  1. If its a external tank the gas cap usually has a valve on top that needs to be open when running the motor. Sounds like a pressure lock by your description.
  2. We are booked for Thanksgiving Weekend. I'm also gonna try to get up in July if we have the boat. Can't wait to chase musky's again
  3. Thanks guys I like how you ran the cables icefisherman. They'll never get caught on anything like that and be more protected from sheet ice late in duck season Driving home from training my dogs tonight. I saw a big rig with a few brand new Lunds on the way to a dealer. I wanna call and see if mine was dropped off hahaha! This is true pain!!! haha!
  4. That's what I was orignally thinking..then I thought I wonder if that voids the hull warranty because I have screwed something into it? I don't have the boat yet to check the warranty fine print. I need to find a dark one black or brown color plastic. It'll look better on a camo boat
  5. Nice Report, awesome fish! Looks like a lot of fun, I was shocked to see the bug jackets. We had 0 bugs this weekend at my brother-in-laws cottage. I would have gladly take'n the bugs to be able to fish thanx for sharing
  6. Thanks!. I'd really appreciate some pics.. I really don't want to drill holes if I don't have to...
  7. A few questions on these? My Ranger did not have one and it was a pain when I change to new electronics. I had a bunch of holes to fix and re-gelcoat to make the transom look good again. This time I'm gonna use one of these plates. 1) Did you just use screws or did you thru bolt it? 2) Did you use the plastic one or make one out of wood? (Sales guy at LeBarons said to use a 3/4" piece of wood and seal it instead.)
  8. Yup, I agree on the rigging, although 800-1200 is way to much in my opinion to charge for rigging.. and it's probably to late for me as my boat is coming next week sometime Lund said But if anybody is ordering now or have just ordered.. Don't let the dealers tell you they can't order it without a mercury.. that's Bull!
  9. So I got several quotes while shopping for my Alaskan. Every dealer told me the samething yes we can put a different motor on but there will be a surcharge because we can't order the boat without a Mercury. Well this is not true. I just spoke to Lund this morning and they confirmed they are more than willing to ship a boat without a motor! So it stands to reason that you will pay more for rigging etc because it's not factory rigged but I've got upcharges ranging from 800-1200 extra on top before rigging etc of the new motor. So if you've ordered, or are ordering and have been giving a rediculous upcharge like I mentioned because you don't want a Mercury. OR You settled for a Mercury because you didn't want to pay the upcharge and haven't recieved your boat yet. I suggest you call the dealer and talk to them, because they most certainly can order the boat without a motor! I'm not knocking Mercs LOL!.. I just don't like being soaked because I prefer to choose a different motor. Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share the info I have gathered since ordering my Lund.
  10. Those are a great idea, to protect your boat.. I think I will order a pair thanks for sharing Lew!
  11. Wow that boat is in great shape!..She looks brand new.. Congrats on an awesome find!
  12. Wow! awesome post!!! Thoae are some world class brooks. Thnx for sharing
  13. Nice Story, I have 2 labs 6 and 1 year old. Both are very special to me & my wife, we spend as much time with them as we can. I didn't think I would enjoy anything as much as fishing..but the dog training/competing and just spending time with them in general. It's funny how those wagging tails wipe the stress of the day away when you come home
  14. Yeh they have them available, but it is a 60 which is pushed to 70. From what I read it's the same lower unit etc.. I've also read some reviews about slower hole shot etc with the 70 probably do to the smaller lower unit. The 75 is a detuned 90, I think it would have a longer lifespan because it shouldn't be working as hard. I could be wrong ..i'm just a backyard mechanic LOL!
  15. I think i'm gonna wait for the yamaha.. Dealer is going hate me.. as they just re-worked the whole order for the opti LOL!... but hey..I'm not the one that took a month to find out the motor was delayed.
  16. Just got a call directly from Yamaha. They are saying mid - june, now I don't know what to do
  17. Just saw this thread, NICE JOB!!.. She looks brand new
  18. Well, Spoke to the dealer yesterday. Looks like I should have the boat early June now instead of mid May. If they stick to this timeline that won't be to bad I guess. I'm still not sure I'm happy with the price with an opti it's only about $200 less than the yamaha. I was expecting to see a larger price difference between the yamaha and mercury optimax but I have no way of confirming that. This could be the cost of the Big Tiller handle. In my mind Mercury is soaking customers for the cost of the power steering and variable troll control options. If you want the power steering option it's an extra $3,000 OUCH! Dealer is telling me to have the variable troll control I have to have the Smart Gauge package which is like $1000 extra. For that price I'll use drift socks, it's to bad because that comes by default with the yamaha. I think I will talk with them more about the price when the boat comes in. So here's the final product list -1800 Lund Alaskan Tiller -75 HP Mercury Optimax -Big Tiller Handle -Wetlands Camo Package -Extra matching Seat -Extra matching seat base -Cockpit cover -Shorelander trailer -Load guides -Spare Tire
  19. Yeh, I was surprised to hear how common they are there. These are a European strain of graylings. I also was surpised at the fight and their lifespan only 4-5 years. I am glad we only booked the 1 day as the following 3 days were much worse for rain PHEW!
  20. So we just returned from a week in England. I could not pass up the chance to fish The River Test in England which is arguably the most famous fly fishing river in the world. What a cool experience. First was a 1/2 hour walk through London to the Waterloo Train Station. I met my guide in Basingstoke about 1 hour later 9am. We then drove about 1/2 hour or so where we would walk into our beat which was reserved for just us for the day. Our walk in started here. We had to cut through what used to be commoners land where employees of the king were allowed to raise a few cows & sheep for food. VERY COOL! We had less than desirable weather with rain and 35Km per hour winds. Apparently, the preferred method is to work upstream fishing specific fish you have already spotted. So when the wind blows this is very tough. We did have some luck on my very first cast I got a fantastic hit on a Adams by a grayling (My first ever ) We caught several similar graylings throughout the day, man I was surprised how good of a fight they put up. Finally, close to the end of the day. We managed to spot a few browns that were actually feeding. We did see 2 earlier in the day but they would not move for anything. England had rain everyday for 2 weeks before I got there, I could not believe how clear the water was. Chalk Streams don't mud up like free stone rivers because of the type of ground they run over PHEW! In one of the pics you can see the bottom of the stream. I was hoping for some bigger fish but the weather slow the hatch and made seeing the fish almost impossible. Never mind even laying down a nice presentation for them to take. I've not fly fished for many many years and did practice some before at home.. Good thing I did because it was very hard to cast. The pictures are infront of a slow moving section of our beat. You can see the waves the wind was creating OUCH! It was so cool to stalk these fish, present the fly and watch them come up and take the dry fly. They didn't charge it they just raised up and took the fly very gentle. It was very hard not to set the hook to soon LOL! Brown #1 Brown #2
  21. I agree this has nothing to do with Lund and really the only issue I have with the dealer is they took so long to figure it out. I found out in 3 hours, I'm sure they will make it right I spoke with them last night and they are to call me sometime today. As for waiting, I think we are just gonna go with the merc.. as I have had 1 dealer say 3-4 months and another say they can't get a date yet and finally one which is a 5 star yamaha dealer say that yamaha told them they can't source one from another dealer or even give a date and ussually they will tell them they are on the ship coming over or they haven't left japan yet etc. So I will cross my fingers and hope that the Opti is reliable :S If the dealer is willing to loan a used motor or allow me to use the motor that come default on the boat until the yamaha comes in then I might do that, I forgot to ask that yesterday.I will see what they think of that idea. I'll keep everyone posted.
  22. Yeh, good point I didn't think of that either until the other shop I was talking to mentioned it. I will say this.. It was swayed towards the yamaha and I don't feel this is yamaha's fault I feel it's the shop that sold me on it for not being on the ball for whatever reason.
  23. Thanks everybody for the input Well.. I spoke to a few dealers one called yamaha for me and they could not tell him when they could get one for him. The dealer said that he can ussually find out if the motors are on a ship coming from japan but yamaha has no idea what the status is so I guess we'll be hanging another motor on the back. So my issue now is not getting motor but my current dealer took a month to do this.. burning all of my other options for rebates etc .... I'm going to call them and see if they will do anything to make this right. It's clear that they just recently tried to order the yamaha instead of doing it right away. I say this because this other dealer found out for me in under 3 hours that they were severly delayed. Next question is does anybody have a customer service number for LUND?... I want to see about switch the order to another dealer if they don't take care of me. 75HP is max rating for the tiller in my boat
  24. So I ordered a new Lund 1800 Alaskan with a 75 hp yamaha tiller late March. I just got a call from them saying the motor is going to take 2+ months to get. This would stretch my delivery time-frame to 4 months. Am I being un-reasonable thinking this is rediculous that it took a month to find this out and that I have to wait 4 months for a new boat / motor combo?
  25. Well since I just ordered a new Lund Alaskan this week, I'll throw in my 2 cents. I struggled with the decision I was bouncing between a 20' Polarcraft Outlander and a 18' Lund Alaskan. The outlander is actually a really good deal. You can get into a 20' Outlander with a 90 yammie for the same price as the 18' Alaskan with a 75 yammie. I would have jumped at it but I felt it was to much boat for my needs. I need a boat I can hunt & fish with I did pay the lund premium but the Alaskan was a much better match for my application. I looked at all manufactures of aluminum boats for 1.5 yrs and tried to pick the one with the most check marks on my list. All major manufactures make good boats and all make lemons at some point! Decide on a price and make a list of features you want and go through each manufacture, check the items in your list off. And pick the one that matches the best. PS. I loved that new princecraft tiller if it only came in camo!
