Rich - Fair enough... I don't really care so much about silvers themselves, just the hope that the water brings in a steady bite, drum, carp, suckers, silvers, pike whatever is open... Last time I fished an outflow was probably 6 years ago, and though we were targeting smallies in the US it was an insane multi species day... Old I - I've only lived down this way for about 5 years and have small kids, so I usually just hit a few good rock bass spots that I know of on the inner bay during ice out - to keep them catching fish and interested in the sport. Most of my "serious" ice-out fishing to date has been on Deer Creek reservoir 5 minutes from my doorstep, for big pre-spawn bluegill & crappie, then trout once the season opens. That being said, my wife and I are planning to move the family into Port Rowan, so I'm going to be shifting most of my fishing to the inner bay starting this summer. -

I think that taking the time to post this was very nice of you Old Ironmaker! I live near Longpoint and usually try to sneak out on the inner bay as soon as big creen is open and there's just a few iceburgs floating around. But who know's maybe I'll give Nanticoke a shot this year. I've been wanting to try fishing it ever since I fished a warm water outfloow in the USA years back for prespawn smallies. That being said I'd be targeting silver bass or other gamefish that are in season on this side of the border. -
Mike we need a "like" button on OFC so I can put a "like" button beat down on all the great responses here. Once again, we're in your corner brother and I'm looking forward to hitting the water with you when you're back to %100!

Count me in!!! lol why am I always left out of these contests? I couldn't put my name in for a chance at the reel dave and shimano were giving away last week and now I don't qualify for this either! I'll be there with Dan on Friday but will be in the office working all weekend while the rest of the gang runs the show! Looking forward to seeing some of you there - and good luck with the contest! Cheers, Ryan

Before he jumped he said something along the lines of: "I know the whole world is down there watching me right now and I wish you could all see what I'm seeing right now - Sometimes you have to go really high to realize how small you are" - I thought it was a good quote...
-
Watched it with Averie and Luke - Figured it was history being made and they should witness it. I made the mistake of telling Luke that if his suit ripped his eyes could pop out... then 3 year old Luke was walking around the house going "BLAAAHHHH MY EYES POPPED OUT - I CAN'T SEE" over and over. lol Anyways, it was pretty awesome to watch! We also caught the press conference... he made Mach 1.2 so he did break the sound barrier and he pulled the shoot himself at 5200 feet... the protocol was to pull it at 5000 ft. so he'd have time to pull a backup shoot if something went wrong... Glad we watched it!

Slammin Trout On Closing Weekend
The Urban Fisherman replied to asdve23rveavwa's topic in General Discussion
I look forward to 3 trips a year Frank - Bass Opener , Trout Opener and Trout closer! I'm glad that had the chance to spend one of those three trips out on the water with you buddy! And I'm looking forward to hitting the ice with you and Juli again this winter... That is if we get any ice! lol It was awesome to finally hit the water with Tom as well... We'd been trying to get out on the water all summer and finally made it happen... Good times out there Tom! I still can't believe how many rainbows followed your bait right to the boat! lol I should have known better and brought some follow up baits! We'll get you that rainbow and a trophy in-land brown when the season opens back up! Dan - As much as I enjoyed slamming trout all morning I really do wish I could have been down closing the cottage instead.... lol we'll get out and whoop on them green fish for bass closer! I'm headed to Sudbury as soon as I can drag the family out of bed in the morning - so have a great thanksgiving weekend everybody! Cheers, Ryan -
This article is brutal! haha Obviously this guy doesn't fish... lol 1,100 Pound Fish Snagged Here's a video... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/tWuTjNvmK10" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Cheers, Ryan

yeah that's what I used to use, but I'd use about 4 or 5 big bags of frozen corn just for the initial offering... lol Sounds good...
-
Hey guys, I'm on my late summer carp stint... I've always just used a can of sweet corn or a frozen bag of corn for chum but also usually fished spots that already hold carp so I didn't need much. Now I'm experimenting with trying to bring the fish to more accessible spots by chumming in larger quantities. Over my holidays I had the kids pick a cooler full of cows corn from the field behind our house, but it took forever to clean and prep... Where do you get your maize or whatever you use for chum? I'm ok with having to boil it but cleaning cob after cob was a pain... By the way, chumming works... I hooked a few brutes over my holiday - here's a good one below... not a great picture but it does the trick... I fished a spot that rarely ever holds fish and is MUCH easier to get to then my usual spots... it means more time with a line in the water and it's accessible for my kids as well.. Anywyas, any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ryan

Bad-Ass reels is all I have to say... I've been fortunate enough to play with them all summer long while out on Dave's boat... I liked the TE's but I'm 5'6" on a good day and love the fact that I can actually comfortably palm the Calcutta D's... plus they just look cool! haha We did this video for i-Cast which has a little info in it..... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/KMjKkYb39nA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

NF - Dave's Journey
The Urban Fisherman replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the replies guys! crappieperchhunter: It's all Dave, I'm just the guy behind the camera doing my job! And not taking charge of my health like I should... -
Hey guys! I don't often post video's on here, but I did a thread with some health tips from my friend Dr. Jamie a few weeks ago that was well received and I truly believe that what Dave has been doing lately is a real inspiration. At the end of last season he took on a challenge to eat healthy, work out and start running. Now I'm on the road with him a fair bit and because he lives such a fast paced life and works so hard I really didn't think he'd be able to find the time to do this. Well once again he proved me wrong! lol He's the busiest and hardest working dude I've ever met and I'm here to tell you if he can find the time to do it, anybody can. It really is amazing.... Anyways, check out this video we put together... I'm proud of him..... and a little jealous... Time for me to step up! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5yhC3aimjfk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Cheers, Ryan

Family Gateaway Weekend - Report
The Urban Fisherman replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
awesome report! Very jealous - Thanks for hte report! -
I hit up the lake alone early yesterday evening, meaning without the kids for the first time since bass opener. I only fished give or take 45 minutes and do I ever wish I could have stayed out longer because they were hungry! I'm sure if I kept going into the late evening I would have eventually cracked off a giant... BUT the house was calling as it's officially on the market and needs a few things checked off the to-do list. Started off picking up a half dozen or so of these little guys on deep weed flats... Then decided to hit up some more defined structure....it didn't seem to matter which kind of cover it was, as long as I was right in tight I was getting a bite! Spinnerbaits and flippin' jigs were the trick tonight.. no big giants but good fun for a short time on the water! Here's a couple of the better ones... I have a giant smile on this one because he had me wrapped right around a tree for a solid minute before I managed to drag him out.. Have a good week! Cheers, Ryan

The Fish-A-Thon has become a family tradition for us and my kids very much look forward to it each and every year. That being said, as the case with many of our amazing volunteers we don't actually fish it anymore, but have an awesome time working as a team to make sure everything goes off well and that the group has a great day! Friday night after we figured we were all ready for the big day a few of us sat around the fire and caught up with one another. It was a great time spent with good friends and family - times that I cherish most in life. We were so busy just hangin out that nobody thought to stop and take a photo. All we managed was a sneaky picture of Averie and Dan's boy Jacob passed out in the trailer together... I'd say I'm keepin' an eye on Jacob, but I'm pretty sure it's Averie that we have to worry about! lol Sunday afternoon was our time to kick back and relax as a family! We chilled out, did a little fishing, and just enjoyed some quite time at the lake. I don't know how anyone can get through life without times like this! I love every second of it - and it's less then 10 minutes down the road! little rockie.. Luke and baby Claira fell asleep early so Averie and I went out for the evening bite... they were on pretty good but after 20 minutes a lightning storm moved in so mom was texting us to get the heck off the water! lol the kiss Mom gave me crap for not washing her face... but we just wanted to catch fish... Safe from lightning in the distance I let hte kid fish from the dock for a couple more minutes And it was finally time to call it an awesome, and very successful weekend! Thanks again to everyone! It's my favorite weekend of the year! Cheers, Ryan
