  1. It won't be long now until someone puts one thru the bog!! Count on it soon!! Sinker
  2. I don't know about right now, but you could get flounder, rock cods, sculpin, seacats.....you just never know what will be in there really. I've seen humpback whales in that harbour....LOL. Petty harbour is another decent spot for fishing from shore.....not far from St. Johns. Any pond on the island will have trout in it. Any ditch with water usually will too......your limited to trout though. Sinker
  3. Yep, mitts all the way. Make sure they're easy to get off. I like it when I can just flick them off without any issues. Sinker
  4. If your looking for a primary source of putting holes in the ice, a spud isn't the way to go. For first ice, or opening old holes, for sure, the best rig. I use one almost every trip. I'll drill my normal 8" hole, then widen the opening so it doesn't freeze as fast! A must have item on new ice, or ice you haven't been on yet. CT has them for like $20. Its easy to get one made though, that's the way I'd go. Sinker
  5. Get some worms......if you can find any!! The docks are right downtown St. Johns!! Go down george st. while your down there......they still have happy hour!! Sinker
  6. Did you get a field related job when you were done? As much as I am a fish and wildlife nut, I'm glad I didnt' take the program. I'm sure I could have walked right through it with straight A's, but with a young family, it just wasn't the right thing to do!! I went back to school to get a full time permanent job........mission accomplished! Sinker

I get most of my firearms/ammo from gagnons. They have an online gun shop on thier website. You can't go wrong with a Remington 870 combo for a shotgun set up. I wouldn't trade mine for any other shotty!! She justs keeps on going! Sinker
  8. I graduated from Fleming in a different program. I thought long and hard about taking the F&W program too, but there is just not as many jobs out there in that field. If your willing to travel around and keep doing contract work here and there, by all means.....go for it! I took the Environmental Technology program, and got a full time permanent job as soon as I graduated. ET is basically everything you need to know about water. There are lots of jobs in the environmental field, take a look sometime. The ET program has a breat job success rate, and most of the work is outdoorsy/field work. Check all your options first. I know a lot of people took the 2 yr F&W, then opted to take the one year ET program, and ended up working in an ET related field. I have lots of buds who took fish and they aren't doing any field related work at all. Fish is a great program, and you'll really enjoy it, which helps with your marks, but the jobs are hard to come by. You'd prolly end up at Trent U for more biology, or related coursed in order to get a good, permanent job. Just my thoughts, Sinker
  9. Could those be crappies? I've caught eyes with sunfish in their bellies, but never perch. Thanks for the report! Sinker
  10. I like the glow stuff too. Works great for me on eyes. Sinker
  11. Thats exactly what I was thinking! Thanks for the report! Sinker
  12. All I use is a jighead and a minnow. Good luck on your trip!!! Sinker
  13. Sweet! I'm gonna get me some of those in the next couple days!!!! I haven't eaten perch since last ice, last season!!!! Sinker
  14. The trout season doesn't open until Jan 15th.....I think.....I know for sure its not open right now. There are some fishing ops in the harbour. I'm not sure what you'd catch this time of year though......The river that runs out of Bowring park has some sea run brookies and browns in it. I know we used to catch them there in the late fall...close to the mouth. I'm not sure about now though. Giver a shot and let us know!! You really need a car to get to anywhere thats decent, but any body of water will have specks in it there. Sinker
  15. I'll be there as always
  16. Geeze.....all this bad stuff seems to be happening lately. I wish her all the best, and you guys are in our thoughs for sure. Keep is informed on what is going on, I also have 2 kids here! Sinker
  17. A couple scoops. The bottom half of a 6" handauger. An axe. A couple ice spuds. Pliers. One swedish pimple I thought I had tied on, but just threw down the hole like a dumb One of those small micro tackle boxes with all my terminal tackle/weights/swivels etc......kerplunk! I'm sure if I thought about it long enough, I could fill a page. Sinker
  18. I'm with Wayne on the police calling. They'd be the last ones to get a call from me. What are they gonna do anyways.....watch from shore?? lol Its weird how it went in with the front end up like that though huh.....never seen that before. It must have been hung up on the front bumper before it finally dropped in? I know one thing for sure, if I was out in my new 3/4 ton 4wd ford, I'd want about 15" of good ice under me!!!! Sinker
  19. No pics??
  20. The biggest problem I see with cold feet is people wearing too many socks. I wear the baffin trappers....just green rubber boots with felt liners......and ONE pair of PURE wool socks. I never get cold feet......EVER!! And what doug says is very true!!! Keep your head warm, and your extremities will be that much more comfy!!! I'm a bit old school. I swear by wool. Its gotta be pure wool, and most of my stuff is hand made. I'm kinda lucky that way I guess, I have lots of family that knit me mitts and socks and sweaters whenever I need them. Next to wool, I'll take fleece. A good wind/waterproof/breathable shell over wool or fleece, will keep you warm in the coldest weather. Layers are your friend, just don't over do them. I like Cabela's gear. Its priced reasonable, and they have great customer service as well!!! Sinker
  21. Sorry for your loss. This seems to be happening a lot lately. Sinker
  22. I'm itching too Meely!! I might go for the walk on wed or thursday this week. I'll let ya know what I see out there!! Sinker
  23. I have a 2 man eskimo quick flip. Its good if there isn't too much snow, but brutal once there is more than say 6".....to pull by hand. Behind a machine, it makes no difference. Its sets up in seconds, and is fairly portable. A 2 man hut to pull by hand is a tough question to answer. Are you planning on having 2 guys in it all the time, or you just want more room for yourself? If I was to do it all again, I'd get a fishtrap pro. Its kinda like a 1.5 man hut, but is easy to pull around with all your gear. Sinker
  24. Your story reminds me of a time we were coming home from the saugeen river. My buddy just had new tires installed on his Jimmy at Costco. We're cruising down the 400, when the passenger front wheel, took off on us. Came right off the jimmy!!!! Talk about having a heart attack!! We got lucky too, the tire didn't hit anyone else, and came to a stop in the ditch. We got a few new lug nuts and put it right back on......no more problems after we checked the rest of the wheels!!! Lucky nobody was hurt!!! Sinker
