The wife and I are going to Florida in mid January for the first time and she asked if I would like to go fishing for a day. OH I GUESS I COULD FIT IT IN!!!!!! We are going to be in the area around disneyland, and I was wondering if anyone has been to that area and could suggest a guide or a website to look at to give us an idea of the cost and availability of this type of service. We won't be taking any tackle so we would require the guide service to provide the equipment. Any help would be appreciated.

5th Annual Grand River Walleye Tourney Results
grt1 replied to Fishmaster's topic in General Discussion
A couple of questions for you, what kind of bait do you allow, live or artificial? What is that yellow thing with a circle in the last picture? Growing up and learning to fish on the Grand River keeps me interested in what is happening down there. Sometimes I wish I could have had a chance to fish further down the river than just the Brantford area. -
a friend emailed me with this web site, it is pretty well done and is somehow applicable to old timers like I'm getting to be. http://newsday.com:80/news/opinion/ny-walt...0,1036393.blurb

It sounds as if Gov. Palin can take a joke but the guy at the end of the interview in the background kept saying "hang up" is the one who needs to develop a sense of humour. It reminded me of the time Rick Mercer ambushed George Bush and asked how he would work with Canadian Prime Minister Jean Poutine. Bush replied that he looked forward to working with Prime Minister Poutine because he was a good leader and well respected. Too Bad our leader was Jean Cretien and poutine is french fried potatoes with gravy and cheese on top. People speculated that the reason Bush never made a trip to Canada to meet the Prime Minister for almost a year after his inauguration was because he was puncked so badly by Canadian Television

you guys are really on the ball with your comments, can't stop chuckling, I'd love to see the trailer he puts it in .

You aren't alone in having it tough, up here in Red Lake, the same thing is happening, the bite is definately off, I mark lots of fish but each day it is a struggle to get 4 or 5 to bite, usually,it's not a problem, I'm on Gullrock and like Lac Seul, it is a factory for fish, but it is REALLY slow, and Red Lake is now being referred to as the dead sea by the locals, Who knew walleyes go south like the ducks for the winter?

I just looked in my closet and found a pair of size 12 Apache desert boots (made in spain according tothe stamp inside) that are in almost mint condition, I bought them years ago and never got around to wear them more than a couple times. I see I put some insoles in them I guess that would tell me they were not as soft on the feet as the clarks were, but with todays new "gellin" products I imagine they could be. However, did you know that as you gain weight, your feet get fatter. I tried them on withl no luck, (must be the 100 pounds i've gained ) since I bought them. If you want them send me an email, I'll get them to you

If you are planning to fish for walleye on the first week of May, you are out of luck in most of northern ontario, a quick look at the regulations will show you that zones 1 to 11 (thats all I checked) have the opening of walleye on the 3rd saturday in May. Plan your trip accordingly if walleye are the preferred species

you might try www.luremaking.com This is a canadian supplier in Hepworth Ontario, they are pretty good to deal with and sell in lots of 1000 if you need that many

For quite some time now the association I'm the president of has wanted a web site to inform our constituents but it was always cost prohibitive since we are all volunteers and don't have a large bank account. I was talking about this to a friend in Thunder Bay and he pointed me in the direction of a web hosting site and when it all boiled down I could register our domain name for 2 years for about 75 dollars and get a web site hosted for 2 years for 92 dollars. This is in our budget area so I proceeded to try and get it started. Once I got the domain name registered I had to try and build the site. My friend in Thunder Bay suggested doing the FTP thing. I guess this way you have to copy then paste the files you want on your site. It seemed easy to do until I watched the demo video that was on thesite I was going to put my web site on. I was just playing with the site when the phone rang and it was the firm I had registered with, calling from Arizona asking me if I had any questions and needed any help, talk about good timing. This fellow helped me work through some of the problems I was having and suggested that maybe I should have bought into a program they have that helps create the site through the use of templates. He checked the cost of it and it worked out to be 2 dollars cheaper than what I had signed up for. So with the weather being crappy up here in Red Lake I spent most of my time playing around on this site and getting something going for the weekend. When all was said and done, I got the site up, it looks ok but doesn't have all the information on it yet but at least I broadened my knowledge of the web and web site management. If you have a cottage in the unorganized area of Northern Ontario and are unsure of the way the new Provincial Land Tax reform will affect your taxes, check out my site. it has a breakdown of what you can expect to pay in 2009 . This information was provided by the Ministry of Finance in sessions across the north. www.dokura.com

If you are going to travel up to nungessor lake, why not go another 30 Km up the road and go to Stormer Lake Lodge, it is a drive in, the only lodge on the lake, full american plan, good food, shore lunch everyday with everyone at camp (its always fun) and great fishing. I have guided at this lodge for a number of years when they need additional people to handle big corporate groups, and I eagerly look forward to this and love the lake, Actually, it's two lakes, Stormer and Kirkness and to access kirkness, you go through a creek to it. The owners are very hospitable and make you feel very welcome. It may cost more than anything on Nungessor (really don't know) but they have top notch equipment , 17 foot lund outfitters with 40 hp honda motors, each boat has a depth finder and they have guides if needed. Walleye over 20inches are common, Pike over 30 inches are common, Walleye in the 28 - 30 in range are in these lakes and pike up to 45 inches are there too. (the knack is to find them and make them bite) They have a regular return clientle and that means they must enjoy the resort, fishery and fellowship. It is definately worth a look if youre coming this far, what the heck is 30 Km. Just my opinion, have a good trip

I had read the gulp alive buckets leak and don't seal right so I started looking all around for a new container for mine. I bought a large container of cashews for the jar at costco and planned on using this but then the other day at Walmart I came across some 12 ounce thermos containers that have good screw on tops and are guaranteed to be leakproof. They cost about $5 so I gave them a try and they fit one container of gulp alive perfectly. So far they haven't leaked.

I voted to send you crappie fishing ,since we don't have them in Red Lake and I thought someone should enjoy catching them.

Ok I looked at this report twice, I am guessing the photo of the boats around the dock is the harbour, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out which one of you guys was the "honey"

that looks like a "sewer sauger" to me

I found the responses interesting because I don't fish bass (the line for bass in lakes is south of here about 75 miles) so Iwas wondering what makes it so popular for most of the guys on this site. When I was a kid growing up in Brantford, I would go to the Grand River at the end of my street and fish from the bank for hours and usually end up getting 2 or 3. I always thought that was good. However, when I moved north, I hadn't fished for years and when I got back into it everything up here was walleye. Although I was living on Lake of the woods, the emphasis was walleye, then over the course of the past 20 years the swing has gone to bass in that area. A buddy of mine owns a sporting good shop in Sioux Narrows and he told me that in the 1970s he sold 95% of his stock for walleye, now he sells that percentage of stock for bass. As to what is good fish rate per hour. I can only talk walleye, Here in the Red Lake area, a good day is usually 80 to 100 per day. last sunday the wife and I went out for 2 hours and caught over 40 walleye. Today I was out for 2 hours and had to work to get 10.

Each spring we get together at Eagle Lake and have a few beers and wet a few lines. My buddies come in from Alberta and Thunder Bay to share some great times with just the boys (ok, we're old guys, but we're young at heart) My Buddy Ron has a camp (cottage to you southern ontario guys) and we use 14 and 16 foot boats to brave the waves. This year we had a little good luck and nailed some really nice walleye, and some lake trout. here's my buddy Ron running up a creek into our lake trout hole. The fish aren't huge but they are dandy eaters You can see I'm enjoying being guided instead of having to do all the work. the previous 2 pictures were Me and Ron showing off our catch. And of course shore lunch is mandatory when it takes an hour to go up the creek to get to the trout lake. (Beans and weiners and beef stew mixed together, some fresh rye bread and a shot of rye to wash it all down. ) one of the walleye my buddy Dick caught. For a guy from the prairies he sure could catch fish. Thinking of this weekend is how I make it through the winter.

As I mentioned earlier, my wife needed a new fishfinder so I got her the 565. She likes to see the "fish" on the screen and when I got out the instructions from the box the way I understand it, with the dual beam, the "fish" she sees on the screen register like this: the solid black fish are the ones under the boat and in the 20 degree cones view, the ones that are hollow (or just fish outlines) are the ones in the larger 60 degree cone.

I was in the market this year for a finder for my wife. I looked at a lot of them and when I was lucky enough to be at Cabela's I could compare them in the simulator mode. I opted for the 565 for the same price as the other models I was looking at. Then through a quirk of fate, we were in a fleet and farm store in the same area and I bought it for $175. Cabela's and bass pro were selling it for $199. I hooked up the unit and it looks like watching a tv compared with the old model she had (it was a panorama version by humingbird) you won't be sorry with this unit.

I wish I had the skill to put together something like that , It was amazing and great to watch. good work folks.

In 2002 I bought a minnkota maxxum 74 with a universal sonar . I hooked uop a Lowrance x65 to it using and adapter cable that you had to buy separatly. This year I was changing from the x65 to an Eagle Fishmark640c and when I was in Cabelas I picked up the adapter cable for this unit. Then I went to install the unit and found the universal sonar plugs don't match. When I asked my marine dealer about it today he said that about 2 years ago MinnKota changed all their connection hardware. Evidently this was to stop after market manufacturing of items that fit minn kota. However, i went to Johnson Outdoors (who sell the Minnkota products) and to LEI EXTRAS (who make the adapter cables). Both companies referred me to each other. My marine dealer says he doesn't think there is an adapter out in the stores that will work. What I need is a plug to fit a US6 on one end and a plug to fit a US2 on the other. Has anyone seen one of these. I'm not buying a new trolling motor just to use the sonar. Any suggestions would be welcome

I stopped today at my neighbours across the lake at Bug River, He has water all around his docks but says he is afraid to put his docks in because of the amount of ice left in our bay and is worried the wind will bring it in on them. He also told me he has swung most of his first week customers to other weeks but still has two big groups coming for opening weekend because they are insisting on being here opening weekend, He is hoping the ice goes by the 20th. As for Howey Bay , it is not deep, maybe 30 feet at the deepest. The main portion of Red Lake opens about 5-7 days after Howey Bay. The planes are taking off of the Chukuni River between Red Lake and Keg Lake. It always opens first.

I thought there would be more hits and replies on this post. maybe some guys don't like commercials but at least check out the lakeside beer model that are on the site. And, just for the record, I had never heard of this beer before I saw the web page on a manitoba fishing site. I don't work for the company. I just enjoy good humour.

good morning from the great North West. Last night was the first night the temperature stayed above zero and the lake didn[t refreeze where it has melted. Gullrock, south of Red Lake, is opening around the mouth of Bug River and the ice is slowly coming off the shore. My neighbour was working on his dock yesterday told me there was still 2 feet of ice but it has mostly crystallized and is ready to go if we get some wind and rain. The biggest thing is we have to stay above zero at night. So lets hope the weather man has a little mercy on us. There is a little lake near red lake that after that opens up , our lake is usually 7 -10 days after that. Well that lake opened on Friday, so maybe spring in all it's glory is going to make an appearance after all.
