  1. Some good fishing for an early start. I was OK with listening to Rush. Nice video.
  2. I'm not sure of the "rules" but no pics, no fish, no stories . Fantastic recap of your 2013/14 season! Thanks for taking the time.
  3. I'd get a new set and ship the old ones to Rocky's for sharpening and have a spare set on hand. I would imagine the turn around would be pretty quick on these. Might be worth a phone call and or email with the pic to get his opinion.
  4. Built 5 of them on the weekend...lol! Very cool and I'd have no idea where to start making one. Can certainly respect the craftsmanship that went into making it.
  5. Looks like you are having a great time! Don't worry about missing out on any ice fishing, we should be good till at least June if these temps keep up. Bunk is being very pessimistic with the temps at -30 in June, I'd say we'll be topped out at -20 by then. lol!
  6. Wonder how it tasted? LOL! Adapting to the surroundings and survival...nets don't stand a chance.
  7. Thermal is the way to go if you have the extra bucks to shell out. There are some tricks that guys are doing though with the non-thermal ones and having good results retaining the heat. A roll of reflective insulation can do wonders.
  8. Check out Millwork (Rona) on Simcoe south of Taunton in Oshawa. They used to carry it and reasonably priced. I haven't been there for a while but worth checking out.
  9. Nice recovery!! (After you got your foot out of your mouth,)
  10. Tightline is closed until further notice as the sign on the door said. (what I heard) Not sure who else in the area sell minnows.
  11. I'll take the winter months for now and if need be, take Rubin's spot again, not that it mattered that day.....I sucked! LOL!!
  12. Just in awe over the craftsmanship. Fantastic work Chris!
  13. X2 I'd guess a hell of a lot more than the fines that were given. Good on them for doing their jobs and catching them.
  14. Have a fantastic trip!! Safe travels for you and Sue.
  15. Welcome aboard!. I do have a passion for steel and chrome but do my fishing for them on the big lake. A little more room out there....some days. lol.
  16. Sorry to hear this Brian, tough with they are that young. My condolences.
  17. I know of a person without power for 17 days. The complaint from them was not about who is accountable, but how many of these tree removal services became crooks by jacking their prices through the roof and taking advantage of a situation. Pretty sad. They finally found a company that kept some sense about themselves and were still doing the work at a fair price. Nice to know that there are some decent people out there, certainly lots of them here. I think this ice storm was an eye opener for many. We've been told many times that we should have an emergency supply kit on hand and a plan in place if you have to evacuate. I wonder how many have this in place? I know that I could be better prepared for a grab and go situation. I think T-Bone covered it pretty well too. Look out for yourself, your family and friends. A good time for all of us to review this. http://www.emergencymanagementontario.ca/english/beprepared/makeakit/makeakit.html
  18. That does seem high Cliff. Maybe order the unit from Home Depot and hire a gas guy and an electrician to hook it up. 17000 watts is $4146 with the transfer switch. Not sure what other extras are needed but might be worth checking out as another option. Warranty and service might be a concern down the road, not sure. http://www.homedepot.ca/catalog/standby-generators/171118
  19. That's it. I'm selling the sled and buying a horse. lol. Cool video Brian. We cancelled our day on the ice today as well with the winds in the forecast.
  20. Thanks for the input everyone. I have to admit I like the convenience of the automatic unit, peace of mind for when I'm not around. A friend of mines mother has one of Generac automatic units and has never had a problem with it. Good to hear you are happy with yours Lew. Good point about getting gas if the power is out Cliff. Many stations were closed with the ice storm and certainly when we had the big blackout a few years back. Will make a few calls and get some pricing and go from there. Thanks again.
  21. Having an elder living with me and do to some health issues it would be nice to have power given any circumstance. Is anyone generator better than the next? Looking at a unit that would allow for heating in the winter, AC in the summer, lights, charge batteries for night time lighting and not having to run the generator, Things to consider would be noise and fuel consumption. Thinking portable but not ruling out an automatic gas back up system. Any personal experiences with either? Thanks for your input.
