  1. Has anybody figured out how to run wires to the bow mount trolling motor on a Lund 18' Alaskan? I looked quickly last night and they didn't install any wiring tubes running to the bow.. HOW CHEAP!!! I'm wondering if anybody was able to use a wire fish to pull wire to the bow on this boat? I'm hoping I don't have to run plastic conduit from the battery boxes to the bow, that will look crappy on a new boat
  2. Congradulations!!!!. It sucks to be un-employeed.. Hope they treat you well
  3. You will find answers for both sides. I use one and here is why. I tend to think when the boat is in the water it has some shock protection because the boat is in the water. It's not strapped down tight to a trailer with no give. BUT.... my main reason is from first hand experience. Here's my story. Second trip with my 1989 Ranger Fisherman Tiller some goof rear ends me on a nice sunny dry summer afternoon. He hit me so hard he pushed a full size old caprise (it was a midterm tow vehicle until I got a truck LOL!) and my boat half way thru an intersection. I was stopped at a red light with my foot on the brake. Oh it was full size Chevy Pickup that rear ended me. The prop, skeg and transom saver took the entire shock. I lost 2 blades off the prop, 4 inches off my skeg and folded my transom saver. I didn't even have a pressure crack on my transome NO DAMAGE! I had the boat transom inspected to make sure. I used this boat for 6 more years before selling. When I sold this boat transom was still perfect. I don't think I would have been so luck if the transom saver wasn't there to divert the shock down and on to the trailer.
  4. From what I understand the Lund Pro-Trak cover is both a travel & mooring cover.
  5. Speedtroll..you hunt? Well..you will have to come my way for some birds this fall As for the name.. one of my buddies suggested "The Miss-A-Lot" HAHAHA!!!!
  6. Just saw this post while looking for info on how tight to stretch my lund protrak cover. I know it's an old post but... Do you just snug the poles up until they are snug or do you push them up enough that you kind of have to pull down a bit on the cover to attach the snaps? Lund doesn't speak about cover tention in the manual
  7. Nice!! congrats! yes we're are the pics
  8. Thank you I still would prefer to change after the first 2 hours but if the manual says it doesn't need it I guess it doesn't need it. Just though it would be good if there is any metal in the oil from everything seating it would be good to get rid of it.
  9. Thanks Guys Tomorrowa the day. I'm so not sleeping tonight lol!
  10. I read on Yamaha's site the following instructions (10 hours total break-in) -First hour 2000rpm -Second hour 3000rpm -Last 8 hours full rpm for not longer than 5 minutes at a time So should I be running a constant 2000,3000 rpm respectively or slowly speed up to each level and run there for a few minutes then idle down to 1000,1500 etc? Once I can run at full rpm should I be gradually reaching max rpm and holding it for 5 minutes or should I be hammering it? I plan to change oil & filter after the first 2 hours, then again when break in is complete. I'm fairly handy with repairs I've just never owned any new outboards and my little car didnt require a break in.
  11. I wouldn't think this is a dealer issue but more of a Manufacture issue. They want the dealers to be front facing but refuse to actually be held to a shipping date..which is crazy! A manufacture knows the following and should be able to say atleast when the boat will be built and in the yard. 1) Materials/parts required to build the boat. If they don't they should say it's on back order. 2) How long (man hours) each model takes to build. 3) Where in the schedule (build queue) your boat is. These 3 facts should allow the manufacture to be held to a fairly firm date of completion with good planning. For the record I did not feel my dealer was responsible for the delay, my only frustration was it took them a month to find out about my motor delay. After speaking to Lund & yamaha personally, I'm not even sure they are responsible for the delay in notifing of the delay either.
  12. Nice rig man!! Don't what you'll name it but it's sharp look'n.. I'm think about the same electonics package. Post some screen shots when you get it all tweaked Congrats man!
  13. Anybody know why Lund paints a black square on the transom where the motor is mounted?
  14. Congradulations!! it sure is nice to know a good mechanic Hope she last a long time for ya!
  15. Yup max HP 75 Those names are funny! 75 hp is same as 90 hp but what I read ECU has a different part number.. and really what's the performance improvement with 15hp.. I think it would be very minimal. Oh and from my understand it's not in the exhaust it's in the intake which changes fuel/air mixture.. DANGER! with out ECU change
  16. Well here is my take, since I just dealt with the same thing.. Turns out my rig was only 2 weeks late. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the lack of commitment to give a solid answer. I'd be ok with the delay if you said it will be at the boarder on June 30th... 1) Boat time frame is out of thier control but they should make a good effort to keep you up to date on it's progress. I called both boat & motor manufactures myself because I wasn't happy with the vague answers... This was the answers I got. Lund: We don't give dates anymore because customers hold us to them. My Reply: Well no kidding 20,000+ boat you better be able to tell a customer when the boat will be done by. You know if you have material, how long a build takes, where in the list the boat is...So give me a date. Lund: (on hold) comes back with May 24th it will be in the yard and could be a week or 2 until we have a full trailer to ship. I couldn't believe the first answer! And the boat turn up a 2 weeks early than they said ..talk about CYA!!! LOL! I call yamaha middle of May then again last friday. Yamaha: Let me look into it for and call you back. When yamaha called me back they couldn't give me a actual date but said middle of June motors were still in Japan (may not even be built yet) When I went yesterday to inspect the boat the build date on my motor was 04/12.
  17. Yup I'm a duck hunter I actually think it would be cool to put a 2" powered jack plate not for speed but for raising the motor up when the water gets shallower. I've read a few message boards that say jack plates void your warranty. I have to look into this. Turns out they didn't install my extra seat base..it wasn't ordered ARGH! so I will install the base myself when it comes in. Apperantly, the drivers seat doesn't come installed from the factory for tillers, that's the one they installed. Would have been nice if they waited for the customer to specify where I liked it but..it's not in a terrible spot so not a real big deal. Cant' wait to get her broken in..that's my next post LOL!
  18. These pics are from my phone, they don't really do her justice.. Now I just need to come up with a good name. The old ranger & johnson 60hp was aptly named "Old Smokey" hehe! Can't wait to pick her up on Saturday gonna be a long 2 days LOL! Need to install my new Terrova, batteries, onboard charge and depth finder and find a used Avery Quick Set Blind for the fall
  19. I think that boat would fly with a 115 Opti.. I think atleast whole shot would be noticably better with a 2 stroke. Depends what your look'n for I guess.. Make sure you still get the 5 year warranty since they are now offering Opti after the offer date ended.
  20. MY BOAT IS IN! YEHAAAA!! All rigged and ready to go. Only concern is where they mounted my extra seat. I specified they wait until I say where I want it. Salesman just told me they already mounted it. He said he doesn't know why because it's right on the bill to wait for me. Hopefully they mounted it close to where I want it or i'm gonna have patched holes in my boat floor I will post pics when I get her home SOOO EXCITED LOL!
  21. Awesome rig man! I looked at polar kraft 20' Outlander.. they look like a very well built boat. To be totally honest the only reason I didn't get one is the size.. I felt it was to big to handle by myself in a wind when duck hunting. Your gonna love it..
  22. How are the BPS reels for quality.. I never really even concidered them? I'm looking for aluminum frame, good drag & bearings and a flipping switch.
  23. Awesome!!! Thank you! Anybody every have warrenty issues after mounting transducers properly like mentioned above?
  24. Hey Lew that might be a plan!! I'll check the retriever field trial schedule and let ya know
  25. On the weekend I picked up 2 St.Croix Eyecon Bounce & Troll Rods to replace my old Shimano Beastmaster casting outfit and the wife's old quantum rig. The wife loves to fish as well, so I always have to buy 2 of everything lol! Anyways, I'm looking for 2 good casting reels with flipping switches 1 left hand 1 right hand. I've kinda of settled on the Quantum Accurist PT from reviews I've read, but I can't find them anywhere. Anybody know of a store who has the in stock for a decent price?
