I had posted a photo of one caught in the Sturgeon River last fall... I cannot seem to find the thread.. One of my buddies caught it at the foot of the dam..If I remember correctly it was around about 10lbs. I'll keep looking.. Randy.

2 or 4 stroke Evinrude Mercury Yamaha or Johnson
Muskieman replied to jr7roo's topic in General Discussion
25 or 30 E-Tec till s/s electric.. would be fantastic on that rig... If you can find one ... I'm on a waiting list .. looks like that by the end of august I'll be able to get one. -
It works period. I sell at least 4 cans of the stuff every day... Better than anything else by far..Garages buy it by the case.. I had it on sale for 8.99$ just went back up to 11.49$ People walk in and that's all they want. Not only to they make the auto & marine stuff they also have a spray form and a tranny additive .. SF16...is the "SEAFOAM" that everybody wants..does every thing... fuel stabilizer ..anti-gel..carb clean.. crank case clean..exhaust system clean "O2 sensors"..valve medic..ect...our Kleen Flo and GUNK sales reps really don't like the stuff. DC14..."DEEP CREEP" is a spray version of the SF16 but with a little more TT16 "TRANS TUNE" will stop shudders and hard shifting. I'm sold on the stuff and use it in ALL my engines including diesel ..I add it to my crankcase 1000K's before an oil change.... I sell it to myself that's how much I'm sold on it. Randy.

Sorry dude, I hadn't read the following post ... you were dealing with G Bay gin clean waters.... . ... your circumstances are different. I've seen a few anglers that use planer boards in a different way... set it up off of a modified downrigger with a quick release so when " the fight is on" you're not bothered with the weight of the board . A Muskie angler deserves respect most usually know what they are doing, and I apologize.. I don't want an Internet fight either. RFS

I agree with Roy... For what it's worth it's my opinion too. There should be no need for planer boards while fishing Muskie. Most strikes happen close to the boat anyway... My line is out ..maximum 1 full cast behind the boat or preferably closer. For what it's worth this is my opinion. RFS

Prop update.... Less Bottom End torque..a little slower to plane..I'd have a hard time pulling up a skier MUCH more middle range ... and just under 2 MPH faster on top speed..

Here goes.. On my 1998, 30hp Evinrude Tiller Short Shaft... Mounted on a 2002 Tracker SGV14T I have a 11* 10 1/4" prop that pushes me to 31.5 mph on GPS single and 27.6 with a buddy.. I have no problems getting to plane single or double. I was in need of a new one and a buddy gave me his.. It fits like a glove it's off of a 1998 25hp Johnny. It is a 13* 10" ... how will this affect my performance??? Slower to plane and a faster top end or faster to plane and a slower top end? An inquiring mind needs to know.. THANKS A MILLION!!! RFS

Bang On! there is also Leisure Island that rent Sea Turtles...an inferior boat than the Three Buoys... but still a load of fun.. If ya have a 14 footer to tow behind it's just great! RFS

Trap them yourself.... very very very easy... I save myself money and time by trapping them. I'm very cheap. Google it you'll see... maybe even youtube., RFS here ya go

Congrats on the beauty Muskie!! ... It was great to meet Bly and unfortunately I missed you Cliff..for sure next time 'round.. Randy

Question is ---Does Off or some form of repellant keep these carnavours away? Deep Woods OFF and Muskol work fine...they keep the flies off but helps the sun to burn the feet...

I have to disagree... there are Lakers in Nipissing.... a few are caught every year in commercial nets or through the ice... my father-in-law caught a 7 lb'er off of Frank's Point at the mouth of the French in July of 2006. While I was a guide at Chaudiere Lodge on the Upper in 1995...one of our guests caught one off the dock and knocked it out with a rock it weighed about 4lbs.. and so did the rock. The MNR assumes that they come up from Georgian Bay into the lower French River and on up into the upper french and into Nipissing. REALLY NOT A SUSTAINABLE FISHERY.... Same as there are Atlantic Salmon in Nipissing but don't expect to catch one.. Randy From Sturgeon

I fish Temagami all the time...lakers are very easy ...with or with out a downrigger. Steel line with a counter reel ..usually 60 feet or so down = 300 ft of steel. I always use a red and white "canoe" or "#60 Williams" I switch the triple hook for a single and attach a white twister tail . Ferguson Bay is really good in August... you may also find the 70' sand flats and use a 1oz jig dragged on bottom with a 6" white tail tipped with a large shiner. the average laker is larger this way. READ THE RULES ABOUT BAIT ON TEMAGAMI.. they are strictly enforced. If you have a canoe at your disposal... there are tons of little lakes in the area than can easily be accessed by car and have good fishing. Randy From Sturgeon.

COOL Thanks for the info..... But doesn't the water temps slow down growth?.... It does in my aquarium...or maybe it stunts the growth? again thanks for the "rings" info. RFS

I have a few smallies mounted on my wall the 23" comes From Gull Lake in the Temagami area.... the taxidermist told me that is was 22 yrs old or so due to the cold water and clarity .. I have a 22" from Lake Nipissing done by the same taxidermist.. he told me that that smallie was no older than 10 yrs..warmer and darker water I asked how he could tell?? Kinda like the growth rings on a tree... apparently you can count the growth rings on their scales. Randy from Sturgeon

She wasn't afraid of me whatsoever.

I actually use a large shiner or sucker minnow... no hooks just a thin snare .. something like you'd use for rabbits. I use a magic marker to paint them black..when you set the "hook" snare ... it tightens down between the teeth of their bony beak and voila you've just lasooed a Gar.. Fairly easy. RFS

Jim C ..... you couldn't have come closer to the nail's head on that one ......BANG ON!!! Eloquent and perfectly versed............ Couldn't have said it any better myself....being from the area I applaud your statement! Randy From Sturgeon Falls

During the spring opener ..I came back to dock and tied up. I proceeded to get my truck and trailer into the water. I got out of the truck and jumped into the boat .. flooring it up the launch and onto my trailer.. FRIGGIN PERFECT!!!!! As proud as I was for completing that feat in under a minute... some guy in a orange rainsuit obviously wasn't!! I had stolen his boat!!!! The Look On his face !! what the hell!! He had just parked his truck and was walking to his boat...until he seen it come up the ramp... After a screaming fit I explained that my boat was right behind his .... I had the TRACKER w/20 Merc... he had a Polarcraft w/20 Merc they looked the same from the dock and in a RUSH.. I kindly returned his boat to the water and retrieved mine .. We both had a good laugh along with the rest of the spectators. RFS
