  2. Sounds like it would pay for itself in about 6 years. The electrical savings with a more efficient A/C in summer (especially a summer like this one) will offset a lot of the cost of running the heat pump in winter. Considering the age of your A/C (and the new regulations for refrigerant), I don't see why you wouldn't do it. Every year that goes by you're losing $600 ($800 propane savings minus $200 extra hydro) that you'll never get back. If you keep that $4000 in the bank/invested, you'd be hard pressed to get an annual return of $600 on it. If you simply replace the A/C (like for like) you'd have a difficult time finding an installed unit for under $4000 anyway. The gov't rebate makes the deal a "no brainer". I don't see a downside. ps. make sure your sales/installer does a "heat loss/heat gain analysis" of your house...includes total interior volume, amount of ceiling and wall insulation, type of basement, size and direction of windows, etc, etc. to properly size the equipment.

  3. Finally made it back in. Been an incredibly busy first half of summer.. almost 8 weeks of steady company threw wrenches into Camp plans. However.. we're starting this year with some new gear. New CRV, new aluminum trailer.. and most importantly a new Honda Rubicon. Covid had put much of our new equipment plans on hold but business is back to normal again.. actually better than ever.. so it was time to get er dun. My old 4 wheeler 2001 Rubicon was getting a little old in the tooth.. and will now be retired for farm duty here at home. I'm seeing big rides in my future as I've also staked some claims near camp and will be taking out my prospecting gear once again.. only this time at my leisure. So Monique and I headed up on Monday and thankfully this time the bugs had subsided.. two weeks ago it was near unbearable. Monday was hot so put in a tiny ac that we used to have for the tents.. worked like a charm and didn't hardly stress the genny. I took a day for a big ride down to the area I want to go over which is nicely accessible. Also got up close and personal with a big bull moose.. huge rack and completely covered in velvet, and the rest of the time was spent chilling on the dock, eating and of course trolling up and down the river a couple times a day. Fishing was fantastic.. nothing big in size but 20 to 30 pike and bass per run. All barbless and c and r. We spent a bit of time at our pickeral spot one evening and managed three eating sized ones not very big.. put about a dozen put back but we've never in 15 years landed a big one in our stretch of the river which remains a mystery to me. Brought the office with me as well and was able to spend a half hour a day keeping up with customer service. Also late last year we invested in a new fish cooker and a cast iron wok. Wings and fish are staples for us up there and I got to tell ya.. what a job that thing does.. also made myself a nice 2 in thich white pine cutting board for fish cleaning outta the bugs lol.. anyway here's some pics. Enjoy.

  5. Personally I wouldn't be so quick to believe any numbers told to me by a salesman whose main interest is to sell a product for his employer. My AC unit is close to that age and except for a $20 start capacitor back in June it's been fine for a 2500 sq.ft. home. I wouldn't ever consider getting rid of a very dependable unit unless it actually failed as for all I know I could easily get another ten years or more of use. Don't forget that they don't make appliances to last like they used to and the life expectancy of those heat pumps can be as low as 10 years. In your case every extra year of use you get from your AC unit is money you don't have to spend on a new one. Plus your furnace at 8 years old will be an HE unit so why spend more money needlessly. At the very least I would insist one him proving those numbers to you with links to sites that prove you will save that much. Plus how much extra hydro will that pump use? All this to supposedly save $50 a month in propane??? No thanks.

  6. Been some years since last fishing upon North America’s record book lake trout stage, a small group of the finest gentlemen, eight us settled into Plummer’s Arctic Circle Lodge in the Northwest Territories… Didn’t actually think I’d ever be back but hey, fish happens!! And so yeah, just another bountiful slay with hundreds of hungry lakers for all, we wouldn’t expect anything less, but the trick for me is always catching “the one,” ya know!? Anyways, this greying, red beard Viking shared a tin vessel with an ancient, melodious, white Wizard friend, our very own OFC'er Doug or "AkaSHAG" on the site here, and together we cast spells, whispered some secrets and sang fish tunes while plundering the incredible trout waters of Great Bear Lake. Enormous lake trout from world record waters. Hundreds and hundreds of fish caught and northern scenery plenty might never see, if your pulse beats for fishing, you’d be either dead or dumb not to come along on this one. 7. For those of you who were following my post "Moose Antler Rod Handle," it is now finally ready to catch some fishies. The owner wanted to give it the handle, "The MOOSE" and I was happy to make it so. Here's the final pictures I just took before it leaves the house later today. Oh and yes, the guides are indeed spiral wrapped, as requested. Thanks for looking and Happy Sunday Folks.

  8. To add as a side note, it just occurred to me that this rod going out the door marks 50 years this month since I sold my first custom built rod. I think I'll retire to the porch with a cold beer. Cheers
