  1. Those are some beauties Lew and great stories to go with them, now I gotta go write down those tips
  2. Great report. I love the whole idea of exploring unknown places for fish. Glad to see you made it there and back
  3. Great stuff Dano. Love the pics.
  4. Thats two reports today of guys in boats not paying attention and messing with lines. Glad to see you managed to pull through with a nice fish and a couple shakers for the dinner table.
  5. Congrats. That grin on your face says it all.
  6. Wonderful shots Dan. I remember my first time seeing the lion and wondering what the hell people were smoking when the named it until someone told me about the head falling off.
  7. Beauty fish guys. You seriously nailed them today. So would you mind posting the GPS co-ordinates as well Hehe just kidding, congrats on a great day
  8. It's berkely and yeah, about $20 for 125 yards. Here's the Cabelas Link
  9. Wow, thats one impressive fish.
  10. Hmm well I can't quite compete but I've gotta a couple that are close: Hungry 'eye: <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/65/175888436_d1d5401cdd.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Fishing 2006 084" /></a> Giant pumpkinseed: <a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/61/214443118_28320ad6ce.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="IMG_0272" /></a>
  11. Congrats
  12. If you mean 8-12lb diameter line vs actual strength then I'll recommend 20lb powerpro. I've been using it on my spinning reels all year and have been very impressed with it (except for the constantly fading colour I suppose - I'm using the moss green). It casts nicely pretty much every time off my Shimano Sahara 2500 and has never broken and doesn't seem to have any/much memory. The 20lb is 6lb diameter so I guess you could go up to the 30 or 40 if you wanted but I haven't tried those diameters so won't speak for or against them. I've also used 8lb fireline crystal on my jigging/rigging setups with success but haven't really used it for casting so can't speak to that aspect of it. I'm sure the experts will jump in as well, great question.
  13. Thanks for the details joco - I looked up the model from one of the pics (where I could see it) and realized it was a tandem that you modified. Nice idea, certainly gives you lots of room. I've always enjoyed the yak reports on this board and look forward to more of yours (I'd buy one but I'm waiting to figure out my next house move before purchasing a canoe/yak/boat).
  14. Great first report. Always love seeing the kids excited about fishing
  15. How the heck did beekeeper end up on my list (number 10)? Then again I could think of worse things I suppose Thanks for the link Cliff.
  16. Great report and some wonderful pics, I've never been up there but it sure sounds like a great park especially with those walk in spots. Can't offer much advise on the bigger smallies but at least they're checked off the list . I guess if you had a finder you might have been able to find some rocky humps under water but other than that its rocky shorelines in the wind and points jutting out into the lake (at least thats all I was ever told). Oh and don't forget the usually foolproof method - ask the locals (park attendants/other campers) where they are .
  17. Damn, Those are some sweet setups Joco. You've got everything on yours by the looks of it.
  18. Thanks Dan I'll be taking you up on that offer for sure. I've actually been in touch with a couple friends up there just to poke around and see what the job market might hold but I'm not holding my breath. Next summer I think I'll have to take up air canada on the $999 all you can fly in ontario package, 4 trips and its paid for itself. Oh and Cliff about the dinner - here's the annoying part. I go fishing Friday and Sunday to bring home some fresh fish so we can have a little dinner for the visiting out of town family (of which, by the way, I count as one) and what does my dad do? Yeah he throws the dinner the evening AFTER I came back to Toronto. Old bugger can catch his own fish next time
  19. What a great report Patrick. Those are some impressive fish and yeah, I can just imagine what a 15 minutes fight with a 26lb salmon would be like - should have packed some ice for the arms. And even better its with family who are new to it all so you get to share their excitement. Perfect day in my books.
  20. Hey Dan, its Sean by the way . On Friday there was quite a few people at the launch and when we arrived Sunday there were 7 or 8 trailers but when we got back at 10:30 we were the only people there other than the poor guy that got hit (who was waiting for the cops). Also all the lights were off (I'm sure there were lights on Friday) so that might have had something to do with the guys truck getting hit (not that westfort isn't the nicest area of town hehe). And yeah, I'm not lucky - Dan is lucky to live there, I just get to visit a few times a year, next time up I'm gonna have to get some trout spots off you though, would be nice to mix it up a bit (I've never fished the Nipigon area for example).
  21. Great stuff. This community never fails to impress me. Of course now I'm waiting for the report where one of you 'accidentally' tips the other one into the water after getting out fished a bit too much
  22. Glad to see pigeon producing all kinds of fish, thanks for the great report.
  23. Great stuff Jen. Sounds like a pretty exciting weekend.
  24. I'm very sorry to hear of your fathers passing John, all my condolences to you and your family Sean
  25. Now thats is what fishing is all about right there! Damn I needed that laugh.
