your problem. "I purchased the 4000 FD and at first it was great. After about 9 months on moderate use. The bail has sticking. The reel itself was making noises. Even after cleaning the reel it was still having issues. I am surprised at the poor quality of this real. I will be spending more money for a better quality reel. You would think that being a Shimano, the reel would be much better quality." I think for that price it would be a good reel as a back up, but some say they have used it hard and has zero issues. There are lemons with 70 buck reels and $60000.00 vehicles. I would go out and buy another after talking to Shimano directly. For me to drive to the closest Bass Pro will cost me that much in fuel. Look at it as 2 cases of brown pops, and buy another reel.
  11. Nice trip report sir. Sedona is a special place. My wife calls it spiritual. I call it hot and expensive. Drive a bit uphill and go from 30C to -5C. If someone tells me they are from Sedona 9 times out of 10 they are wealthy. But it truly is beautiful. Former POW and Presidential candidate Senator John McCain hails from Sedona. Want to loose an presidential election? Explain to a supporter that Barack Obama is not only not a Muslim he is a very good person, a good family man and a great American on national TV. Love the editing. I now know why anyone would wear those open toe Roman sandals, Root Beer! Lots of it. Sorry couldn't help, I has a pair and got grief from the kids, "how 90's Uncle Johnny". Almost as much as when I bought a pair of Croks and showed my wife, only wore them once. I think I saw a pic here of a 12" tapeworm coming out the bung of a Walleye, mmmm, good.
  12. Looking for opinions and most likely like me good guesses on how this past , actually still, abysmal winter will effect species opens. I know in 1992 (a very cold and wet winter) we hit the Ottawa River for our annual Pickerel opening and all the males where still on the beds and were milting all over the bottom of the boat. Went back for Bass opening and the smallies were still on the beds. We figured both were a month late at least. What do you think? Johnny D
  13. Thanks all. Looks like it will be the 3 of us. So since I only get 1 vote and it's my truck pulling my boat my vote is the only vote that counts. So the Detroit River it will be. A nice motel is cheap in Windsor, can get a 2 bedroom suite for 100 beans. Same room in TO or the Falls would be well over $300.00. Probably closer to $400.00. 2 queens for around 60 in a highly rated motel. Now I wonder who gets to spoon whom. Groundy is too short and Ted too fat. I see a cot in someone's future. The trick is hitting the Walleye run with the cold water temps that will effect the spawn for sure.
  14. Thanks outlaw good to know, was just going to download the PDF regs for the river and the lake for 2014. I would fish both sides, will need a Michigan permit. If someone comes in my boat they will get a Michigan permit as well. Just stupidity to fish without one. I found the Wardens and CO'S on border waters really don't mess around. We have fished the lower Niagara and the upper back when you could fish both sides of you had an Ontario permit and left from Ontario. If you actually left the dock from NY then you needed a NY license if I remember right. I have read here as well as elsewhere the Michigan guys can be very tough. Let's not take this thread in that direction, yet, yea after I've said my 2 cents worth.
  15. Good morning all. Looking at spending 3 or 4 days and nights in May on LSC after opening of Walleye. If the ice is out. I have been a few times at a freinds on the US side. Near the Air Force base, like an air show everyday. Didn't fish from his Pete Fountain go fast boat, couldn't troll at 100 mph. Wow what a rig. Met his neighbour (drop name here) some guy named Kid Rock, the Kid, who I actually heard of, loves Walleye fishing and that's the main reason he bought there. We talked big Walleye from Erie and Bay of Quinte. Nice neighborhood to say the least. Not the Muskokas but it sure is a nice area where they live. There will be 3 or if we take the second boat 4 or 5 of us. Featherstone Ted has fished the lake but it's been a few years. And I have read here about spring success on the lake, thanks all. I'm looking for a camp, cabin or cottage that we can rent mid week in May. I will check the regs for opening, limits and slot sizes etc. I've stopped at the park under the Blue Water bridge to the US at Sarnia as well as the area on the Port Huron side. Cold beer and sliders go good after that ride in the fog on the 402. Both sides the water was crystal clear and smallies and Walleye could be seen meandering around the rip rap on both sides. So somewhere on the south end of lake might be good. I really want to fish that river but only got 1 vote. Doesn't really look like anything other than motels along the river in Sarnia. There have been a few shows showing them pull them out below the bridge. Is there a Casino in Sarnia or am I getting Windsor and Sarnia mixed up? They were hauling out them from in front of the casino. A very light colored pickerel. I don't see them encouraging frying fillets in the rooms in the casino. If you lose enough they'll let you cook anything in there, or win hoping to keep you for a few more days. Can anyone give me some links to cottage's or cabins somewhere on our side of the lake. Doesn't have to be a fancy place. Clean is always good. Has a BBQ and we are good to go. Thanks in advance all. Johnny D Selkirk ON.
  16. I applaud you all willing to bounce a presentation from one ice berg to another in subzero temps, or even a balmy 1 or 2 degrees. I've been there in younger days. I was by the Grand today in Caledonia where there is open water, it is high and it is flowing like 90. Just be careful out there boys and girls. I'm driving south Monday. As Popeye said " that's all I can stands and can't stands no more !!!!!!!!!! " When it hits 20C that's where we're stopping. Big decision every morning, fishing of golfing? Maybe both.
  17. The part time issue is one of simple economics. As a former employer of both full and part time employees it is less expensive dealing with part time employees. The primary savings is in wages and benefits. They can be in the same workforce as employees receiving higher wages and zero benefits for the same work. And I could schedule them for 36 hours back in 07' and still maintain part time status. My administration costs were ridiculously lower than dealing with a full time employee. Whenever I had to dismiss a full time employee for just cause which was rare and not anything I ever would want to do again our labour lawyer would ask "Who did he kill?". A part timer has absentee problems or a lack of work ethic all I had to do is not schedule them for the next week, no questions asked. Part timers are entitled to both vacation pay and stat holiday pay. I have had better partime employees than some full timers.
  18. I guess it would be Langare, especially on a cold damp day.
  19. Glen, You sure would be the hanging Judge if you had that job. I wouldn't want to come before you if I walked across the street when the light was in the Don't Walk mode.
  20. Guys it's not as black and white as you say. The day the perch was found alive I followed the ambulance with boat in tow to the hospital when the guy I was fishing with had a heart attach talking the boat out. No judge would have found me guilty. It's call extenuating circumstances. Of you think I was going to go through all the fish and bleed them while my friend lay there dyeing is absolutely insane. There are very many defences when being caught doing something illegal from I didn't do it to I did it but was insane at the time, and everything in between. Interpretation of the law is why we have as many lawyers as criminals. The crown simply will not bring charges and tie up valuable court time for killing 1 Walleye and letting it spoil, no way. Not even CO's rush to places out and out poaching is happening a few blocks from their office as pointed out earlier in this discussion. Is an action like that chargeable? Contributing to poaching. There are just too many fish to fry in this world today for the justice system to take something like keeping an extra fish. It's fish not human smuggling for goodness sakes. Sometimes I think guys here need to get out in the world and see what's going on. This guy is getting a $300.00 fine and that's it. No big deal, if he wants to spend money and bring this to court the crown simply will not go forward with their resources for a fishing offence and drop the charge.
  21. Don't send her to art school.
  22. Glen, I once foul hooked a Walleye and without even thinking about it threw it on the stringer (many years before catch and release). Read the regs closely one night and realized I'm a poacher. Should I turn myself in? Glen I seriously would like your opinion on that situation. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Am I a poacher? I once had a power failure at the cottage and opened the freezer door and all my fish went bad, really bad. I allowed game fish to spoil, should I turn myself in? Should I have foreseen that a power failure was a possibility that would result in my game fish spoiling, am I a poacher? Left a Walleye in the live well overnight once and wasn't edible the next day. I allowed the game fish to spoil. Am I a poacher? When I got home once this summer and when empting the live well realized one of 20 perch was still alive. I am guilty of transporting live fish, am I a poacher? I would appreciate a response and your opinion.
  23. If I start the 40, how long can I safely wait for the spitter to spit before damaging the motor. The motor won't "spit" until the thermostat opens I learned that on YouTube as well, go to YouTube. What's with the underline, that's better.
  24. Go to YouTube, even I did the winterizing. I don't like that you didn't refill the lower end with fluid, it can promote corrosion, maybe you did, I hope. I didn't know that before I watched the many YouTube videos over and over again. I got enough confidence and pride after doing the winterizing I changed the plugs and wires. I could reline a Furnace at a cost of 100 million dollars but was afraid to change the oil in a 2 stroke, duh. If you are still sheepish after watching the many, many videos showing you step by step PM me and we'll do it together I'm not far from Brantford. I have the filler attachment for filling the bottom end with gear oil. The gear oil, plumbers antifreeze and fogging agent will cost about 40 bucks, they charge 150. If you insist bringing it in the you are close to Don Hyde in Hagersville on #6 south of Caledonia or Proctor on Hwy 3 in Simcoe. They better give you a deal this time of year. Just ask them.
  25. I'm going to sound sexist here. The drivers I see constantly driving beyond the capabilities of the vehicle as well as conditions are 20 something girls in little 4 cylinder 2 door pretend sport cars. Without question. Next is 20 something boys in pretend sports cars. Might be a tie. We haven't talked about the suitability of the vehicle for conditions. That is a factor that makes some like Bill feel they are capable of doing the speed limit in less than ideal conditions. I did the calculations before and it's simple, doing 120 in a 100 gets you there about 10 minutes early going 62 miles. 10 freaking minutes. Hurry up and stop. I guess your 10 minutes is worth someone else's injury, or yours. Do the math your saving a few minutes, come on man.
