Nice Pete!! It's great that you get out on a fishing trip each year with your dad. I'm still trying to get mine to come out on a day trip.
-
That'll leave a mark!!! Mother Nature can sure reek some havoc when she wants to. Glad nobody was hurt.

It's a great show, you can go spend a couple of hours at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) then head over to see the airshow, consult the schedule to make sure you see the planes you want. I've been a few times and the power of the military jets never ceases to amaze me. 9 years ago a buddy and myself met the aircrew of the USAF F-16C that was there and we had a chance to get up close and personal with the plane (I have pics of me in the cockpit with the canopy down). Post 911, I don't think you'd get a chance to get within 100 metres of the flightline.

I hope the 'ski tasted good. It's too bad that we catch some and we kill some unfortunately. Pidge is pretty good. I've been up a coupla times this year once for Muskie and once with the family for panfish. And I have a home base at Pigeon Hollow trailer park, a buddy has a nice trailer there. He's also got a nice Tahoe bowrider that I'll have to borrow for fishing (I gotta slime it a bit, it's too pretty).

Congrats on the wifey putting up with you for 18 years and happy b-day to Avery! The camp is looking pretty good. In another coupla years it's going to look like a Hilton at the rate you're going with it.

I'm just waiting to see what Dalton is going to promise this time to get elected. He promised the world and delivered peanuts last time around. The MNR has been getting hosed for several years and needs a lot of money and effort to be rebuilt to operate effectively. Come on, CO's not having gas to patrol???

Better late than never. Hopefully they'll help make a difference. It's pretty bad over there. Entire villages in the mountains are burning.

Congrats!!! A 46 incher up on Babaganouche which runs into Lake Whatchamacallit is a heck of a nice fish. Lew is the man when it comes to fishing for toothy critters.

I know I'm late on this but I'd have to say that the free launch up in Buckhorn is kinda nasty looking. If you have a beater tinny I wouldn't worry but if it's a nice boat, don't bother. At the yacht club, there is a nice launch but it'll set ya back I think 10bucks.

Lew, I guess the big toothy critters just weren't interested in what you threw at them. Great pics and report.

Lake Scugog Canoe Report - Sunday Aug 19th

NICE!! We were up in Bobcaygeon yesterday fishing a few spots. My little one with her DORA the Explorer rod had the hot stick. I think that rod pulled in about a good dozen rock bass, sunfish and a tiny perch. With my other setup we got about 6 or 7 fish including a feisty 1lb smallie that was pretty hungry (remember, we were using a 1/3rd of a worm on tiny hooks with a split shot and a bobber). Dear old dad got to unhook everything and I spent the afternoon tying on hooks and setting up the rods, putting on worms and helping my daughter reel in the fish. -
Lunker, sorry to hear about that. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your extended family. I don't think anyone hasn't been touched by the 'Devil's Disease'.

Go after the rental agent!! It's their responsibility to rent the place out as advertised. He gets a comission, make him work for it!!!! Some of these guys out there renting 'luxury cottages' make me want to laugh. Whose definition of 'luxury'???

Corey, a word of advice: Diversify your assets!! The shares of your company are on a roll right now, take some profits off the table as soon as you can. I'm not saying to dump all of your shares, just about half of them. At least that way, you get the bulk of what you put in minus the applicable capital gains taxes that will have to be paid next year (don't forget about that). What you take out, re-invest in something else that is not is the same industry that you are in. I'm a financial advisor and I've seen what happens when people fall in love with an investment. The earnings start to fall, the share price follows and without really knowing all there is to know about the company, people buy more, the share price continues to drop and people believe that the stock will reach it's previous highs. This was an abbreviated version of the saga of NORTEL, remember them. You'd be amazed how many people still own their shares and refuse to dump them and take their capital losses and move on. Don't let greed motivate you when you invest, it's the most dangerous emotion along with fear. GrilW, hang in there, I think the markets are in for some turmoil over the next couple of months as the whole Credit Liquidity issue has to shake itself out. Good luck and please, I'm giving some free advice, I'm not shilling anything. I just don't want to see people get killed in the markets if they don't have to.

Should be a nice ride. BTW, if you don't mind, what did it run you? I'm thinking about picking up a boat in the next year or two and I have to start planning (greasing the wife). Thanx.

W O W ! ! ! Those are some big monsters!! Trolling or casting???? Mind you, who cares when you pull something like that out of the water. -
Lew, don't get me started! Some putz has a couple of hundred yards of 80lb PP and my brand new Shallowraider wrapped around the prop of his 14ft LUND tinny after crossing our stern pretty close on Friday afternoon on Pigeon. He was cruising around with his family in the boat, he should take more care.
-
Lew, you're kidding right?? Oh no, I was a good little boy and I listened to all the speakers and picked the brains of a lot of the exhibitors as well. The Odessey was great and I look forward to it next year. Now if I can only get out a bit more often.
-
Jeez Lew, that first one is a monster!! Any idea as to how big she was???
-
I'd give Cronzy the benefit of the doubt. He's out there battling for our interests as anglers with the powers that be. I'd doubt that he'd do anything to hurt a big laker intentionally. As for buddy with the trout with the mouth wide open, I figure that went into his frying pan.
-
Thanks for all the well wishes guys. I'm hoping to put together a fall trip down to St. Clair to go for the 45+incher.
-
There's smallies, pike, some lakers, the odd walleye and some muskie in there. Bring an assortment of gear and you should be covered.

Well, Friday morning I was able to get out for a day of fishing with my old bud Tony. We hit the road from Markham shortly after 7:00 and were on the water over by Bobcaygeon about 9:30 or so after a couple of pit stops. We hit quite a few spots and after about 2 hours or so of casting my 'squirrel' (big black bucktail) I felt a mighty tug on the line. I set the hook and the battle begun, it took about 3-4 minutes to get this girl tired enough to cradle and perform a bit of hook removal surgery. She measured in at 41 inches and was fairly hefty, no marks and real pretty. A real healthy Kawartha's muskie. We spent the rest of the day hitting a bunch of different spots to no avail, not even a raised fish but I'm not complaining, 41 is my new PB. Now I need a 45+ incher. The bugger was some guy crossed behind us and spooled my 7000 Abu of brand new 80lb PP, a 2ft fluorocarbon leader and a brand spanking new ShallowRaider that I was trolling about 50 feet behind us. We tried yelling but he was oblivious, I was out about 40 bucks or so, he'll be out a bottom end if all that PP wrapped around his prop. So for the rest of the day, the joke was that we should troll our VISA cards. A pit stop at Pigeon Hollow Trailer Park to see another buddy of mine and have a quick beer (a cold pop for my DD Tony) and we were off again. We called it quits about 8:00 and hit the road. It was a beautiful day with temps in the high 20's with a nice breeze and no humidity. We had a great time and I hope to get out again sometime soon. And a pic of the release:

Sorry guys, I'm just getting out of the office now. I had a client call this afternoon who needed to see me this evening to take care of some business. I hope the wings are hot and the beer icy cold.

Great report! I'm supposed to be hitting Pigeon this friday so hopefully I can tangle with a couple of the toothy critters.
