Portable Electric Drill to auger through ice
Billy Bob replied to Billy Bob's topic in General Discussion
I want to THANK EVERYONE here for their input....you all gave me a lot more to think about....Bill's suggestion of the Fin-Bore III got me to do even more research on this.....then yesterday I just closed out all the tabs and slept on it.....Sinker's idea of just trying it with my 7" auger definitely has some merit to ponder if I get new blades on that good old auger....I remember YEARS ago there were several bait shops in my area that would sharpen those blades for you......their all gone today. IF anyone else has some more first hand experience with this, I'm all ears. Bob -
FREE.......my favorite four letter word....

Portable Electric Drill to auger through ice
Billy Bob replied to Billy Bob's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Sinker.......I have only been out 3 times this year as we are VERY limited with ice conditions....and only 6" at the most but I have very bad shoulders and I can really feel it now a days when I hand auger through....so I am trying to decide on a new 5" or 6" auger and also trying to decide on the standard Strikemaster auger or a Strikemaster LAZER auger....anyone here have the newer LAZER hand augers and are the worth the extra $30....I can get a 5" standard for $49 or a LAZER for $79 shipped via Ebay. Either way I know I'm going to miss my 7" hole..... -
Portable Electric Drill to auger through ice
Billy Bob replied to Billy Bob's topic in General Discussion
Right now I have a 7" auger and a 19V lithium.....so I'm considering a 5" or MAYBE a 6" auger.....Bill, what are you using ? -
Does anyone here use a rechargeable drill and a adapter to drill holes in the ice.....looking at getting a adapter for my portable drill but I know I would also have to downsize my auger to either a 5" or 6" auger....but would like to first hear first hand experience if anyone here is using this system.....here's basically what I'm talking about. BTW don't bother suggesting a gas power auger....I'm not going to lay out that kind of money for so little use I will get out of it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/150702115939?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1214wt_928

Nice fish.......all I keep hearing is the river will NOT clear up this year.....no ice on Erie and lots of wind and some rain is not a good recipe for the lower river.
-
Jay, very nice fish.......and that truck with those tracks is something else....you don't see that everyday. BTW...how far are you from Aikens Lake....got a nice offer through Cabela's to fish at Aikens Lake Lodge....but still a bit too pricey when you figure in the airfare to Winnipeg. Have you ever fished Aikens Lake ?

Hook it up and try it on the ice.....watch your bait be lowered....and it should also show you jigging it up and down.....I don't remember how much power this unit has....I'm thinking not as much as you might want but still should be good for shallow fishing....should be no problem in 50' or less and should read the bottom in over 100'........ A good flasher with a experienced angler who knows how to read the flasher can not only see fish and or bottom but also find transition areas like where a hard bottom turns to a soft bottom at the same depth...these are great areas for fall walleye fishing. You can also pin point a drop off and I think a flasher is the best in the weeds....many graphs have a difficult time in shallow weedy areas, often losing bottom readings.....a flasher never has this problem. I am miffed at the cost of these so called Ice Fishing Flashers that are available today....go on Ebay and get a good used flasher and if you know how to read it, it will do the exact same thing as the fancy color flasher for about $25 instead of $225+.......but hey, it's only MONEY...

Cabela's........$27 with the charger. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Rechargeable-12-Volt-Battery/700551.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3DBatteries%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3DHeader%25253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26recordsPerPage%3D80%26search%3DBatteries%26searchTypeByFilter%3DAllProducts%26x%3D0%26y%3D0&Ntt=Batteries&WTz_l=Header%253BSearch-All+Products

My brother in-law had one on his boat and I wired it for him....it's a 12 volt unit....and they work quite well if your experienced in reading a flasher unit....most younger guys that never stared at a flasher for HOURS at a time would probably only get the benefit of it as a depth finder....us older guys who cut our teeth with these flasher units would have no problem finding fish with them. It would make a fine ice fishing flasher if you need one.

YES.......back then everything to "me" and sounds like to "you" were better because we if fact did experience the early day SPORTSMEN SHOWS that were in fact awesome.....but now it all about getting more money for the company that is sponsoring that particular booth..... Now each and every booth is about separating you from you money all while the poor sap working that booth is getting almost nothing to be there...

Lew, every in home stove I have ever seen connected to (natural) gas uses a compression flex hose like you have there....BUT.....they recommend you do not RE-USE a flex hose when installing a new stove...AND...every supply line I have ever dealt with uses solid piping the usually comes up from the floor....this way it's a more solid connection that will not be disturbed by vibrations. Gas driers also use the compression fitting flex hose and I also have seen many on hot water heaters....but again to solid piping...

These are the only lures I use now..... You want a real deal....DON'T spend the money to get in, DON'T spend the money for parking and DON'T spend the money on the overpriced food and that new rod/reel combo is NOW FREE..... Twenty years ago or MORE the sportsmen shows were a place to find deals and have a good time without spending a lot of money to just get in.....now it's nothing more then a money grab...

I REALLY like the owners before these present owners....can't remember their names but they were a older couple that just left you alone for the week.....and they also provided you with all the firewood you wanted FREE. These new owners have tried to convert a old fishing spot into a tree hugging, paint the butterflies, etc friendly resort....but that didn't seem to take hold and now they realized if they are going to survive they have to cater to the old grungy fishermen who pay the bills... The first year the new owners took over I was heading over to the fish cleaning hut with a stringer of walleye and pike....He (owner) stopped me and said I had a LOT of fish there....it wasn't even close to our limit, yet I was being lectured by this greenhorn that couldn't tell a walleye from a musky... They also started to charge for firewood....they had a five gallon buckets full of GREEN wood for "only" $5 per bucket... ...you couldn't get that stuff to burn with a blow torch. Prices also started to slowly climb...but still a pretty good deal... New owners also wanted to open a restaurant on that building that overhangs the water near the launch....until they found out they couldn't get a permit from the government to do so.... ....last I heard they were having a cater bring in food for certain events though... But the old owners were the best.....at the end of the week I would go into the office and tell them I took so many bags of ice and so many tanks of gasoline and settle up my bill while leaving a deposit for next year and leave in the morning....

HEY......I like this idea....if I remember and have time I might try this....otherwise these pics remain packed away somewhere and nobody gets to see them.

I have been to Disney MANY times....after the second trip there I bought stock in Disney and it really paid off for me.....but I have not been there for 3 years....it's very pricey now.....but still a great vacation for the kids or without the kids...Get the books from the library and READ them before you go for LOTS of tips so you're not just standing in line. If you have any questions on DISNEY I'm sure I can help. But anyways...... I fished 3 times while staying in Disney...... First time I booked a bass trip outside the park.....DON'T BOTHER Second time I booked a bass trip in the park and fished the big lake out of Fort Wilderness....just OK at best Third time I hit GOLD by booking a trip in the park out of the lake that Disney Market Place in on....this time I took the whole the tribe (family) with me and it was a blast....they have pontoon boats there and you drag around large shiners while the Capt slow trolls....we all caught huge largemouth bass from 6lbs to 8lbs...... Go on Disney's site and get the phone number for this charter....it's the BEST bass fishing you will ever see....BUT book a MORNING trip as it gets hot and BUSY on this lake later in the day. Good Fishing, Bob
