  1. Stay calm and open the windows to let water in. With the cab full of air, you have an unequal pressure balance, making opening the door nearly impossible. As the cab fills with water, remove excess clothing (jeans, shoes, jacket), otherwise you'll just be an anchor. Take a final deep breath as the water reaches your head, and with the cab now full of water, the door should be much easier to open. Climb out and swim for shore.
  2. I'd pay close attention to shoreline character and trees present - though I'm not an ice-fisherman, I do know that coniferous trees are found mostly in sandy/rocky substrates, with deciduous trees more abundant in softer ground-types. I would then look at the shoreline for clues to lake-bottom topography - the lake bottom often mirrors what we see on the shoreline. Throw in a point and an island as Whopper said, and I'll be damned if I'm starving to death.
  3. Just wondering if anyone can tell me the weight of one Canadian nickel, and the weight of the giant nickel in Sudbury... just curious!
  4. Genre: Hip Hop and House Artist: Armand Van Helden Underrated: The Streets
  5. Chuck Norris, watch out... you have a new rival.
  6. Everyone's life is worth more than a coupla perch. A coupla walleye, however, is a different story.
  7. The new regs have been postponed. MNR has advised us to use the 2006 regs for this year as well.
  8. True, most salmon are stocked for the taking, but there must be a few natural spawners out there. I guess people know they're gonna die after the spawn, so might as well fish for 'em, no?
  9. If you know how to tie a uni-knot, you can tie a snell. Just tie the uni-knot onto the shank of the hook, instead of onto the mainline.
  10. I regret spending so much money on loads of lures that I didn't need or use. I have my confidence baits now; lures that I've learned the feel of and use most of the time. But buying a little bit of everything when you're starting out allows you to experiment and get comfortable quickly. Having said all that, I think it's a better idea to save up some money for a while (winter's a good time) and buy one or two high quality combos. Properly cared for, they'll last almost a lifetime, and give you a balanced tool to learn how the different lure styles fish. New lures come and go. Fishing fundamentals stay the same year after year.
  11. Keep us posted.
  12. Still some pike to be had downtown.
  13. No pic, but I caught a pike on Simcoe that had a permanent S-bend in it's body. Looked like it had been hit by a boat. It was starved, too. Had the length of a 5 or 6 lber, but wieghed less than 2.
  14. As do I . Sorry Snag, I'll do some gear shopping by this weekend. I'll be ready to rock this weekend and the following week.
  15. Roger, not sure if they are part of the Kissimmee Chain, but Farm 13 and Stick whats his name are reportedly the best lakes in Florida for numbers of double digit bass. Might be hard to find a guide, though.
  16. HAHAHHAHAHAHA Roy! Good meetin' ya Roy, and Keram as well. To do list: 1) Get a thread locked by Roy; 2) start making excuses for not catching fish come Lakair... Ahhhh, the flyshop; pretending to know what you're talking about builds character. Maybe I should get into politics... LOL.
  17. That's a nice little guy! Perfect eating size. What did you get him on?
  18. I still use 4, 6 and 8 lb mono on some rods, 20 - 30 lb superline on others. A time and place for everything, as mentioned above.
  19. Just curious how many of us don't fish through ice? I never have, it just doesn't interest me. I spend my winters paintballing. Anybody else?
  20. Have you tried wikipedia?
  21. 1: Baby pike on a spinnerbait. 2: Shiner on a Berkley Honeyworm while fishing for steelhead. 3: Footlong rainbow on a pinky. Wow, I should lay off the beers. XD You get the idea
  22. HAHAHHA, I like your style, SlowPoke!
  23. I don't think computers have made their way to NW Ontario yet... joking. Generally, last ice is one of the best times for crappie on any body of water during winter.
  24. Great fish!
