  2. I just received this last night. I realize this has nothing to do with fishing and I was not going to post this but I just had to as some of you I am sure can relate. As far as I am concerned there never will be a cooler generation with the fun we had and all the things we experienced. NEVER.

  4. Half the power consumption, quieter, infinite speed control and potentially a longer service life. They are also known as Electronically Commutated Motors (ECM). They use a microprocessor, as opposed to carbon brushes to phase the coils...they also use permanent magnets. In my business (HVAC), they have pretty well taken over as blower motors in forced air furnaces. In fact, the Ont gov't (IESO) used to cut you a cheque for $650 if you installed a new furnace with an ECM blower...to encourage you to use less electricity. Agree with Akrisoner, considering the Garmin Force TM (brushless) is in the $5k range, I think you're going to see a big increase in pricing from MinnKota.

  5. My old bear cash is 15 years old, at the begining of the pandemic my parents moved permanently to cashes obvious favourite place in the world, the lake. Me living in a condo at the time thought it would be best for him to spend some time up there while we were locked down down here…cash has never come “home” he’s my mom’s daily bush walk companion (gets her up every morning to make sure they both walk), bear deterrent (treed a bear last year) both of our neighbors also had bear break ins last summer, we haven’t seen a single sign of a bear on our property and all around class clown. cash loves the boat, and loves swimming with anyone who will go with him. More importantly though, cash loves when my niece comes up to visit him, he follows the kids around all day and will not leave Ashley’s side. been a few weeks since I’ve been up north but I can’t wait to go for a walk and a boat ride with him when I get up there!

  6. I've used those a lot over the years, I even have an 8oz one. Mostly the 1 and 2oz size. For those not familiar with them your line hooks underneath those clips on the far side and then up under those loops so it can slide along your line. So you had let out as much line as you want then attach the sinker and then lighty pinch your line in that ring loop to hold it in place. When you have a fish on once the sinker hits your rod tip the line pops out of the pinch and slides down to your lure, or you or preferably a buddy could remove it manually but for that period of time your rod isn't in play to fight the fish so that can be touchy. Just have to make sure your line is heavy enough that it doesn't get damaged by the pinch. They work quite well for their intended use.

  7. I'm telling you... Zoe knows where to find them...and her intentions aren't completely selfless...she loves a little leftover Walleye mixed in with her kibble.. Before Zoe, I had Winston...same breed, Vizsla, but a boy. Sadly passed at 12 years old. He was the same...a real "nose" for finding fish. I call the breed a "Fins & Feathers Pointer". Both Winston and Zoe were/are unbelievable Grouse dogs too... Nothing like "Cast & Blast" with my furry best buddy..

  8. I retired in October, and when in town have been doing deliveries for Meals on Wheels twice a week. One of my buddies turned me on to the organization. I get to meet a lot of really interesting people that often are isolated but have a lot of fascinating life experiences to share. It's something that I've really come to enjoy. It says something about our society that so many elderly people are "alone", and just need someone to chat with for a few minutes. Even though a lot of seniors have families, they're often somewhat abandoned by the children they spent their lives raising.

  9. Well first of all kudos to both of you guys for doing what you can to help others, it is a wonderful feeling. I don't "formally" volunteer anywhere but I do always try my best to help out anyone that I can. Up until last year I would shovel elderly neighbours driveways and things like that. At 77 I can't do as much of the physical stuff any more and in fact have to hire help for some things. I still do other things, help out with paper work, rides to medical appointments, fix things for neighbours, check in on the ones that live alone. As far as donations go, now that I am not working anymore I can't donate as much as I use to but I do give what I can to the legion poppy fund every year. If you do it directly to the legion you even get a tax deductible receipt. Being a veteran myself I am very aware of the good work they do. I know there are other very worthy charities but I can only do so much.

  10. Yeah I didn't like my propane smoker either at first. Its a dual burner Dyna-Glo. Liked everything about (roomy, good racking) it; but it was just to hot for my style of smoking. Even with only one burner turned on, to its lowest setting and all the vents open; I could not get the temp below 225-250 degrees. I was roasting the meats, not smoking them low and slow. I was about ready to give up on the thing; but I paid to much for it to just sit there. Then I looked at my camp cooker and its temp control was was on the regulator. So I took that adjustable regulator and put it on the smoker. I set both of the smoker's burner control knobs to high and then adjust the amount of heat I wanted with the regulator. It also now works great for prepping the smoker; as in getting the chips smoking by cranking up the heat until it gets a good roll of smoke going. Turn the reg down and by the time I get the smoker loaded with whatever I'm smoking; its at about the right temp. Make a few adjustment with either the reg or the smoker's control knobs and I now can control the heat to wherever temp I want. Dan...
