  1. Hi all, The fishing has been as good as the weather here on Wabigoon Lake. I had the pleasure of guiding a father and son duo and then ga grandpa and his grandson on their birthday treat. We got tons of walleye, BIG crappie and decent pike and musky action. Good Times!

  2. There is an elastic band to be seen here on the old LG Custom CP reel pics. Don't fret over the death grip fish hold, I ate it! (also note the hat)

  3. Some of my happiest memories involve rubber bands, even if the rod of the day did have the reel seat mounted backwards. This was my second LG reel ... the original one didn't even have handles, just a knurled spool that would brutalise your hands on cold days. Handles were a major step up! Scanned 35mm slide with March 1980 stamped on it. Chris - your new rig is gorgeous. Put some wear on the bearings for me. Cheers

  4. Considering a lot of the Bass boys are dropping close to $1k on a NRX+ or a JDM rod, I don't think the river rats have a monopoly on having a fetish for expensive tubes of carbon.. "didn't look cool but a hair scrunchie around the handle worked well for travelling between drifts" Even the best clickers are no match for a cedar branch...my wife quickly learned to buy a few more hair elastics than she needed, but a clicker certainly helps when rigging up...and fighting the fish with the clicker on.. you might as well be fishing with a spinning reel...definitely uncool.. Beauty looking rig Spiel...hope the rod gets a good bend and the reel takes a good spin !

  5. Just returning from a week at Eagle Lake....yes, plenty of Walleye, but we spent most of our time chasing big toothy critters. It's a no brainer to catch a couple of dozen eater Walleye on Eagle before lunch. Interestingly, the guides at the lodge on Eagle (Temple Bay) often take guests up to Lac Seul on a day trip for Walleye. Having fished both several times now, my take is...both are great Walleye lakes (with Seul having better numbers, but Eagle a better chance at a 30" +). The opposite for Musky...Eagle is definitely a better numbers lake, with Seul although fewer fish it has some true monsters. Having said that, there still are some big snakes in Eagle...

  6. Love the contours of the cork. Reel seat position is perfect. I guess we have similar tastes in classic simplicity. Not sure I would have the cojones to actually fish that reel, having said that I'm not one for leaving it on the shelf. Well done Chris, another masterpiece pairing.

  7. You don't see it Dave but there is one there. When your give back cabochon a 1/4 turn it engages a pair of micro detent springs, not to be used however when fighting fish, just to maintain line tension when the hook is in the keeper. I have two of the original LG Custom (Stanton style) reels and they're extremely well used, now retired, they were always paired with a rubber band or hair scrunchie.

  8. It has been a very long time since I have posted anything, Life gets in the way sometimes I suppose. Last week I got out of the big smoke and up north. I absolutely had some amazing sunsets and sunrises on the water. also love camp fires and was pre planning my fishing route for early the next morning while I listened to the fire crackle. My campfire planning paid off and early morning at about 6am just before sunrise I hooked this beauty "eye" trolling a husky jerk over, under water humps. Over 3lbs and my Gf and I had a fantastic breakfast with this beauty. there is nothing like fresh caught fish!!! I had wood to split and work to do so I didn't get out that night but I did get another amazing fire going before bed. My favourite way to end the day I am fishing starting on Thursday 10 of 14 days with the weather going to be amazing. I will try to report again from, Magnetawan, Nipissing, and Marten River area.
