  1. Sly....Never to Be Forgotten my freind! Our condolences Donna and to the Family.. Distance made getting together difficult these past 5 years but Shane, you were never far from thought. I know you'll have peace now..To one of the most thoroughly giving people one will ever know! Peter & Charmaine...
  2. Nice catch, even nicer considering the amount of time you only managed this season Eric..SO FAR...! That 36" looks much larger, healthy looking fish.
  3. Good post and an even better one for this time of year. I WAS an avid steelheader for years... I no longer do because of the fools you often see lets not forget the trash they are known to leave behind. This discussion comes up every year..why, Why at all let anyone fish this period...Every other fish we must wait for the season to op0en, the spawn to finish, its not fishing it is slaughter. Why do they not, (MNR), simply close all tribs this time of year just prior to the snow/ice forms for steelies...say,mid-December..?? Plus the mods here could simply Not-Allow any posts regarding peeps who post fishing the SOUTHERN tribs in the fall in this part of Ontario. Probably wouldnt work I suppose...too many thinking they are legitimately fishing, QUESTION for those who do: Why would you want to fish for these rotting, half breathing carcasses?
  4. Posted Today, 09:50 AM Somehow I knew these were not just pictures. Thanks for posting and congrats on those beauties. ...I was thinking the same thing Will. Nice shots Larry. ....Is that E-Tec yours..?...bee-Yoooty! -Peter
  5. From Lew....."Art's a good dood for sure Spiel Couple years back I'd mentioned that one of my favorite musky baits was a large jailbird coloured Suick. Awhile later, we were all up at Lakair for the June g2g and Art surprised me with a gift of an 11" jailbird Suick....that he'd custom made himself. A good friend indeed !!" EXACTLY Lew.... ..and exactly the very same lure I was fortunate enough to receieve from Art that same weekend, as well as 2 other suicks. Yes..ssssir...Them boys are one of a kind but lets not forget Spiel either....more then deserving for what that man has given and kept on given. Thanks to all 3 of ya's...Thoughts of U guys bring happy memories.
  6. Jedi, Requirements and direction from others above are right on. As a homeowner there is much you can and should do prior to add to these other comments that will save you money in the planning/drawings stage. In your deed package you should have a"LOT-PLAN" or PLOT. If not one can be obtained from your local planning dept. - This shows how your home is situated on the property, setbacks from neighbours, underground services, roadway etc... Get a photo-copy or 6 of this plan. Sketch out your own version, (to scale preferrably), and insert where the planned work will appear, the 'Footprint' of directionality of the area taken up by the steps into the home of your proposed new entrance. ie:(if basement floor is 50" below grade- divide by 10 for 5-eq. step treads and you'll have the distance away from your home). This Lot-Plan hopefully also shows your weeping system hookup, regardless it should be right-round the home- and include on YOUR Drawing a Floor Drain centered at your new entrance w/'Proposed'-new hook-up to the drain.(& weeping system). Again, to scale, Draw an elevation of the side of your home the new project will appear on showing the FACE of your new entrance, its relationship to the grade and the 1st floor. You have now accomplished several items because your ideas are on paper. 1). Your designer/Draftsman's work is close to complete 2). You have the basics of the project to submit for contractor estimate. 3). You now have the ability to estimate your cost for the project and decide on its appearance/door-frame type, concrete, pressure, treated, cedar steps etc... If you are capable of handling these basic drawings, you may wish to complete the working/structural drawings and if lucky enough to know and engineer, perhaps purchase his STAMP approval. I usually pay betweem $200-450 depending on the project. Your new Lot-Plan, the Working-Structural Drawings (Stamped), you are ready for Permit Application. Like others have mentioned, if you've further Q's do not hesitate to get in touch: [email protected] Peter EDIT: There is a mite more to it then what I've mentioned but In General, the way to start out. I have missed out a few items reading back. ie:New entrance Landing. Approx., 3 weeks ago I didnt have the time to do the drawings myself and had to ship them out to a design/drafting company we use now & then: 15hrs. @ $90/hr-for Engineers input, direction, stamp. 5hrs @ $30/hr for draftsman These drawings I would have completed myself in approx 4hours total. The engineer, well my schooling gave me this training but No Stamp unfortunately so I too must pay but his input on something like your project or mine was not that seriously required just his John-Hancock.
  7. Roy, I just had to come back and read this again...actually it was the pics of the Big Unit hiself and Mar-co together I wanted to see. Thanks for posting that Bud and please pass my thanks to Mr.Thorpe for allowing those precious shots on-line prior to the show, I realize the personal significance of those to Marc. Once more Roy, My thanks. Take care Bud!
  8. l-t-f ...Dax hit the nail on the head if it'll be your first time out. PLEASE make sure you have the correct or ample release gear, perhaps your boat partner has already, if not, educate him. There is plenty of internet info out there on lunge fishing pigeon even right here on the search engine for ... What type of Rod. What type of reel. What type of line. Do I need a leader. What type of lures and how deep do I run them or how fast. Release tools... Release tools first Please! Dax, Mike...instead of them jaw spreaders Ive been using about 1-1/2"- dowling wrapped with hockey tape on the ends so's to protect the inner mouth in 6", 8",10" & 12" depending on the fish these past few years and found it much quicker and less awkward. My $0.02. Be well all! EDIT: that'll be 6-8-10 & 12" lengths folks..lol
  9. OMG... Art...Joe..they look so old school You both deffinitely neeed some of the new ones, Ill look after that. I cant rememebr if I use to weight them back then or not...what was it...about 5yrs ago..?? Joe, the red/Wht/Blue was supposed to be a novelty not an actual lure... PM comming tommorrow Bud's...G'night. pete BTW, Art, I just sent you a PM before seeing this
  10. Art, Hey dude, ...RECIPE??????as in food recipe? I'll have to go to Charamine for that then post my name to it afterwards.. Yes, I have been known to be that slow..is there any other knid of recipe!...
  11. Yeah, like 'Bunk said....if only it didnt end! Good to see you guys keeping a great thing going...WTG, exellent. Wayne, you've gone full titlt Bud...full tilt...love it. pete
  12. .....really found the soft-bag binder system storage for plastics an exellent idea. I use the BPS binder bag for bass plastics keeping them in their original packaging, inserting that into the binder pages and also found them great for storing walleye WORM HARNESSES as well indidual pages for FLUORO LEADERS, that at times required some level of attention prior to tying them to your line....tangled whatever. For my MUSKY PLASTICS, the same only I use the X-tra Large Shimano worm BINDER-BAG, large enough for 12" plastics and to date, never had any plastic discolour,go hard or rot. Every second on the water counts..... EDIT: for walleye jigging small grubs and curly tails I still use the Plano system plastic tray only because I find it accessible for quick decisions on colour to use. Next time in CTC, check out the Auto section, Tool Boxes, they come with indiviual trays and I use them exclusively for my musky hard baits, Glidebaits, Jerkbaits and topwaters and not only are they a little deeper but generally about 1/3 the price of a comparable system in the fishing tackle aisle. For comparable prices in specialty musky storage systems it is almost 1/10 the cost.
  13. ....only regret Ive ever experienced from these fines lures.... Lent some to a buddy for a trip north for musky, who lent some to his friend whilst there who never returned the 'FireTiger', you made me...... ... .... ...so the story went. The lure was replaced with a store bought facimile but, But a bait hand crafted from a friend can never be replaced, it has history and memories....unfortunate but wont happen again.
  14. Art, Chris, thanks both for the kind words. I do pop in now and then to browse whats up, sure is alot of new faces. This is one of the better threads I've seen in a while Art, many should be enlightened by the membership that actually make their own baits and the pleasant surprise of the quality by all...maybe it'll produce a whole new generation of bait makers. It isnt about money..it is a love in many forms..Anyone who's lucky enough to have a one of a kind are forunate. I know Roy makes exellent baits, and have heard nothing but great things about Joey's extreme In-Lines. As for mine, like Lew, they're all strung across the big livewell, the only use for it on my boat, and thats in winter storage, I'll post some pic's soon when I go to visit 'er for some spring cleaning..I think this thread will be around for a while, else I'll dig it up...I'll be making new in about a month or so, something completely different. ...and post them to this thread. MarcThorpe..not surprised at all, I'd be more surprised if he didnt make all his own baits, most all the decent guides and pro's do, what a collection just the same. I'll PM you about LakAir plans... Be well lads. pete
  15. Chris...As others have said...Them flies are incredible Bud..but what else would one expect from your talented self. Leechman...I've been following your lure making from the start..nice progression to witness and now..Now you've brought them to another level, As well you've got an eye for the colour too! -peter
  16. I am also an owner of Art's lures. The JAILBIRD has been an exellent bait, really enjoyed it Bud! It's great to see you are still active in making these beauts! I'll be changing the hooks up about May ready for the season to come... BTW..they both have EYES painted on...NOT OVER ...lmao -peter
  17. ..I'll have to agree with the Calcutta...Got the 401TE myself(Lefty).,amongst many others for 'llunge fishing and still enjoy every moment it is in my hand and yes, the drag is silky smooth...also have the 301. Like Weeds however, I made a trip to the past and invested in some spinning gear last season...I too forgot all about the finnese of this type of gear...Picked up the Shimano Stradic 3000 coupled with Shimano Crucial'7'MHFast, in August picked up another identical for jigging walleye out on the BOQ....love it...every combo tho has their own unique uses as they should but then SOME...you just dont want to put down.
  18. I also run a 3 bank charger with 3 deep-cycle Batts. 2 D-C for the trolling motor and one under the console which runs the sonar, gps etc... The cranking battery stands alone charged by the main motror and only handles starting, livewell, lights and stereo.
  19. cram, Stacey Ash, Friend, well known Musky Tourney Angler and Guide is the Owner/Operator of: protackle musky shop that muskygreenhorn spoke of. He lives and operates just south of Stocco Lake until he opens his new showroom/Biz in Belleville and can be reached at: www.protacklesupremeseries.com 1-888-442-7456 I've been making my own monster In-Line spinners (3/4-4oz),(5/0-10/0 hooks), for years now and have found I cant come close to his. His prices are all negotiable too which is rare...the more spent the less per item in most cases. PLEASE FOLKS-Im not spamming,.. anyone who knows me...well, they know better than that. This is just the god honest facts. He also carries a very good selection of American Musky Reels/Rods & Nets.....as well the standard available here in Onatrio. As for your q's about topwaters, what has been said is pretty close.....I love the Jackpot series (Copy made by Stacey)for most con's.....when lowlight or rough water I'll switch over to the topraiders with not much diff between the super and regular but more Colour I think as a diff. His website is worth the look...it turns heads.....Hell of a guy to boot. For any bass anglers...his bass lures are all the rage out this way ...the B.O.Q..
  20. I've caught tons of fish on these things, for me they're money in the bank. The #9 and #11 model in the purpledescent colour are lethal on walleye. If I'd known in adavance I would have grabbed what I needed when they were still readily available. They're still available at a few places online and ebay, but I suspect supplies are limited. If anyone knows of a source for the purple ones in #9 & #11 sizes in Canada drop me a line. I'll be eternally grateful. Solo, Dropped by CTC Belleville this A.M and grabbed the last 4..... .....2 are for you if you wish, I'm out in QuinteWest, we can make arrangements. They are the size #9.....MR09 PD,(MR-9 in Purpledescent) [email protected] peter
  21. Check out quintefishing.com... there is a real nice Lund Pro-V in their classified for sale. I have seen this boat and it is in immaculate condition. This Lund is a 2000 but Ive seen '07-'08's that dont look near as good....(no apparent dock rash or touch-ups) I believe it had a 4-Strk 90 Yammy w/9.9merc kicker with berts tracks and riggers...(+,+,+) Immaculate is the word and Im kicking myself, as we all do later down the road when we buy used....not like there is anything wrong with mine but this is a real nice looking boat and he was only asking $16,800. He's a Qunite regular so it will handle the waters you spoke of.. if your willing to fish Quinte as you said then you shouldnt mind driving there to take a peak if its at all still available... Take a quickee at the website...this boat is worth the lookNsee to be sure! best of luck.
  22. Mike, I wouldnt concern myself over a hat Bud.....(yer suthrn''bama bud mite hav a wrd ér2 but..) Congrats on the 15lbs... Dont which one I like better the 7 or the 8lb'r.. Mike, I dont know many bay folk using downriggers, perhaps with the bite being as light as it is maybe thats why your not hitting the double digits as often..just a thought. I realize you cant feel the bite anyway and usually just drown them dragging them along but with one less item between the rod and the big ticket maybe is all thats needed. I thought the G2G was last weekend and was out at Picton successfully then, this past weekend I did the 'Lunge thing locally. It looks like another successful bay outing for you...WTG. Your here enough,...you'll figure it out. bNb
  23. Looking forward to catching up with a few of you out there this weekend.... My buddy Mark and I will be out in black/silver Lund w/yammy dragging boards. Only problem out in the Reach this time of year is the increase of boat population and them that arent used to seeing folk with boards out...can be a real pain....aside from that the fishing is great right now. See you out there.
