  1. Hey, if you want to keep your minnows alive and well on trips behind the sled, put them in a container with a good tight lid that is FILLED to the top with water. If its full, they can't slosh around, and can't spill with a good lid. The auger mount on the sled is a good idea. I've been wanting to set mine up for a long time now too. I've seen some where they used a piece of sono tube attached to the back, and the auger just sits in there beauties........also a rack from frame to frame over the hood is good too. That hut looks great BTW. I think the sled part of a portable is the most important piece! That one looks great!! Sinker
  2. How far would that be driving? Just curious........I have 14 days off coming up. Hows the whitie fishing up there Sinker
  3. NO worries. My boat is full of snow/ice most of the fall/winter. I still have it in the driveway ready to go. After a good frigid duck hunt, I sometimes have to break the ice off the hull/floor with a scraper.....lol. If it can't take a bit of ice, its not worth what ya paid for it!! Sinker
  4. The problem with opening a panfish season, is the walleyes will still get caught......and prolly kept. At the very least, they'll get harmed for no reason. I live in the kawartha's, and I think its just fine the way it is. Sinker
  5. Well, the inner snapped, but the casing caused it to wear out. The metal casing is frayed under the plastic sheath, and its tearing up the cable. Its right on the turn into the lever. I have it jimmy rigged for now, but I need a new piece of cable for sure. The whole thing would be a thing of beauty! Sinker
  6. I already have it jimmy rigged well enough to run..... It would be nice to have the real part.
  7. We have an old wide track skandic as well. I'm not sure if its a superwide or not, but its a beast also. The Alpine still packs a better trail......no question.......they're just a pig to run! I broke the throttle cable on the alpine today......any idea where to get a new one? Sinker
  8. Man would I love to drill a few holes on some of my summer spots on the kawartha's!!! Can you say fish fry Sinker
  9. Not that I know of. These ones are early/mid 80s models. They run great, but ya can't turn much Similar to riding a brick Sinker
  10. I just got in from a 2 hour ride on a twin track Alpine. I'm beat!!! They sure pack a nice ski trail though Sinker
  11. Yep, I'm jealous I'd love a fry of fresh pickeral right about now........it would go great with my bacon and eggs Sinker
  12. I hope your next report has a pic of a 12 point buck hangin from the pole!!!! Sinker
  13. I wax the poles and zippers.....then giver!
  14. My old man just waits until they fly into the bay window He's got his limit in the freezer.......who says grouse are smart?
  15. Try some salties. Easier to carry around, you can keep them in your vest forever, and they work just as good!! Your not the only one who has been using shiners for 25 yrs Sinker
  16. Yep, she's a beauty. I had to snap a quick pic on my way home from work. You realize that this means winter is really here now right? Break out the ice gear boys and girls......its time to pound some holes Sinker
  17. Very sorry to hear of your loss. Sinker
  18. You'd never get a shot at these birds here Brian.......they take off before you can even see them. I got one shot off, and no bird to show for it. The rackets sure came in handy though
  19. I dunno.....I'd break that in about 3 minutes fer sure!!! Whats wrong with a bucket anyways?? Gimmick!!! Sinker
  20. Come on up here for a visit......I was out chasin grouse today with snowshoes on!!! Friggen stuff is deeper than I thought in the woods!!! Sinker
  21. I can't think of a year when I wasn't on ice before christmas.......on simcoe!! It will happen, no worries!! Cooks bay, V beach, Port Bolster....they all get ice long before the main lake does. Sinker
  22. Hey, how do you like the Arctic Armour suit? I'm really thinking about getting one to replace my old mustang. They look great, but are they tough enough?? The PFD is better than nothing, but if your out there when you need to be wearing a PFD, you shouldn't be out there IMO. A float suit will bring you to the surface, but you still have to get out, and make it back to shelter. If there is a risk of going thru the ice, stay off it!! Sinker
  23. I watched that episode too. Not bad, but there were a few things I would have done different. I would have been eating rabbits everyday no problem.....I dunno how good of a trapper he is, but there were lots of rabbit tracks and he only got one or 2?? They've got to be the easiest thing to catch in the winter with a snare!! I also would have set up my camp, and stayed put until someone found me. It makes no sense to travel in the winter if your lost......just set up shop, and stay put. Someone will get ya after a spell Sinker
  24. I watch the show as well. I'd really like to see him over turn a boat in cold water and survive. He'd need some good camera gear, but it sure would be interesting!! Or how about a snowmobile breakdown when its actually winter and cold? Sinker
  25. Glen, check out the arctic armour suits. They look killer.....I asked santa to bring me one Sinker
