First of all Radnine...Good luck with your surgery! Rest easy because it will be over and done with before you know it. I went to Shouldice in May 2007 on several people's recommendations. They told me I had a Indirect inguinal hernia. Check out there little animated picture of its progression. I felt like I had a sausage in my sack. Now they don't take appointments, its first come first serve.I filled out the sheet they gave me and sat there for 4 hours...guess I picked a busy day. My cottage neighbor in Bobcaygeon who has the same hernia as you wasted a whole day down there. 14 hours from the time he left Bobcaygeon until he got home that night. And this is just for the consult. Anyway I waited 4 hours for the guy to look at me for 3 minutes and tell me to leave and come back when I had lost 30LBS. The thing is I had just lost 97LBS !!!! I was in the best shape I had been in for over 25 years and they wanted me to lose 30LBS more? I had gave myself...in my mind anyway...the hernia by going to the gym and working too hard at losing the weight. But now I was not going to the gym because of the hernia, so I was not losing anymore weight. I stewed for a whole year and because I still was inactive actually gained back some weight. In May 2008 I said I have to go to plan B. Went to a local surgeon in Oshawa recommended by my family doctor. A 10 minute consult with no damn wait because I had an appointment. Had laproscopic surgery done on Sept 5. I have 3 scars. The biggest one is 1 inch long. Shouldice will leave you with a nice 4-7 inch gash. Which do you think will heal better/faster? I was 80% back to normal in 3 days and after a week...though I was still taking it easy...I felt I was 100%. Laproscopic in my mind is the only way to go, and Shouldice does not embrace this type of surgery. As a matter of fact I do not think they will do it at all...too old school. Also I have a co-worker who had his hernia done at Shouldice. They did the pure tissue surgery on him. He has had nothing but discomfort since. Apparently according to him some of his nerve endings have got tangled up in his muscle tissue...neither of us are doctors so please don't jump on me for this discription...but he says because of this he gets little aches and painful twinges quite frequently. Now I'm not trying to scare anyone away from Shouldice, because I know of way more people who have had results that they are very happy with from there experience there. I am just trying to point out that in today's world of modern surgery you can get outstanding results from a local surgeon if you do a little homework. Shouldice has an outstanding reputation. I'm just not sure it truly is any better then dealing with a good local doctor/surgeon. And if you are a little heavy they will not touch you, where as a local surgeon will. If you have any questions Radnine just PM me. I will be happy to help if I can.

Boots...need some advice

Just got back from Bass pro. Ended up getting "Rocky Sport Utility Max". Same as what Burtess recommended. $139.99...was leaning towards some Irish Setters but being the stingy bugger I am, just could not justify the extra $80-100 bucks. Thx all for offering your opinions. It gave me several different things to consider. Regards, Steve -

Thx Dano I have looked at similar... but I am a little concerned about the possibility of the zippers icing over and being a beeatch to take off. Anybody out there have any experience with the zipper ones? -

I owned a pair of those Lew and I couldn't wear them. Too tight around my calves. I wear a size 10 and I even went to a size twelve hoping that the bigger size would do the job. Just made matters worse. They where still too tight around the calves and they where flopping around like clown flippers from being too big. -

Rocky's you say. Is that the name brand? The boots I have been looking at so far are between $200-250...your $79 sounds much better. -
I am due for a new pair of boots. I do not hunt, but I am looking for something WARM and WATERPROOF. Something I can wear for cold spring and fall fishing and even the odd last ice warmer days, when you sometimes have 6 inches of water on top of the ice to wade through. I've got -100 celcius rated boots for my winter fun. I just need another pair of something that will handle the rest of my cold weather adventures. Don't really have a price range. But I don't wanna break the bank either. Any help would be appreciated.

Okuma you say. Don't own any of there products. But I have a friend who is a serious carp fisherman. He has $$$ and is not afraid to spend it on his favourite hobby. He has tried Okuma baitrunner carp reels and says they are all JUNK. That's good enough for me. Just on his word I will never own an Okuma reel. However, I have never had a problem with any of the dozen or so Diawa reels I own.

Looks like a nice portable windbreak. I gotta Fish trap pro... which is perfect for the fishing I do. So I would have no use for the windbreak...but I'm sure some folks will find them handy. Good price too IMHO.

porable ice fishing shelter
crappieperchhunter replied to livinisfishin's topic in General Discussion
I have a Fish Trap Pro which is a roomier one man flip style. Fits in my VW Golf no problem with the back seats folded down. Measure your car for space before you do anything and if you can fit a flip up portable in that is what I recommend you get. A little more money....but a far more user friendly hut. I have had both styles of portables, and would never go back to a hut that is not flip style. Whatever you decide, good luck when we get some hardwater!!! -
I get it! The couple packs of meat i gave you a few weeks ago wasnt enough lol I can take a hint Steve That's me.... subtle.... like a ball peen hammer

Looks mighty fine!!! 2 garlic cloves ...lol...I'm with Misfish. Start with a bushel of cloves and work backwards from that if you have too.

SWEET !!!! Seems you have it figured out. If you are short on freezer space...I can store some meat here for you. No charge Tony...and I will promise that MOST of it will still be there when you come to get it back Congrats again on a successful outing.

Jack(Nanook) As long as I am up Caygeon way you can count on a fishing buddy. In the big picture of things I don't really know poop...but I still like to get out. BTW I still haven't had a chance to see the new pup. Maybe once Debbe and I get back up in May. Crappie opener next April is really not that far off. I have a fishing buddy who is 88. Just think about that. Don't get out together as much as I would like, but I sure enjoy it when we do. I just pray that I will have the "urge" that long. Tightlines to all CPH!!!

fall carp from a carping newbee
crappieperchhunter replied to spinnerdoc's topic in General Discussion
Nicely done spinnerdoc !!! Carp are pretty much all I chase from the end of May until the end of September. I just plain enjoy it. Then it's fall perch and crappie mixed in with some steel and eyes until we get ice. Glad to see someone is keeping the carp honest while most of the rest of us are occupied with something else. Only those with the same addiction can appreciate your enthusiasm. Keep up the good work and thx for sharin. -

Banning cell phones & GPS in cars ??

A different angle here....would we not have the technology to have phone jamming gizmo's installed in all vehicles. Problem solved and no enforcement required. -
The neighbour behind us planted a cedar hedge years ago and always kept it nice. Well he passed away 2 years ago and no one has maintained it since. The widow is an elderly woman and I waited to see if family or whoever would take over the upkeep. Since no one has I finally decided to step up and take it on myself. Got a pair of manual hedge trimmers yesterday and tackled it. Only took about and hour and it actually looks great if I do say so myself. Since doing this however I have had a few thinks to think about. Firstly what is the proper time of year to trim a cedar hedge? I started to think I may have caused problems by doing it in the fall. Winter kill perhaps? I didn't butcher it up,trimming off mostly new green leaves, not many actual brown branches. But I just don't know when or if there even is a proper time. Secondly who is actually responsible for the upkeep of a hedge? If a neighbour planted a hedge and you didn't want it in the first place or where unable to do any upkeep ,are you still responsible for your side or the top or whatever? I like having the hedge there and I actually really enjoyed hacking away out there yesterday on a beautiful crisp fall day. I much preferred it to painting a fence. If anyone has any hedge expertise and can answer either of the points I brought up to ponder, it would be appreciated

45 years old and I have never voted, prolly never will. Why? Because I feel it is pointless. With elections happening as frequently as they do, I feel that the politicians work harder to get re-elected and not to offend anybody rather then rolling up there sleeves and doing what really needs to be done. How can you honestly expect to effect change if you get voted out in 4 years and the new party tears down your plans before they can even hope to accomplish anything? The whole system is flawed as far as I am concerned. I have always worked hard and managed to squirrel enough money away to survive whatever the government tries to put us through. If you are sitting around waiting for the government to solve all your life's woes be prepared for a whole bunch of disappointment. I have nothing against anybody who votes. It is your right and good for you for exercising it, I just choose not to. My father who always votes says " If you don't vote, then you have no right to complain". I kind of agree with that. So I just grin and bear it and then move on. -
Good job Cliff !!!! Now you just gotta get some kinda harness rigged up for Andy, so he can haul it out for you next time.
