  1. Well.. My black cloud returns ... Tuesday night my truck stalled.. had to tow it home 13kms 140 bucks WHAT A RIP! Get home no spark. So I change the distributor Wednesday after work.. started fine. After inspecting the condition of my distributor I figure that's gotta be the problem. Get home last night truck starts and runs great so I went to get gas for "Old Smokey" and the truck and it stalls again I got lucky and coasted all the way home LOL! back in the driveway no spark at all... So I go to CT and get a coil.. change it still no spark. My truck has a MSD Ignition Multi Spark Discharge unit after doing some suggested manufacture tests it appears that this is the problem This weekend is off.. I will have to wait until next weekend.
  2. Mine is aptly named "Old Smokey" due to my thirsty 89 Johnson LOL! Can't wait to put a new motor on her
  3. I don't see why that speed would be impossible with an barebones 14 footer. I have a 17' Ranger Tiller (glass hull) & a 89 Johnson 60 which gets 37 (GPS speed) with a full tank and 3 batteries and gear in a moderate chop.
  4. Great Article.. I love thier site man.. I always have a good read.
  5. My opener tactics are going to be same.. BEG... BEG ... BEG... the musky gods for a fish.. maybe make a new lure sacrafice to the gods in hopes I can see one HAHAHAH!
  6. Hey guys, great replies.. I made 3 last night.. before I read the post LOL! Probably crimped them harder than I needed to. If I break off I'll cut the other 2 and re-do them. Thanks for the pic Lew I wish I would have thought about the leaving the tag at the swivel, oh well next batch.
  7. So I'm going to try some fluorocarbon leaders for musky this year. I've got myself some Seagar 130lbs test leader material and the appropriate hardware. I've made wire ones and never had the crimp slip but I really put a lot of presure on when crimping. Do I need to do the same for fluoro or is it just a firm crimp?
  8. Man what a report! That is truely heaven on earth! Thanks for the great report
  9. Here's a link to the SlowDeath Mustad Hook. Slow Death Vid
  10. Great report, man if you had the winds we had up north you must of felt like you were on the Alantic Ocean LOL!
  11. Gotta say I always have a great time up at LakAir Kevin & Leslie are great hosts. It was a great long weekend I don't mind the rain & wind. I'm sure my wife would have preferred it be warmer. We manage to catch our limit + a couple with in the slot so I don't think we did to bad for our first spring at LakAir. I did here of a guy that was catch 3 & 5 lbs walleyes but we didn't see any big ones. We had to work for our fish and never caught more than 1 or 2 fish in a spot. One thing we did notice was that all our fish were found on the back side of rocky wind blown points in 10 to 20 feet of water and current areas. We had some new equipment this weekend so here is my take on these items. 1) Flourocarbon Line: I used 4lbs 100% Flourocarbon and Tina used 6lbs Berkley XT trilene. No difference Tina actually out fished me So no more spending $20 on a spool of line. I'm going back to XT. 2) Slow death hook method. I tried this method and didn't get a sniff while we did catch 50 -60% of our fish on worm harnesses. I'll try this method again but I think maybe it's a gimick LOL! 3) First real test of our new 80lbs 24volt Terrova. This motor is awesome we were there Saturday morning and fished until Tuesday late afternoon. In our last hour of fishing the motor would still move our boat at 2+ mph at full speed. When I pulled the boat out of the water Tuesday afternoon I still had 1/2 my battery power left. We trolled bottom bouncers, jigs, crankbaits and held our position in a current areas with the autopilot for almost 4 full days and never had to recharge our batteries. The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the noise it's not nearly as loud as my old TM but I guess I was expecting much quieter operating noise because of the "Quiet Power" advertising LOL! you can't here it at the lowest settings but from the 3 or 4th speed setting and up you can easily hear it.
  12. Great report, We were up on Nip as well.. very wet and cold LOL! I don't mind it but the wife would have preferred it a little warmer LOL!
  13. LeBarons prices are now cheaper than BPS and sometimes Cabelas atleast for the items I've purchaced. My Trolling motor bracket was cheaper than Cabela's. and BPS didn't even stock it even tho it's the prefered mount. They stock a cheaper model for more money LOL! I don't go into BPS expecting an explanation on how to use a piece of equipment or technique. I go knowing what I want and what the standard price is. (Well used to.. I'm done) My money goes to either JB Fishing Depot , LeBarons (which aren't to popular with me either because of service issues) or Cabelas. When a sales rep walks away from a 1000+ sale because he's lazy and doesn't want to look up the price and half the stock the store advertises isn't in stock well you get my drift. Let me add some people walk into a store expecting to be treated like royalty because they are spending money there. I"m not like that and am very friendly and down to earth. I wait my turn to ask for help and am very patient because I'm a service industry as well and understand dealing with customers can be trying sometimes LOL! But the attitude I've recieved at BPS and Lebarons (not for a while now tho ) was brutal.
  14. We ussusally see one everytime were up at Nip. I thought they were really rare but for the last 3-4 years we've caught one.
  15. Hey guys, What size jig would you use with the 4" minnows the body looks way to big to fish on anything less than 1/4 oz. I was gonna get a bucket the other day but they looked to big for walleye in the spring. What do ya think?
  16. Just found an interesting article. Thought I'd share Transducer Installation This is where the unit was installed when I purchaced the boat and I installed my 102c transducer in the same spot just a little lower cause the original unit would loose bottom when running. I'm thinking based on the link above. I should move it over to the right of the step in the hull. Because when running full out if I don't turn down the sensitive I get a full screen of interernce but still get a good depth reading
  17. Nice Fish! I was there on Saturday as well.. I didn't think it was that crowded.. seen it a lot worse. Fish weren't jumping in my that's for sure LOL!
  18. Cool thanks.. just wasn't sure because I was changing the position a few times with the orginal one trying to get to work good without a roaster tail thinking I had it installed wrong LOL!
  19. Yeh i have it transom mounted and the x102c is colour unit... It could be my hull as well since it's an 89 it might make more turbulance in the water than the new boats
  20. So I have to replace my transducer this week before the long weekend. So I figured this is a timely question After installing the first one as per Lowrances instructions with the line on the transducer level with the bottom of the boat. Thing is I get a small rooster tail off of the transducer when running at high speeds. Is this normal or do I have it to deep?
  21. Would take way more gas than that would burn to eat up drug profits LOL!
  22. Great Topic! I get the nice arches one my x102c. Here's a question I always here the pros say they are picking up fish at speeds like 20-25 mph. So they scan a point or hump at those speeds to eliminate water before actually fishing. I can never get anything but bottom readings from my unit at those speeds. Does anybody mark fish at 20mph + ?
  23. <insert homer groan here> bacon LOL! Your gonna love the new trolling motor, I can't comment on the 4 stroke I'm still driving old smokey LOL! But Ilove having the new Terrova it's a great motor you'll see a huge difference in battery longevity.
  24. The old motor for general purpose casting positioning for a long day would probably use 1/2 my battery power but if I try to troll with it all day "constant on" like I did Saturday I'd have to charge them up Saturday night if I planned on fishing all Sunday.
  25. Some photos from Saturday I just got from my buddy. My Fishing Partner Suzy. Suzy watching a fish. One of the fish I got Saturday.. this one had great color.
