I won't stand in line for sex let alone flowers or building materials.

See edit above. I'm name dropping and bragging.

What's 19 short for? I was born not that long after the 2nd WW ended, please forgive me for not being hip. But had it's advantages. The cover charge to see RUSH at the old Rock Pile in Hamilton was 1 dollar. Was so close to Alice Cooper that he handed me his hammer to keep time to "Schools Out" at Brian Timmins in Hamilton too. A few years latter saw Pink Floyd at the old Ivor Wynne stadium which was then new for 5 bucks. Worked security for a company in Hamilton and shared a cab with Stevie Nicks. She said I was cute, so there.

Mr. Friday night lazy me? Yep, a 6 or less second Google search tells me it all depends on where you live in Ontario as to whether or not you can have a fire.

As soon as I shut down this cumbuder thing I remember to ask the question. What model Benz sedan can do 308 KPH? I don't know if the pic they used on CBC is the actual car or a stock photo. Shown is a 2 door C class coupe on the tow truck not a sedan. What are a few details in a news report in 2020?

The Mayor said in his statement: "Another piece of good news is that effective this Friday May 8, Fire Services is lifting the burn ban. Please be responsible if you’re going to have a fire this weekend and remember that items such as grass clippings, leafs and garbage are not allowed to be burned. These should be disposed of properly at our landfills sites, which will begin to open to the public starting next week." How can a Mayor lift a provincially mandated burn ban? Or I may have missed the Ford has lifted the province wide burn ban.

Nothing different than their normal Sunday attendance. I am on a boating site with the majority of members in the US. More than a few of the members are rabid NASCAR fans. Attendance has been dropping every year for many years now. Other than The Daytona and Coke a Cola race many seats are empty. They cram all the fans in 1 or 2 sections and the TV director never shows the empty stands. OK, is RONA short for Corona? Are we getting that lazy?

Fair price for lawn maintenance.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
We have a very irregular lot and I have no idea if that matters to the robot. Without knowing the price of one of these robots I would have to pay someone to do it big bucks before a robot started to give me a good return on investment. -
The Science Behind Fishing Part II
Old Ironmaker replied to David Chong's topic in General Discussion
As Smallies are my favorite quarry I look forward to the discussion. -
Self-isolation. Man we are weeks into self isolation and it is really upsetting me to witness my wife standing at the living room window gazing into space with tears running down her cheeks. It breaks my heart to see her like this, I have thought very hard about how I might cheer her up. I have even thought about letting her in but rules are rules. Johnny D, plagiarizing.

For a number of reasons I can no longer do any lawn maintenance. The lot is 65'X180' with about 6 large trees on it that need to be cut around. around 70' of a flagstone walkway that needs to be weed whacked between the stones. Looks great but a pain to weed whack. A 4 car driveway that is bordered by 6X6's that need to be weed whacked too. We are in a rural area on the Erie shoreline. There are more than a few yard maintenance guys out here. Most do it after their full time job is over and on weekends. The lawn is not watered at all, ever. Areas under the tree canopy can go a few weeks without cutting it. I am not going to watch my wife put in 9 and 10 hour days wearing a face mask and shield for hours at a time and come home with deep lines and a rash on her beautiful face and then cut the grass, trim and weed gardens. I told her I was going to pay the guy last year and she said "Pay me!" That's not the point, I'll pay her not to do it. What do you guys think a fair price would be? I think I would pay by the cut not on a long term contract. The guy that lives down the road from us snow blows the drive and cuts a path to the door for 25 bucks cash, takes him 7 minutes, I timed him. I never would question a fair market price, we all want to get paid fair market value but many times question the price we need to pay someone to do something we can no longer or have any idea how to do something. Unfortunately for him and fortunately for us he hasn't had to clear the snow in 2 years because there isn't any. But I guarantee the grass will grow. By the time it took to type this I could have cut it myself, limping with a cane.

I'm so glad it worked out for you Brian. It sure hasn't hindered your fishing. Pain is so subjective, the O.P. didn't mention pain, to me that's the main reason to have surgery, to lessen the pain so an individual can get back to work or just be able to get to sleep without taking a handful of narcotics. I have to laugh when I hear someone say they have an 8 out of 10 pain. An 8 is bad, very bad. If a 10 is unconsciousness pain because it is so bad the brain shuts itself down an 9 must be in full fledged shock, hot and cold sweats, shaking, elevated heart rate, shortness of breath and all that stuff. A 9 is bad, very very bad. Then there is the 8 out of 10 pain. Not as bad as a 9 but bad enough to get on the floor writhing and moaning in a fetal position. I could go down the list until we get to a 4 which is what the nice lady in our Dr's office was talking about when she filled out her questionnaire. Pain is one of the most subjective things us humans must deal with. One mans 4 is another mans 8.

You don't know that. With proper therapy surgery is not always the answer. DNA plays a big part as well. I know people that have had major ortho surgery and zero arthritis and people that have never had an injury full of arthritis. I don't practice medicine I just tell of my experiences.
-
I have not had it done but know a few guys that have with mixed results. Recovery time is totally dependent on your age and physical fitness. When I was scheduled for a major surgery I hit the gym, hard. If you do not do your post op therapy you may never heal. Age also comes into play as far as the advantage of surgery. In your 30's? Of course you need to get the most out of your body with 30 years of work ahead of you. 55 years old? You might just leave it alone unless the pain keeps you up at night and you can't carry a box of 12 beers. At almost 66 now I'm in the can't cut the lawn, carry a 12 pack of anything and am up all night with pain. I go through 40 some hours of no sleep then sleep for a day then repeat. And that is after having over a dozen surgeries since 1978 from head to toe. If you see a surgeon they will want to do surgery, one honest bone Doc once told me that's the only way he gets paid. I see Docs are replacing knees and hips on friends and relatives of mine in their 60's and older that have never limped or even complained of pain ever. Get several opinions including from a non surgical rehab perspective. Read about NHLer Connor McDavids non surgical comeback. Amazing.

I don't like wet battered fish. If not done right it is like eating a fish donut. Mine is as simple as it can get. Egg with a touch of milk and Montreal Steak Spice mixed in. Shooked in Panko crumbs and fried. Done. Same way for 40 years. I have tried many others from Rice Crispies to Beer batter, I always go back to Panko.

Seen any good movies lately
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
2 small buckets at 25 bucks each. I take the MT buckets home to use as disposable recycling boxes. No need to get them off the curb the next day. Hey, I might be onto something. -
Seen any good movies lately
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
Saw our 1st Bell TV pandemic bill for renting movies. Wowza. But cheaper than paying 50 bucks for popcorn at the show. And the gallon of pop is another 25. -
Believe it or not I had my very 1st Pogo about 5 years ago at the Waterford Pumpkin festival. I got one from a food truck. It was marvelous, it was large, a good tube of meat and not dripping wet in oil. I have yet to have one 1/2 as good as that very 1st Pogo. I am chasing the Dragon Hot Dog on a stick version. I even dragged my wife to the fair just to find the guy, nowhere to be found.

I haven't been here for a few weeks. Need to change some habits to stay off the tar. Open OFC, pour a coffee and light a smoke. Not a singe puff since I paid 18 bucks a pack after they stopped selling tobacco on the Rez's out here last month. Already my wet chest has cleared up. I was getting a sharp pain in my lower right lung every time I coughed. I have gained about 10 pounds, same for my wife Ticha. I am smelling things I haven't smelled in years and that isn't always a good thing. This exact second I'm reaching for a cigarette, habits, OFC/smoke. I'm not even using Nicorette spray under my tongue or chewing Nicorette gums any longer. I sure don't want to put the jinx on myself but it isn't nearly as tough as it was when I quit for a year in 2010. I remember Dad telling me one afternoon here a few years ago when I lit up that after being off cigarettes for over 40 years he still had the urge to spark one up when he smelled tobacco burning. He was 90 then. I told him he should if he wanted to. Hell 90, he lived 4 days past his 92nd B Day April 2019. RIP Tony the "Tiger." If I live to 90 I'm doing a few things still illegal in Canada.

That date is getting closer and closer by the day. Let's all hope the border is opened by then. Our European cruse is cancelled so I thought June would be a good time to travel down east. We would take the ferry at Bar Harbor Maine to Nova Scotia and knock off several hours of driving. If the borders are open by then to tourism.

Everyone is getting more and more antsy as this thing crawls along. Folks fuses are getting shorter and shorter. On another discussion forum I was called a few choice words in a PM worthy enough to report him to a moderator. The problem is that he is a mod. My last few posts there have mysteriously disappeared. Let cool heads prevail.

It feels like yesterday your kids were brand new. A better word would be babies.

flying squirel nest in my outboard, what to do?
Old Ironmaker replied to chris.brock's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
How you knew they were flying squirrels is beyond me Chris. I always fill our window flower boxes with pine boughs in the winter, looks nice. A few springs ago I came upon a nest of little birds. They were flying birds I think. I carefully put the branches back. I checked on them everyday and took pics with a macro lens, turned out nice. Of course I couldn't leave well enough alone and the nest fell on the ground. 1 bird flew off a few feet at a time then it was eventually gone. The other 2 died after I put them back in the flower box, I think Momma bird abandoned them after I touched them. I had a glove on. I still feel badly and stupid. -
There is no harm unless the license plate is obstructed then they can fine you. As explained above.

The Gov of Florida as well as some mayors south insist on opening some facilities. I just hope that all this discipline(most) people have shown is not all for nothing. In my opinion it's too early to slack off now. I want to see the curve more than flatten, I want to see it drop. No matter what we are allowed to do in the future we will still self isolate and take all the precautions regardless. I could use a haircut. I was a month behind when this all started in Feb. Now I am 3 months behind and I look like Don King in the morning. It's the longest it's been for the last 40 years, maybe longer. Good for covering peachy spots on the noggin' though. edit: This morning it was something like 3 states opening up at 4PM today is it up to 13 states all across the continental US.
