For the sake of $10 I'd support the local guy any day. Plus, if you build a relationship with him he's more likely to look after you if you have an issue than the bigger "box" stores. That's my experience anyway....

Check out that Fish On-tario store behind the Petro Canada at the service center on the 400. I don't know if he'll have the big ones, but I'm pretty sure he does have live bait, and he seems to be open pretty crazy hours too.

Thanks for the great report! I may have to give that line a try myself! As for the line capacities on reels even having the tackle shop spool them tight for me, I don't think I've ever gotten as much line on a spool as the manufacturer says it'll hold. I don't worry about it too much.

AGREED!! That's a great way to start. Then you can start buying more of each for different lines and lures and stuff. That medium/fast spinning rod for example...have a couple of them. One rigged with a drop shot, one with a tube, one with a wacky dinger, etc. It's just nice to have a few rods rigged up and ready to go so you don't have to take the time to retie every time you want to try something else. Changing lures sucks. It's nicer to just have another rod ready to go. Trust me brother! There's no end to it!

FWIW, I have last years model Sahara and it's a fantastic reel. I'd take it over the ProQualifier any day, but that's my opinion. But, if you like the PQ reel, but not the freebie rod, just buy a new rod for it. The BPS rods on sale are a great bargain in my mind. And I also agree with BigSmallie. Close the bail by hand. It doesn't take much to get in the habit.

King Mackerel I assume? aka Kingfish? ...cause the Mackerel I've caught off PEI didn't put up a stellar battle by any means. Mind you, they weren't really big in the 18" range....but even for their size I don't recall them as being overly scrappy.
