Question to March/April boaters/fisherman.
Billy Bob replied to archie_james_c's topic in General Discussion
You did not mention what size motor or better yet is the outboard a tiller steer or helm steering motor....I have had my helm steering motor freeze in place because of trailering it in very cold temps.....my solution was to pour lake water on the steering mech's at the motor end.....moisture gets into that area and well you know the rest....a few bucket full of lake water sure beats going around in circles once you push off from the dock...LOL.. -
LOL......Good One ! ! !

And that's the FIRST thing on my mind.....EVERYONE I take is given specific instructions on when and how to stop me from backing down into the water too far....when I'm by myself it may take 1-3 stops before I get it just right.....but you know what Paul......I have gone 15 years without worring about my wheel bearings without repacking them babies (treat them like babies and they last).....do you know anyone else that can say that ???
-
With Bearing Buddies you are putting ALL your FAITH in that rear (inside) axle seal....as a mechanic almost my whole life I'm not prepared to do that...my "guess" would be 50-60% or more overfill their hubs with Bearing Buddies (as witnessed by grease everywhere) and thus blow out that rear (inside) seal because it's the weakest point within the wheel bearing system....just saying..... I'll stick with not getting the bearings wet.... much like your tow vehicle wheel bearings...
-
I have always said Bearing Buddies do NOT get grease to the inside bearing.... I repack my bearing about every 15 years if they need it or not....I'm am not kidding....the trick to good bearing maintenance is do NOT but them in the water...When I got my boat (26 years ago) I lowered the rollers and bunks down as low as they can go BUT kept as much weight on the rollers as possible...then I spray the bunks down ONCE a year with a full can of silicone which drenches with it AND grease the rollers about every 3-4 years......then when I back down to launch or retrieve my boat I stop the trailer just before the hubs go into the water...no water in hubs means no problems down the road....

I don't have a DSI unit but rather a LMS 520c unit...but with everything I have seen and read....I would rather have a DSI unit on my boat as it's down-looking sonar imaging seem much better than conventional flat imaging I now have.....down-looking sonar imaging is more camera/picture like and much easier to read and interpret then old 2D imaging IMHO....why would you not what the DSI technology in a sonar unit ? ? ? Here's more info right from Lowrance.... http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/Mark-Elite-Series/Elite-5-DSI-Gold/

* Good weather for the times I choose to fish * Good health for the times I fish * Good company during the times I fish * Good luck for the time I can go and fish I don't know what more a man could ask for.......

Does He/She have a better boat that you borrow while the wifey keeps em occupied... You have to look at the positive sides to everything...

Insurance is BEST purchase when dealing straight with the company in question and not using a middle man (broker). But if you like to put a big smile on a insurance broker/agent then go for it...

It's officially Spring here.....I just seen a nice juicy nightcrawler on my driveway from the rain.

It's 45 degrees here this morning....I think it was Thursday we had 65 degrees and lots of sunshine......the wife and I sat on the back deck drinking beer and toking on a stogie..... Hoping 7-10 days to be crappie fishing on Chautauqua Lake...

Last year while visiting the Harrisburg Sportsmen Show (weekend) we visited both BPS in Harrisburg and the HUGE Cabela's store in Hamburg, PA...my recommendation would be the Cabela's store hands down. Both were nice....the BPS store in Harrisburg is connected to a mall that was offering free bus shuttle rides to the Sportsmen Show 7 miles away because of parking restraints there. The next morning (Sunday) we arrived at the Hamburg,PA (40 miles)Cabela's store 20 minutes after it opened...already about 250-300 cars in their MASSIVE parking lots....It's 250,000 sq feet store which I believe is their largest of stores. It had 2 restaurants within the store....and NO TAX on any clothing.... When I visit my son Billy in Cortland, NY I drive right past the BPS store in Auburn, NY and often stop there....but that is a scaled down in size store (85,000 sq ft) compared to any other BPS or Cabela's I have ever been in....but still MUCH better then Expensive Mountain that we have here. NF ever wondered the alcohol content in US beer?
Billy Bob replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
Actually the #1 beer sold in WNY is Labatts Blue Light...so much that Labatts has moved their corporate HQ here in Buffalo. -
Only Cabela's in PA is in Hamburg, PA...nowhere near the Steel City...and no BPS near Pittsburgh either....closest would be Harrisburg, PA and that's a drive also...Sorry... Bob

Hell no.....it's in every fire hall down here... -
If you stop at a pub on the way home and there're serving warm beer, you might just be in England.... :rofl2:

Yes and NO......Hotmaps and Hotmaps Premium will work in the LMS 520c but NOT Hotmaps Platinum as per Navionics own website....http://www.navionics.com/MarineCompatiblePlotters_PlatinumPlus.asp?GuideType=1 So be careful what you buy....taking the map cards can be almost impossible to take back once opened. Yep......we've been slowly working on that for about 200 year now...and only now are we seeing the results....
-
We have had our problems with pheasants here in WNY also....at one time I only need to drive 1/2 mile to get a limit......now that's impossible no matter how far you drive.... But as far a bunnies go.......they go in cycles and unless you hunt them you don't have a good handle on them....some years they may be abundant but you're just not seeing them from the road. They as a whole are one tough creature that know how to survive and prosper on the good years...you must of heard the say.....they multiply like rabbits...that's why there's so many of them...

Stoty........GOOD INFO for the guys/gals.....
