  1. I have to agree with you on this one. The weather has just been no good for fishing there. There's still fish in there, you just have to switch things up to get them. Scugog is a different lake when it comes to catching eyes. The only lake I know of where you catch walleye in under 4 FOW consistently. I'll be giving it a shot during this mild spell, I'll do a report on my day. Sinker
  2. Now that's a cool report! Thanks! Sinker
  3. What RR said.....don't over jig the williams. Just lift it slow, keep it close to bottom, but keeping your line tight on the drop at the same time...hard to explain. Don't let your line go slack when it hits bottom....Every once in a while give it a nice lift, just so fish can see it further away. If you have sonar.....bring it and watch it closely....the whities are hard to pick up sometimes when their bellies are in the mud. Hard jigging will spook them more times than not, when they are down there. With the badboys type jigs, keep your line tight, and just kinda bounce it 1-3" off bottom.....nice and slow. Throw in a gentle lift once in a while to get attention from further away. I've caught whities on the williams just flipping it back and forth on the bottom. No real lift at all. Most times slower is better, but some days they'll slam anything. If your marking fish, slower is usually better. And don't forget set lines. If conditions are right, I catch more on set lines than I do jigging. Your rig has to be super sensitive, and be able to pick up a hit that lifts the bait off bottom. I use light line and small hooks under a slip float....as long as conditions allow it. My #1 go to lure is the williams #50 half and half hammered.....but I've also caught piles on the badboy type jigs........and the #60 williams......just keep trying everthing you have...LOL...and don't give up. Good luck out there! Sinker
  4. You got it now......
  5. Yup, what Dutch said!
  6. a small piece of pool noodle makes a great float for transducers. A slice part way thru, slide in the wire.....then a bit of duct tape and your off to the races.......just yank it out when you get that big one to the hole!! Sinker
  7. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that moose used to be used to do work like that? I could be wrong....... neat picture! Sinker
  8. I'd say go for it. Working in construction....and concrete to boot......is gonna hurt you in the long run. I got out of construction in the last few years, and it was the best thing I've done! I had my own company for a number of years, framing houses, and its not worth the backbreaking work and long hours.......... I didn't get another job to replace my company.......I went back to school......and I'm loving it. I"m poor as dirt right now, but it will pay off in the end. If all goes well, I'll end up with a career that I enjoy and I won't be busting my back to make a good buck. What type of work are you thinking about going into on your own? Sinker
  9. You don't need to fish deep in there. As a matter of fact, I've never fished deeper than 8 ft. Usually, I'm in about 4-5 ft, with lots of weeds. Find some nice green weeds and your all set. Hard to find a real edge to the weeds, its more like pockets with no weeds. That's where ya wanna be at sunrise/set. The deepest part of the lake is out from cesarea....bout 22 FOW. There is a deep hole on the west side of the lake as well.....goes to about 15 or so ft. I've never fished either spot tho......... End of the island, Goreskis, and out from West shore marina are my usual haunts......they're all about the same really........you just have to be there at the right time! Sinker
  10. You only need to fish scugog for 2 hours. The first hour of daylight and the last hour of daylight. All other times are a waste IMO. Keep it simple out there.....a jighead with a minnow is all i ever use. Keep it light and jig it slow. The important thing is to be there when the fish bite.......first and last light. When the sun hits the treetops.....start jigging. An hour after dark....header home. You might get the odd one after dark, but nothing to get excited about. During the day.......forget it.....again.....you might just get lucky, but your just wasting your time if its light out. Sinker
  11. I use WD-40 as well......just a shot here and there every once in a while. Makes a big difference too. I hate fooling with those stupid poles....... Sinker
  12. Ya think he learned anything from that? Prolly not Sinker
  13. Awesome stuff!! Thanks!
  14. There was open water SW of Goreskis on Sunday.......I'm thinking your source is checking shore ice and that's about it. Guys were fishing thru the ice in a boat there on sunday......they had a puddle about 40yds round, around them......the ice was flexing that much!! I'd say the weekend will be good to go......but for now, play it safe! Lots of springs in there, so ice thickness is different all over the place.....if you don't know the ice, be very careful and check as you go. Sinker
  15. Nice pics........the duck is a hen Oldsquaw......or long tailed duck. Sinker
  16. No, the dock isn't in........there is just enough room to launch a boat and that's pretty much it. It might have changed since I was there on Wed. mind you. There were a couple guys shore fishing there when we came back it, but there's not alot of room. Like I say, things may have changed since Wed. so you never know if you don't go. Sinker
  17. How much HP can that little boat handle? Pretty slick little boat for sure! Sinker
  18. Yup......your welcome My prop hates me, but the launch should be good and clear now Sinker
  19. The east side of the lake is pretty much wide open. There is a bit of shore ice, but no hope of standing on it for a while yet. I might launch the boat there tomorrow if simcoe is too rough...........maybe this wind will push the ice away from the shore I want to launch from...... Sinker
  20. Ya...I was there today as well. I can't launch my boat at the end of the island.....there's no way. That ice is pretty thick right there.......I couldn't get a big rock to go thru it anyways.....lol. Your van's were there when I pulled in I believe. I'm gonna hit simcoe instead. Sinker
  21. Is it possible to get a boat in at the end of the island? I have removeable trailer lights and a set of waders ready to go...... I'm heading up there shortly, I'll post my results. Sinker
  22. AMEN to that EddyK! Sinker
  23. OK then .....whatever.......a bit anal about the muskies or what? Is it just muskies your like that with, or all fish? Sinker
  24. Match your hook size to your bait size. Small minnows, small hooks, large minnnows larger hooks. You want the minnow to be able to swim freely with the hook, but also want the hook to be large enough to get some meat on the fish your after. I like to use a wide gap hook also. Sinker
  25. My PB musky this year....43".....give or take.....didn't really measure it.....my tape was only 36", so I just gave it my best guess and got her back in the water quick. Same fish I'm releasing in my avatar pic Sinker
