We saw a huge flock like that near Port Dover last weekend too, never seen a flock that large.

Lake Nipissing is a complicated ecosystem with a number of factors contributing to the alleged crisis in the lake, the cormorants only being one. As we can see from this thread alone, there isn't even a clear consensus that there is a crisis to begin with (I am not really convinced either based on our success on the lake in the last decade). Anyway, you may be aware of this group but here is a link to the Lake Nipissing Stakeholders Association facebook page. If you do a search on the page there are links to a few good articles from a few years ago discussing the impact of the birds on the fish populations which may be of interest. These have been around for a few years. I tried them and tried every option that came with them such as the heavier weights and bigger rings and never really liked them. The concept of the Lite Bite is great but there seemed to be a lot of cut lines & lost gear and no way to tell for sure what the line got cut on, they were just gone (50# braid). I ran them for a whole season and they seemed to run okay when they worked but I never caught nearly the number of walleye on them as on the standard dipsy divers which I cannot explain either. They now occupy shelf 6-D in the room full of unused gear.

But those street checks violated the rights of the criminals to carry illegal weapons, the rights of wanted felons to run free, and the rights of drug dealers to conduct their businesses efficiently....how could our society allow that to continue????? Mine never had a wrench on it other than oil changes, a set of brakes, and regular maintenance. Fuel system & injectors had not been touched since new. Others have reported the same circumstances although some fires did occur after injector work. I find it offensive that FCA or anybody else would try to blame the end users for something as serious as this.....I guess until somebody dies, it won't ever be sorted out and they will just keep sweeping it under the rug.

No way they'll ever figure that out, the engine compartment was basically empty after the fire since all the aluminum and magnesium parts were consumed including the hood, turbo housing, rad, tranny cooler etc. It was definitely a fuel fire though, probably an injector broke or something because the entire engine compartment was covered in burning fluid when I got the hood open and the was no sign of oil anywhere and it held 15L. Thank god for replacement value insurance, they bought me a brand new, current model year truck with all the toys! It is NOT another eco-diesel however after this episode.

Can't complain about the mileage but I will be complaining about this for a while. Here's my 2015 ecodiesel on the way home from the lake last weekend. Cruising down a back road at the limit, it lost power and went up in flames in about a minute. Wasted 2 fire extinguishers but saved my boat and not much else.....130,000 easy, easy km. This is not the only one. I was lucky to save my skin and my boat. FCA is denying there's a problem but this is becoming more and more regular.....this is a fuel problem only on the ecodiesel and is not the electrical fire on the 4x2 models that was subject to a recall.

According to my son who is a resident biologist on a large commercial tilapia farm, tilapia are intolerant to cold and start to die off when the water temps drop to below 55oF. Although some could survive, it is highly unlikely they could reproduce in the temperatures found in Lake O. I suppose he should know and I can assure you that these little tidbits of relatively useless information cost me dearly so I'm going to have to go along with his answer I guess.

Found this tidbit on the Salus site. It is a letter from Transport Canada stating that since there is no standard for PFD's for infants under 20 lbs, they are not required to wear one. Salus does make one they claim to have tested successfully but TC doesn't approve them. Uh-oh.....it seems like a few members may have lost their sense of humour &/or sarcasm. I don't think there is a camera inside that nest.....maybe something a bit more hazardous. That said, nothing our government does these days is too surprising and they probably would have tried this method if they'd thought of it.

I grew up building stock car chassis where the wheelbases were intentionally different side to side, rear end housings were offset, skewed, and cambered, front caster and camber were different on each side, and wheel offsets were different on each side of the car.....that was geometry 101 until 'puters came along!

Not really....if both wheels are parallel to the frame and the same distance to the frame rails then the axle must also be centered and square. If one end of the axle is further from the ball then then the tires won't be parallel to the frame. The only way the tires could be square but the spindles unequal distances from the ball is if the axle is bent equally and in opposite directions on either end that is but this is highly unlikely....

Just tossing this out there, is one spring flipped end for end? The locating pins on the leaf springs aren't necessarily centered between the eyes so if the left is 2-1/2" forward of centre and the right is 2-1/2" behind, you'd be out 5" side to side......

There is a place right on the highway called Lake Lauzon Resort & Marine. I stayed a couple of nights in their bed and breakfast one time but they have a nice campground and cabins too. They have a ramp, docks etc but I think its more of a Lake Trout lake than walleye. http://lakelauzonresort.com/

From what I have been able to figure out, I think the answer is that the all police officers including the OPP and CO's are authorized by law to enforce these rules but each municipality has their own agreement with the OPP as to which laws & Acts they are required to enforce within their jurisdiction. There is a basic minimum service level that includes Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, etc but others such as By-law enforcment, Fish & Wildlife, Federal boating laws, Liquor License Act,etc are discretionary and the scope of service is determined by the local municipal Police Service Board. (if you really want to read more about this look up Police Services Act sections 5 & 10 but it's pretty dry reading). The extra enforcement requires special training & equipment and therefore costs extra money which may explain why you are more likely to see OPP enforcement in more remote areas since the larger centres simply don't want to pay for the extra service. I doubt that any officer would have much support from their superiors if they stuck their nose in where it didn't belong and the situation went sideways.... maybe she deserves a pass on this one(?) EDIT: I just sent an e-mail inquiry to the OPP so see if they can shed any light on this, I will post there response if I get one.
